Divorce in Liasland?

Has anyone else noticed that Deanna, the eldest Coghlan daughter, changed her name back to Coghlan? Wonder what's up with that! Still got her wedding pics up though...

Ooh, good catch! She's also been looking awfully brooding lately.

ETA, she's also no longer friends with any of the Mullins family...

Maybe they are going through some problems at the moment, but I never thought that they were mature enough to be marrying (and I am glad they haven't had kids yet)-they remind me of my college aged sister and her boyfriend, but fundie.

I hope that if they do get divorced, Deanna is still allowed to live by herself and doesn't have to move back into her parents overcrowded house.

I thought this would be about Kim and Perry. Glad it isn't though, as they are already struggling financially as Perry lost his job, and with so many mouths to feed and kids to look after, I don't think one person could do it on their own-especially someone like Kim, who is a SOTDRT graduate.

Is Deanna's middle name Ruth? Doing a search on the Bexar County website of civil litigants I found a divorce case filed 7/21/14 with Kenneth T. Mullins as Petitioner and Deanna Ruth Mullins as Respondent. Is that them? Maybe that's Kenneth Tyler Mullins?

Ooh, you're good! I looked around but didn't see that...

Yes, Deanna's middle name is Ruth.

Youch. Kim and Perry have been vocal about divorce never being ok before. I know they are going all soft and liberal (insert sarcasm here) but this would be huge.

I'm going to have to look through Perry's Facebook postings to see if there are any articles justifying Christian divorce among the libertarian propaganda. The only way I could see them being at all ok about it is if Tyler committed adultery. I know Perry has been posting stuff about porn addiction and how harmful it is, maybe they're trying to spin porn watching into adultery?

I always though Deanna and Tyler "had" to get married - it was so quick and there weren't the gushing posts you'd expect about a first daughter's courtship/engagement, especially as they were still right into VF at the time.

Maybe they will justify it with him being infertile and unable to give Deanna children? That's the only thing I can think.

Her dad, Perry, worked for Vision Forum for over 10 years. Her mom, Kim, *was* a popular homeschool blogger- Life In A Shoe. She has stopped blogging. Kim is currently pregnant with baby 13 (I think).

They were hardcore VF fundies. Some of their beliefs have mellowed, based on Facebook.

Idk what happens now. They aren't as public as they use to be.

I only follow them a bit. I know she got married two years ago at age 19, but can anyone tell me about her husband? How old is he and us he very fundie? What does he do for a living?

Who knows what led to ?divorce/?separation for this young couple. I only hope that her parents have moved far enough away from fundamentalism to show compassion and dare I hope, empathy towards their daughter. Divorce is hard enough without family ranting on about God's will or sinning.

I really wouldn't say that the Coghlans have moved away from fundamentalism, just that Perry was burned badly by VF failing and is questioning some of the legalism and importance given to outward appearances. They will always be pretty fundie, and I very much doubt Kim is happy about the liberalising - she just has to follow along because so many of her beliefs are centred round the importance of patriarchy and female submission. If they are suddenly ok with Deanna divorcing it will be a huge departure from everything they have ever written or said on the topic.

As I said above, I suspect that they are either going to say Tyler committed adultery or distance themselves from Deanna, which would be sad cause she seems to still be pretty close to her parents and siblings. Kim took her out for her first legal drink on her 21st birthday a few weeks ago (the Coghlans have always been drinkers, there was a slight controversy a few years ago after Kim blogged about driving her kids after a few glasses of wine).

I'm very glad that, for whatever reasons, Deanna doesn't have children. But she also doesn't have any schooling beyond the dining room table (though the Coghlan SOTDRT seems better than many) or any job experience beyond her few months part time at Dairy Queen at the beginning of her marriage before she decided to stay home to draw in the walls.

I really don't see her having much option but to move in with her parents for a while.

I think he's about her age. He had had cancer, and there was some question as to whether the treatment had left him infertile.

Deanna said she wanted children and hoped to get pregnant soon after getting married. Didn't happen.

She worked for a while at a Dairy Queen or similar place. Then she quit to be a SAHWife. This consisted of her drawing on the walls of her and her husband's rented apartment with a Sharpie, watching TV (she was a Doctor Who fan, as I recall) and reading.

I remember last year it was reported that she'd been away from her husband for a while on a trip to visit some family, including over their first anniversary, which she never mentioned (surprising in fundieland).

Will be interesting to see how her parents spin it.

The Coghlan will just blame Tyler. He filed for divorce.

Yes, but what did SHE do that made him want to divorce her? :naughty:

Hopefully they're not that terrible when it comes to their own kids. One would hope they'd be able to set aside their beliefs about divorce and give her all the support she needs.

I feel sorry for her, as divorce is so frowned upon in the circles she moves in... I also wonder what happened, and whether her stopping work was an attempt to solve problems in the marriage.

In case anyone wants further proof that the divorce petition that was dug out up thread relates to them, there is a photo on Deanna's FB of the wedding car with 'DRM + KTM' written on one of the windows.

Oh, I feel really bad for her. I hope she finds the support she needs and is able to make peace with something she never expected.

It's really hard to get divorced in families/cultures where divorce is not readily accepted, even if the family/culture is in support of your particular divorce. It still feels like you've failed in the most drastic way possible.

I feel bad for everyone involved. I got the feeling that Deanna married partly to get the hell out of the children-stacked-like-cordwood house, where she slept on shelving with all her siblings in one room. I believe she was 19 when she married and he was 20 or 21. She is now 21. He had an Associate's Degree, I think. She worked for a while at Dairy Queen but then announced that she was quitting because Tyler's salary could support them both. Then she seemed frankly bored out of her mind, puttering around their 1 bedroom apartment, doing nothing--no volunteer work, no church work. He seemed to do nothing outside of work but play video games. She seems like a smart girl and it breaks my heart that she wasn't attending any sort of post-high school classes.

Around October or November, she stated that she and Tyler were going to "soon" move out of state because of his job. I wonder what happened. Perhaps he moved and she did not. Perhaps the job fell through.

I'm sure some will take this the wrong way, but I am grateful that Deanna didn't get pregnant. She's only 21 and has her whole life ahead of her.

Perhaps she can go live with some slightly less-fundy relatives and get an education.
