Kidist thinks the NY Public Library should give her money

super skeptic

Recommended Posts

Kidist thinks that the NY Library rejected her grant application because "insufficient ethnic, feminist, Third World, etc. identification, and my book's aim to introduce (or re-introduce) Western beauty in this world of non-Western multiculturalism."

I can't stop laughing.

She says she is going to inflate her Ethiopian background a bit to gain more favor, and I can't wait to see her pseudo-intellectual blabber rejected again.

They rejected you because you are not a qualified applicant, Kidist. For frack's sake.

Oh FFS. I've met Hazel McCallion several times. That portrait IS her. She's a tough, calculating, wrinkled ex-hockey player.

Kidist thinks art has to be pretty to be good. And that is one huge reason her art sucks. It's - at best - Hallmark card art.

Don't you find it interesting that if Kidist doesn't like someone, she immediately insults their looks? No feminist, no rival in art, no liberal is ever pretty in her eyes. I truly think that Kidist extends her beauty = goodness to human beings.

Librarians who have worked with the public for any length of time have highly-developed radar for The Crazy. If the folks at NYPL who make these grant decisions perform due diligence and read Kidist's blog, they'll know exactly what they're dealing with. :cray-cray:

Snowball's chance in hell, says I.

Kidist's putting her plan to scam them on the internet can only help. :shifty:

I applying for a grant to the New York Public Library, again! [...] After all, this is a year's salary while living in the expensive New York City that I'm competing for!

...um, really? As far as I can tell, none of their grants are for a year. There are nine-month fellowships at the Center for Scholars and Writers, and all of those go to people with serious chops. All the rest are short-term and/or in highly specialist areas.

Applications like hers are the ones that grant application sifters LOVE, because they get tossed out immediately.

Oh, her grant is for a highly specialized area, the study of Why Asians Suck Western Beauty.

Hazel McCallion is 93 years old. She's entitled to every gray hair and wrinkle. Despite her age, she's still mayor of a large city, tough as nails, powerful and popular. The portrait is pretty good.

When I read Kidist's review of the painting, I immediately looked up Mayor McCallion to see if the painting is really such a travesty. Nope:

That is the portrait of a woman who takes exactly zero shit from people.

I think I like her.

A years salary for Kidist is exactly $0.00, so it's not a big ask.

One glance at her blog would knock her out of the running for anything.

That's right, claim you're different from all the other non-whites because you've let go of Ethiopia entirely in favor of Canada...until you need money to fund your "research" (i.e. stalking random passerby, spouting your hateful opinions at strangers).

Then it's okay to play up the fact that you're Ethiopian. Did she ever stop to consider that maybe she was rejected for some other reason BESIDES her not being feminist, liberal, etc.? May I suggest that the people looking at her application actually read her blog?

OT, but "Hurricane Hazel" is awesome. She's been mayor since before the city existed. She's still held in reverence for the way she organized the city during the rail disaster in the 70's. In person, she's blunt and expects people to get shit done.

My sweet pup was diagnosed with a brain tumor in September. She passed away in my arms on Thanksgiving morning. It all happened so fast. She didn't want to eat anything the day before, but prior to that was ok. Knew it was near time and had booked an appointment to take her next week. However, she decided for me. She was only 8 and really was one of the best dogs. She never met a stranger, human or dog. Life isn't the same without her.

I made my first Granny Square! After nearly 30 years of knitting and crocheting this was a project I never did. Until now! I needed something to do with my rest of very colourful yarn and now I am very happy. I need to try different needles with my yarns but I think I found something nice for the future.
I needed only 3 different youtube videos until I found a person who explained the concept slowly and repetitive and with words I can understand. I hate when these tutorials make me feel dumb.

You know what I hate most about subtle racism? The gaslighting. Stop cosplaying as a nice person and say it with your chest.

We had to put our 14 year old dachshund, Trinket, down today.  She was fine Thursday, but by mid-morning yesterday, it was apparent that something was really wrong,  She had zero energy, lost her appetite and began walking into corners.  By morning I knew it was time for her to have her final visit to the vet.  She had lost about a pound and a half recently.  RIP, Trinket!

Horrific! A 6 year old boy was murdered, and mother severly injured, in a hate crime in Chicago. Reports say they are both Palestinian Muslims and were specifically targeted because of that. Thankfully the man who did it is in custody
      This is pure evil
