JB and J'chelle's Anti-Choice commercial

Recommended Posts

Boob and the Dairy Queen filmed a commercial advocating for an amendment to prohibit patient privacy and rights to abortion in Tennessee. For some reason they frame their entire argument around their miscarriages despite the fact that they are totally unrelated to reproductive freedom.

http://www.slate.com/blogs/xx_factor/20 ... =obnetwork (not breaking because its slate)

to sum it up "children are a blessing...following the lord...children are a blessing...two miscarriages...children are a blessing" :pull-hair:

If I watched this without context I would honestly not realise it was meant to be anti-choice, at least not until the "every life {is} beautiful" at the end (WTF is up with the random curly brackets, anyway?). What are they trying to say when they talk about their miscarriages? Are they trying to imply that abortions cause grief, because the loss of a wanted child is exactly the same as the termination of an unwanted pregnancy? As far as I can tell, they seem to be implying that the grief they felt could only have been caused by the loss of a human being, ergo fetus = person.

I can agree children are a blessing from God; but Michelle adds "and reward" from God. Gee, Michelle does that mean those who cannot conceive are not "rewarded" by God? I think that choice of word would hurt those who have tried without producing a blessing.

I love how they make it all about them. THEY were blessed and rewarded by babies. The babies were just "look at us we're speshul" props. The pro-life message is almost non-existent. In the end, I don't think they really care all that much about their "pet issues". They're in character and it gets them on TV. That's why they talk about the miscarriages. The miscarriages also make them "speshul", as they get sympathy, so they trot them out whenever it's convenient. No matter what you're opinions on abortion are, the Duggars conduct is deplorable.

So great. Tennessee might go back to the ridiculous restrictions on abortion that drove me out of state? This is infuriating to me, but I don't think that the amendment will happen. I hope.

god does not reward people for having faith. the duggers only have one bullet so they have to fire it every time they they talk about abortion. they know nothing about it or the people that get them but it does not stop them from thinking they are experts and everyone should be like them.

Maybe they and their kind should realize this is the United States of America, not the United States of Jesus, and that our forefathers didn't declare an official state religion. The Duggars need to go home. They don't realize that not every woman wants to be under the thumb of a man as his subordinate. Women deserve the right to have control of their bodies, thankyouverymuch, but these poor dear Dugarettes can't comprehend how access to birth control for women (like me) who has had a baby, who doesn't want another for a while, or other women who don't want any children yet until they are ready, is a major accomplishment of women's rights.

As to anti-choicers and their sychophants (I'm looking at you, BenBob! :music-tool: ), if you don't believe in abortion, don't get one. That is YOUR choice.

Dear God, this family never ceases to irritate me. :snooty:

Ugh, go the fuck home Duggars. How pious and self-absorbed do you have to be to lobby to take rights away from people in another state? Sometimes I wish this country could split in two and the people who want their religion to rule the law could have their own little place I never had to visit.

Curious if the Duggars consider ALL children blessings/rewards from god. My children came to me via IVF. They probably don't count huh?

I'm not sure what the Fuckwits think, but I am happy I for you! And no doubt your kiddos are a blessing, because IVF doesn't always work, does it? I don't think Michelle has ever thought about other wombs but her own holy one. She cannot comprehend other women's situations, yet she imposes her opinions on others in the MOST obnoxious way possible. Get off your pedestal, Mullet, because the world does not revolve around MICHELLE. :hand:

Edited for a misused comma.

If children are a "reward" from God, does that mean Michelle did something wrong to have 2 miscarriages? Did they even think about what they were saying before they said it or do they consider every utterance an opportunity to "minister and serve" ?

Didn't you know, the first one was punishment for using the ebil birth control which is basically just like having an abortion. The second was probably cuz she kissed before marriage or some bullshit

I have had two ectopic pregnancies that resulted in emergency surgery. I wonder if they would think I was evil for choosing the surgeries?

Obviously you should have died for your BAYBEES!

Seriously, though, I don't get that attitude. I mean, if you really, really believe that an embryo is a person, I can respect that up to a point, as long as you're not acting to take away my rights as a woman and a human being. But if you really, really believe that an embryo is a person, there's still no excuse for not having surgery for an ectopic pregnancy. It doesn't count as a selfless sacrifice when your death causes the death of the "person" you're sacrificing yourself for.

Fuck you JB and Michelle! You have absolutely no right to force your beliefs on the rest of America...none whatsoever. You are a disgrace to other Christians and Christianity in general.

Not the same exact case, but a doctor in Poland is being hailed as a pro-life hero for denying an abortion and purposefully misleading the family to not get one elsewhere. It had severe facial deformities and missing parts of its brain. The baby died a few days after.

They don't actually care about life

This!

I wonder how fast Ben-Bob would change his tune if faced with Jessa having an ectopic pregnancy? Or Josh and Anna? Or Derick and Jill?

Would these men truly put their young brides in gods hands if faced with this? Or would they choose to save one life rather than lose two?

They're so flipping clueless - do they think that the majority of abortions are partial birth abortions happening at 34 weeks? I just... I can't....

As one who can not produce a blessing, it is very hurtful. I'm sure my underlying medical issues which have made me infertile were exactly a punishment from God /sarcasm.

That ad HAD to be commissioned by the pro-choice coalition. This quote sums up what I was thinking:

For most of us, living like the Duggars sounds like a nightmare, regardless of your position on abortion. Putting them out front only serves to confirm people's worst fears about the end goals of the anti-choice movement.

And miscarriage is not equal to abortion, any more than stillbirth is equal to murder! (Despite that sentence, I am pro-choice - I made it dramatic to illustrate my comparison.)

I am offended by the word "reward" - I know a hell of a lot of people who deserve children who cannot have them, and we ALL know of losers who should not have children who do. What are the losers doing "right" - getting laid while their crack pipe lays smoldering beside them? Their "reward" is a crack baby 9 months later? While in the meantime that arrogant twit DQ sits beside women who are waiting to get their "reward" at an infertility clinic recently? Would she have said that in the waiting room of her doctor's office while she waited to learn the fucking obvious: That after 22 pregnancies and closing in on 50, she is (and should be) D.O.N.E? No, because she probably assumed they were mooning over her as the Fertility Goddess Herself, while they themselves waited to see whether this IVF "took" or whether they ovulated or what kind of self-inflicted pain they had to endure so they could have a "blessing". To hear her say "reward" at this season of her damned life when she should have a better understanding and sensitivity toward these kinds of issues is INFURIATING.

My sweet pup was diagnosed with a brain tumor in September. She passed away in my arms on Thanksgiving morning. It all happened so fast. She didn't want to eat anything the day before, but prior to that was ok. Knew it was near time and had booked an appointment to take her next week. However, she decided for me. She was only 8 and really was one of the best dogs. She never met a stranger, human or dog. Life isn't the same without her.

I made my first Granny Square! After nearly 30 years of knitting and crocheting this was a project I never did. Until now! I needed something to do with my rest of very colourful yarn and now I am very happy. I need to try different needles with my yarns but I think I found something nice for the future.
I needed only 3 different youtube videos until I found a person who explained the concept slowly and repetitive and with words I can understand. I hate when these tutorials make me feel dumb.

We had to put our 14 year old dachshund, Trinket, down today.  She was fine Thursday, but by mid-morning yesterday, it was apparent that something was really wrong,  She had zero energy, lost her appetite and began walking into corners.  By morning I knew it was time for her to have her final visit to the vet.  She had lost about a pound and a half recently.  RIP, Trinket!

Horrific! A 6 year old boy was murdered, and mother severly injured, in a hate crime in Chicago. Reports say they are both Palestinian Muslims and were specifically targeted because of that. Thankfully the man who did it is in custody
      This is pure evil
