A Huge Commercial Space

No, this post is not about Michelle's vagina or uterus, just to settle your mind.

On the davidlovespriscilla blog, midway down, there is a mention of the Duggars arranging for the rental of a large commercial building for use as a worship space.

The Duggars have arranged the rental of a commercial building where families can come together for a church fellowship. We enjoyed attending with many others.

I get the sneaky feeling this is some kind of sneaky way for the Duggars to make money from an empty building. Either they "donate" the space for use as a church and get a big tax right-off, or they rent it to the congregation and get the rent for themselves from the tithes collected.

I know they don't get a right-off for their house, but could this be why they no longer have a home church? It just wasn't profitable?

Anybody else have any ideas?

Well of course they'd be making money from it. They'd be idiots if they weren't. The money they live off that doesn't come from TLC is from real estate. And why not take advantage of tax write offs if they exist? Frankly I'm glad they have the business sense to support their huge family, unlike some fundies (like Esther's husband).

Is this the space that the Life is not all pickles and hairspray-page refers to as The Church of the Blacked Out Windows?

Anyways, it makes sense that they'd be making money off of it, and I don't begrudge them that. But moving from a home church to a larger shindig probably has several other reasons ("fellowshipping" with more people, etc), they could probably make money off of the building in other ways.

They may charge rent. To do any kind of tax write off they first must actually become a church by filing as such with the IRS. That is something Jim Bob has been against doing.

If they tag-teamed with another church, they could get a tax right-off, like being a second location or annex to another church.

I just get a weird feeling about this. Maybe it was the way it was worded by David, or general distrust of what I've seen of the Duggars on their television show. I just feel like something is off here and I'm missing it.

I wonder if the rent they charge is on par with other buildings of the same size and location.

I don't blame them in the least for charging rent- it is his business after all, but it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. To me, something is not right. JMHO.

"C-BOW" looks a lot like the commercial buildings on their property and/or those owned by JB up the road. Seems likely that JB has 'arranged' for C-BOW to work out of one of his properties. Tax-break indeed.

From my understanding, the church or organization must be non-profit and not involved in politics to get the tax-write-off. Boob will have to charge rent or donate.

What gets me is I have seen pictures of Jim Boob standing at the front of their " church" looking like he is giving a sermon. Is he a full fledged minister?

If nothing else, having those black out drapes over the window must make it very hot in there (unless its air-conditioned).

Not that I have ever heard or read-just a wanna-be!!! I wonder why he has not gone that route like his buddy Gil Bates???

Growing up in a Fundamental Baptist Church- I know that we always had to have the sanctuary doors shut and the curtains drawn before the actual worship service began. I have heard different reasons why- my grandmother said it was because of a Bible verse that told believers to worship God in private and not for show where as others have told me it made the building more secure. Not sure if either of these apply with the Duggars.

Maybe they've had trouble with lookie loos or did they possibly move to a different commercial space? They didn't cover the house windows at home or at the airport house where they held church. They didn't cover them at the first commercial space (or maybe it was this one earlier). Something changed or happened.

I wonder this too. I mean, it can't be incredibly difficult. A female coworker of mine is an "ordained minister" from some bs online thing, so I'm sure Boob could do it too. Although if it required actual schooling or anything like that, I could see it being too much work for Boob.

It's not like anyone seems to challenge his bs anyway. Apparently just being the man of the house makes you good enough to be a minister...

Haven't posters here in the past pulled up documents signed Rev. Duggar? I thought I saw some posted here in relation either to the trust or looking into the details of Josh's car lot or housing.

WE all know anyone can become an internet minster to lets say marry their friends but I would hope that someone who seems to have his whole life encompass religion would go o some sort of seminary. What else does he do all day? He could easily have attended a seminary in the past 5 years. I have a feeling he wants to start a church of Duggar, worried that Ben might get to be involved. Can't give Ben a car lot so I'll give him a church.

I have just googled it and apperently it doesn't require any schooling or other effort. At some online "churches" it just takes a minute to fill out a form.

They even send you a written confirmation and everything. Although I somehow doubt ATI would recognize such a minister, as they ordain everyone, even women :pink-shock:

The "Rev." didn't refer to Reverend, it referred to the type of trust that held various things - a Revocable trust.

But ATI is very clear that it's non denominational (even though its dominated by IFBs and doesn't recognise Catholics as Christians). And IFB churches are just that - independent. You even have pastors like Steve Anderson preaching that bible college/seminary/formal religious training are sinful. I very much doubt Gil Bates finished a formal course of rigorous religious/pastoral education through a recognised denomination. He just decided God had called him to preach, just like the Pissing Preacher, Michael Pearl, Doug Phillips, Gothard himself and plenty of others, probably including JimBob.

Plus a lot of these congregations want the fathers to take turns giving Sunday messages regardless of their level of education.
