I don't have a problem with them saying that an outing to a fundraiser is a date or a treat or whatever. What I have a problem with it saying her husband "treated her" Like it is his money and she is grateful to be given anything. Isn't it THEIR money now?

I'm late to the party and this is probably over with. We have been married 7 years. For years, we had separate bank accounts, but in the past two years, we finally bit the bullet and got a joint account. I still consider it as my hubby "treating" me when he picks up the check or takes me out for an ice cream. It's the action, not the money.

As for Jill and Derick, I can't snark her instagram yet. It's her very first relationship, and she's going to gush about everything. I equate this with a 15 year old and her first boyfriend. You have to remember this is her FIRST relationship ever, so everything is new and exciting.

My original point was that I felt sorry for her. Jill is only a few years younger than me, but the language she uses makes it sound like this is a big deal for her.

At her age I was on a solo trio around Europe for 6 months, eating amazing spaghetti in Italy, not eating cheap, mass-produced spaghetti off paper plates in my home town with my husband.

Now I'm not saying Jill, or any fundie, has to run off overseas for their life to be fulfilling. But Jill has never even had the opportunity. She will most likely never have the opportunity to really do much other than be a wife and a mother. If that is really her choice, then so be it. But given the indoctrination she has been subjected to her entire life, I wouldn't really call that her choice.

It's probably very dramatic, but I feel like Jill's entire life was summed up pretty well in that Instagram post. She will eat cheap crap with a smile on her face in some small town in the South for the rest of her life. Because Jesus.

I've been abroad (and if you'll remember, Jill has traveled the world on TLC's check)...and I'm nearly 42 years old. I still consider any time I have with my husband outside of our normal "get up go to work come home take care of Mom go to bed" routine as a "treat." We don't have kids, but we nearly lost each other because of cancer. I'm pretty fucking happy in my small town america spaghetti on paper plates live. And just because we think Jill should want more, she doesn't, so good for her being happy.

Now, back to snarking that ass of a future brother-in-law she has.

Anyone else think Ben is only interested in ONE thing? I don't think they are a very good match from what I've seen. JillDill are great together- you can just tell that they love one another. I'm not feeling it with Bessa. I know Jessa is not an emotional person but I just don't see it at all with the 2 of them.

The black lace in this outfit looks nice because it's part of a black-yellow-black pattern. If Jessa's shirt were white it wouldn't look as good. Also, white lace reminds us of a slip showing, black lace - not so much.

I think part of the reason Jessa's yellow and black skirt looks better is that it was made that way and wasn't a tacky add on. It looks like the skirt was manufactured with trim on the bottom.

I think they noticed the Bateses girls wearing updated, fairly stylish dresses/skirts and JimBob decided his daughters need to up their game! Hence out with the denim skirts/buy-used-save-the-difference and in with the new!!!

I don't know about Jill and Derik, obviously, but the vast majority of married couples I've known have a joint bank account where they both have access to funds. Some will also have a small separate account for day to day purchases, but that more unusual in my experience. The banking set up, among people I know, doesn't seem to depend on employment status of either partner.

I really can't picture Michelle leaving all the finances up to Jim Bob and having no access to funds, I guess it's possible, it just seems like they are more likely to share financial access and decisions. I know many couples also put a $ limit on the amount either can spend on their own - but I don't think that's about control as much as just making sure that bills get paid.

My parents have a joint account, and they have a common understanding of how much can be spent from the account without informing the other. In their younger days it could be anything as much as $20, they had to ask the other first. Now it's more lenient as they've moved up in their respective jobs and are in a more comfortable place, but it has never struck me as strange that a couple would have a joint account... then again, my mom takes care of all the finances... not as 'the wife', but as 'the one who can do math'. So maybe my experience was different from the Duggars :roll:

I read something somewhere once that the Duggars talked about teaching their kids about finances and such by opening accounts for each of their children. But 'something somewhere once' is all I remember about the details of where/when I read that, so don't rely on me here. But I have the feeling that Jill should have a fair amount of funds of her own at this point, though I'm sure she and Derrick combined their finances when they got married. While Derrick might be the "breadwinner" at the moment, I think Jill probably brought a good chunk of her own money to the relationship and I'd be surprised if he tried to control her financially.

I think it's possible that Jessa (or Jana) sewed the black lace onto it, rather than the skirt being bought that way. What is obvious, is that she's not wearing a black skirt (or slip) under the yellow one, because where the yellow skirt slits (nike!) the black skirt also slits.

I thought I read somewhere that Gothard disapproves of skirts, which sucks monkey cock. I love to wear skirts, even long ones, but only if it's huge enough I can do high kicks in it, or if it has a big enough slit that I don't have to shorten my pace. It's a pain in the ass to have to walk slower because you're wearing a skirt that restricts leg movement.

imo, it's also influenced by the girls themselves. They're older, they care more. The family has more money/they have money for themselves (I believe) so they buy what they like, and increasingly, what looks good on them while staying in their modesty lines.

I think they actually, to a degree, liked the old long, baggy denim skirts, and those may have been the best choice of their options. Girls copy each other... they interact with other families wearing things they like so they branch out more, and as one or two of the girls do it, the others follow.

Just two years ago you never would have seen them in these "modern modest" clothes. Even a year ago. They exclusively wore knee length or long skirts and layered shirts. It always bothered me that they didn't wear dresses. Erin Bates wore a dress in her engagement pics that was fantastic, and Alyssa started to as well. Anna had to get some dresses to wear in DC. Jessa wore a great dress for a Bates wedding. With a BELT. The world went wild. Or maybe it was just me. They have since been wearing more and more cuter skirt/shirt combinations. Mainly Jessa, but Jill wears the occasional ok thing. She still likes baggier skirts. Jana is still a skirts/shirt person and so are the other girls

It feels weird that Jill is pregnant, even though she is about my age. Even weirder than adding loads of people from high school on Facebook and finding that half of those have kids too......I always thought of Jill as way younger than me cause she is less mature. Im just glad its not Jessa pregnant, cause seriously, I cant imagine that, but I think Jill would be a good mother, she loves kids. Just hope she doesn't have Michelle's fertility.
