Duggar Fam Instagram

So I follow (like a good fundie snarker) all the Duggars & some of their fellow fellowshippers on Instagram. They recently posted a video of the kids swimming. All fun & lot of coverings. And it looks like at least the little girls got out of wearing those god awful modest wear swim suits. But it looks like all the girls, even Johannah, have on those wet suits with built in floatations devices. I know I'll get some disagreeers here, but aren't they (at least Jordyn on up) way too old to need those? I understand they might not have as many swimming opportunities bc of their skin-aphobia issues. But that's a safety issue to me for my kids to not know how to swim.

Maybe they are just reusing them to save buying new ones without floaties in them?

Maybe they are over cautious and want the floatie part just in case.

Yes, I can see these kids not getting many swimming lessons but I do have commend Boob and DQ if they did notice this and did not throw their kids the deep end without a floatation device.

Yes it is shitty they are not all up to a higher swimming level but on the grand scheme of their parenting fails that is not a high one.

On a side not I am such a fan of the modesty swim suits and not because I am modest but because I am a ginger and burn in the moonlight. Even if I had a rockin body alas there would be no bikinis for me.

I would swim in a burqa to avoid the burn lol

I took a cruise on over to the DuggarFam Instagram myself and I noticed two things. One: The Duggar Boys like to post selfies of them smoldering (or trying to smolder, whatever way you want to look at it) thought that kind of behavior would be so against the rules. Two: I think it's Jason? I may be wrong who is dressed like a hipster in red skinny jeans and the fedora, don't get me wrong I think its awesome that they are moving away from typical fundie clothing but aren't skinny jeans defrauding? the womenfolk can't wear jeans for that exact reason but the boys can wear tight jeans? The Duggar boys have come along way from pleated grandpa khakis and faded Goodwill polos. Oh and then the biggest offender of them all BenBob SeeDuggar in his v-neck muscle tshirts and backward side slanted hats complete with overly gelled hair and pencil beard like the douchebags from the Jersey Shore. Since when is that appropriate?

I also have very fair skin and I get all red like a little lobster if I stay more than two hours in the sun. Sunscreen is the key but for days at the beach or the pool, when you come in and out of the water often, I wear a sun shirt. It works well.

But we all know the reasons the Duggar kids are all covered up isn't because of the sun. At least the little girls don't have these weird modest dress-shaped swimwear anymore. If you look at the picture with Jordyn, it does seem like the floaties were taken out. Personally, I love to swim. I used to do laps once a week as a teen, and did all my classes to become a lifeguard. If I have kids one day, they'll definitely learn the basics, even if they don't enjoy swimming, just for safety reasons. That being said, like AussieKirssy pointed out earlier, the fact the Duggars didn't teach their kids how to swim is not the worst thing ever for me.

I have to wonder though, those dressed-shaped wholesome swimwear must be heavy? I understand it's a swimsuit fabric but it's still a LOT of fabric.

lol I wish I could spend 2 hours in the sun before burning. On a medium UV rating day I burn as soon as my skin gets warm to touch.

I agree with EmeraldPickle, I've also noticed that the Duggar boys love to "smolder" (or at least attempt to look tough, or sophisticated) in poses for the camera, and I think that any church that promotes modesty would say that is a no-no--its VANITY!

And 2 cheers for pointing out OfJessa's muscle tees--why are the hypermasculine naked bulging arm muscles of Ben Seewald, Chad Paine or Skylar Weiss not tempting to helpless ladies like myself, but the shoulders and calves of little girls are irresistible to menfolk?

Imo James has always been the spitting image of Amy, I think it's quite cool to see how the genetics worked out! It's funny because I don't think Jim Bob and Deanna look alike at all.

Me too. Step out the door - burn. The forty five minute walk to work requires sunscreen and a hat ... and should I point out its winter so I'm also wearing coat, gloves and scarf. It's ridiculous. The Duggars might dress the kids like this for modesty but the bonus for the kids is that they will be protected from the sun.

As for the floaties, I think it's a good idea. These kids don't swim regularly. There would be lots of kids jumping in and out of the water and, probably, not really paying attention to each other. Michelle isn't exactly going to dive into to help a little one in trouble. I think the floaties make it a little safer for them.
