Rewatching on Netflix

I have been re-watching and watching some seasons for the first time on Netflix. I am really confused about the season set up on Netflix. It seems when I try to watch a newer episode on YouTube I am way off of the Netflix season.

I wanted to talk about some of the things I have noticed while watching.

I read here, but couldn't find it, about people discussing whether or not John David still lives at home or not. During the episode where Boob and Mullet are on a "mission" trip, and Josie has a seizure, John David says that he got a page and the address looked familiar. He then says he got up and went to the "other house". He quickly corrects that and says that he went to the house. To me I think this means that JD has left and is living on his own. It seems as though he is still around for some of the public appearances, but not all the time. He seems to still be working for Boob with towing. I was wondering if maybe they have some sort of agreement that he can live outside the TTH as long as he keeps up the appearances of being part of the perfect family.

Anyone have thoughts or ideas on this?

Another Duggar thing I have noticed is that Anna hasn't seemed to announce a pregnancy in a while. I know her and Smuggar have waffled on "keeping up with Michelle" and towing the party line of as many as God allows, but I noticed that when Michelle announced she was having baby number 20, Anna said something about catching up, or keeping up. Smuggar did not seem to enjoy that and they corrected her statement to the party line. I wonder if they are doing something to slow down a bit since Anna seems overwhelmed, or Josh really doesn't want anymore? It certainly seems odd after her having 3 pregnancies so close together, that the 4th hasn't been announced yet.

I haven't seen many of the newer episodes, but have been digging in the Duggar past lately. It sure is interesting to see the changes they have made.

I also noticed that Anna mentioned catching up to Michelle, and Smuggar immediately corrected her. Interesting...

Also, in watching past episodes, Jill dominates most of the interviews! She still did this past season, and my roommates and I got very annoyed at her/ laughed at Jana's awkwardness (she would just stare at Jill when Jill was speaking in the interviews, which was practically all the time.)

Last thing, why did all the girls back then wear the Star of David on a necklace? I am truly curious, because the only person I have ever known to do so is Jewish, and the Duggars are not. However, a lot of their rules (the level of modesty, sex during menstruation) seem to follow Jewish rules.

Anna will catch up, and have at least 6 kids. Josh's job depends on it. Why would the hire a homeschool GED for a 175k a year job who only plans on 3 kids? Anna's mom had 8 kids over 18 years? Does anyone know how old Anna's mom was when she stopped and started having kids? and why she stopped?

As for Josie's seizure I thought JD said he was on the other side of the house. Meaning the boys dorm side and he raced across the house (cat walk) to get to the girls side were Josie was.

I also noticed that Jill dominates most interviews. She still does so during their book tour interviews. I liked Jill until I noticed this trait. She often interrupts the other girls. It is so annoying. Jana does just stare at her. I wonder if she is annoyed, or just glad she doesn't have to say anything.

As much kool-aid that Jill seems to have had, she has such a dominating personality, I am curious with how her relationship dynamic with Derrik is. Isn't Jill supposed to be submissive and not have an opinion according to all their religious views?

I noticed the Star of David, but didn't think much of it until you brought it up. That is an interesting question. I wonder if anyone knows the answer. They also don't eat pork products. They do follow a lot of the same rules that Jews do, so they probably just follow the Old Testament as well as the New Testament.

I think Derick is outnumber and overwhelmed. It doesn't matter what Gothardism teaches. Derick is gonna go with whatever the party line is and of course Jill is going to pretend like it was her headships idea. I think that nice little house and that nice TLC paycheck depends on whether or not they go by Jim Bob's rules. In the beginning I thought maybe Derick was gonna direct her away and start the detox but I think he has since sold himself out because he has no choice in the matter. Money is a powerful thing and it can take the best of people and turn them.

The only thing I can hope for is that Derick is such a sincere Christian he will not buy into anything ATI or Gothard. Maybe he is wary of groups that could be considered cults. We will have to wait and see if they attend a regular church or the duggar church. I hope they get a missionary position and move away from the whole reality show world.

Now Ben? He's attended the ATI conferences already. He loves speaking his beliefs and loves that ATI does the same.

I'm pretty sure they started wearing the Star of David necklaces after going to Israel. They seem to take the Old Testament pretty seriously- a little more seriously than a lot of other Christians (as far as rules go). I guess I could sit here and try to think of reasons why they thought it would be cool to wear those necklaces (Jesus was Jewish, the OT is as important as the New Testament) but I think it just boils down to them being salad bar religious people- picking and choosing what suits them and forgetting the rest.

Shh... don't tell the Duggars, but even modern orthodox modesty standards are stricter, with women having to cover at least half of the upper arm. Ultra-orthodox women have to cover the elbow. Both (not some modern) have to wear a hair covering when married.

To me it's weird that t they choose not to eat pork, but eat meat and milk together.

Their wearing Star of David necklaces pisses me off. As part of a minority religion, you feel a connection to someone when they show their Jewish pride, so to speak, because you see a stranger you have something in common with. And, speaking as someone who has a personal connection to the long history of Jewish persecution, you feel like that stranger just kind of gets it...just have a similar level of understanding of certain issues and such. I don't know if I'm explaining this well. But it's like the Duggar girls think that a symbol of Jewish faith and Judiasm and all of Jewish history has no meaning, and that the star is just a pretty ornament.

As for Jill dominating interviews, remember when Jinger said in an interview she wanted to live in a city, and Jill interrupted all, "you might marry a man who doesn't want to live in a city, work on your happiness yo, don't want things"

And Smuggar makes $175k? :wtf:

And modern orthodox rules about touching before marriage are stricter. No touching the opposite sex whatsoever unless you are related.

Yeah, I agree it's pretty offensive. I picture the older girls seeing them in Israel and asking their parents if they could buy them and JB and Michelle saying "sure! I'm sure we can incorporate it somehow to fit in with our beliefs. Jesus was a Jew. Sold." They seem to not have a sense of respect for anyone else that is different from them. Or any other culture.

Of course, they aren't following ALL the rules of Orthodox Judaism, I just think it is interesting that some of the ATI rules resemble orthodox rules, and the Star of David thing.

I agree with what was posted above about Jill and Derick. He will go along with whatever Boob wants, which in a way gives Jill some form of authority.

I don't think it's at all offensive, I see it as being supportive of Judaism and Israel. I do think it's a bit weird because I'd mistake them for Jews and be like "oh, is there an orthodox synagogue in Tonitown?" Which might make for an awkward conversation.

I think the production team pokes fun at their hypocrisy.

i've noticed that too  it's almost like inside jokes with snark fans.

Is that his actual salary or just a guesstimate?

Someone had pulled up FRC actual salaries and people in his position/job titles make over 100k and don't do the travel and radio that Josh does. Besides the salary, I can't imagine how much the FRC pays for all his(lots of time the whole family) travels, first class, food. I do wish Josh or FRC would give him a clothing budget. It always bothers me that he makes so much, is the face of the FRC and wears cheap suits or sometimes not even a suit.

Not having expensive suits when you can afford them is what I consider actual modesty.

The BEST examples of the production crew being awesome were the episodes where Josh and Anna are first engaged and where the family goes to the Creation Museum. Right after Josh and Anna were first engaged they drove back to Arkansas from Florida (Susanna Keller was in the episode and wearing the exact same outfit as Priscilla!) and went on a date to Abuelo's with JD and Jana. When they pray before the meal, Josh actually says a long prayer that involves staying pure for marriage (just eat the damn tacos, Dude) and the camera pans out to several people staring at them and snickering. They even show a painting of a woman on the wall with a hilarious look on her face. I think that is the first episode with Amy in it and she calls out JB and Michelle on kissing before marriage even though Josh says he can't. They've really shut her up since then.

In the creation museum episode they break away and interview 2-3 random people to ask if they "believe" in evolution and if the earth is really 6,000 years old, etc. It seems like they are all kind of having a good laugh together behind the Duggars backs and I looooooove it.

I'm also attempting to rewatch. I shut off last night's episode before it was done -- they were on the Today show to announce another pregnancy and passing out photos of their family on the sidewalk in Times Square. It's also the episode in which Jackson got lost in the airport. He's sitting on a J-slave's lap, obviously still terrified and tearful, while J-Chelle is off in the distance yapping on her cell phone and grinning.

Who the hell does that?

I just finished that season. It galls me how they pass out pictures of themselves. Boob did it with Kirk Cameron, too; the girls were a little star struck and Boob gave him a book like, "Dude, we are the same, you and me. We get each other." UM. no. He's not as star struck as you, get over your damn self.

People with a real education and degree don't even get that much. All josh has to do is look pretty. wtf??? I he doesn't even do his job right. He's never there anyway.

I think that there has been some editing done of the Netflix seasons.

For example, most of the Jordyn neglect is gone. I distinctly remember her climbing to the top of the staircase and crawling down to the bottom and that scene was reduced to her just crawling down the bottom three or four steps.

Agreed. When I see someone wearing a Star of David, I immediately think "That's one of my people. They get me on some level." Especially so when you live in an area where there are not many Jewish people.

My sweet pup was diagnosed with a brain tumor in September. She passed away in my arms on Thanksgiving morning. It all happened so fast. She didn't want to eat anything the day before, but prior to that was ok. Knew it was near time and had booked an appointment to take her next week. However, she decided for me. She was only 8 and really was one of the best dogs. She never met a stranger, human or dog. Life isn't the same without her.

I made my first Granny Square! After nearly 30 years of knitting and crocheting this was a project I never did. Until now! I needed something to do with my rest of very colourful yarn and now I am very happy. I need to try different needles with my yarns but I think I found something nice for the future.
I needed only 3 different youtube videos until I found a person who explained the concept slowly and repetitive and with words I can understand. I hate when these tutorials make me feel dumb.

We had to put our 14 year old dachshund, Trinket, down today.  She was fine Thursday, but by mid-morning yesterday, it was apparent that something was really wrong,  She had zero energy, lost her appetite and began walking into corners.  By morning I knew it was time for her to have her final visit to the vet.  She had lost about a pound and a half recently.  RIP, Trinket!

Horrific! A 6 year old boy was murdered, and mother severly injured, in a hate crime in Chicago. Reports say they are both Palestinian Muslims and were specifically targeted because of that. Thankfully the man who did it is in custody
