I love your new user title, happy atheist.

And here I thought I was the fun killer lol

There is no way Jill would already know she's pregnant. Let's say she conceived on her wedding night. She would only miss her period this weekend. There are tests that claim to be able to tell 5 days before your missed period, but I can't see her already knowing. No way.

And a spin off show? I would certainly be more interested in Jill and Derick than Josh and Anna or J'chelle and JB. I'd like to see more of the kids in general. I don't care about J'chelle or JB at all. They're annoying. But the kids are certainly interesting.

I don't know, the Duggars and Bateses are both pretty obsessive with the charting and pregnancy testing. I'll bet the special package from Michelle wasn't much more than a shitload of EPTs.

Yeah, I have a hard time thinking Jill would know so quickly about being pregnant this soon after her marriage, too. If she did actually quit her midwife training after the honeymoon, I'm wondering if it was because everyone expected it of her because of her upbringing. I hope it's not true, because that would really suck.

Well, if she did quit, she may go a few months or year or so and find out she misses it, because she enjoyed it, and then go back.

I got my BFP a week before AF was due so it is possible (we'd been TTC for a year so very clued in) especially if she has strong pregnancy symptoms such as hyperemesis.

I got a BFP 5 days before my period was due....and I had severe HG, so yah, it is possible- though not likely. (My HCG #'s were 20,000+ at 5 weeks)

Regarding midwifery, I believe Gothard does/did teach that working is only acceptable for unmarried women and once they've married they need to devote all their time to the home.

I guess we'll see pretty soon where the Duggars fall on that issue. If Jill wants to quit that's one thing, but if she really likes it I hope she doesn't feel like she has to quit now that she's married.

We're talking about the Duggars. Don't the married Duggar women pee on a stick every time the go, unless the have already confirmed a pregnancy?

I'm new to Free Jinger and I'm surprised that so many people are shocked that Jill quit school/quit working. This is Michelle Duggar's daughter...

I agree with you....Jill and Derick would be a thousand times more interesting than Michelle and JB. I guess I'm just wishing that Jill/Derick would just be happy with a normal life, away from the camera...seems like Jill's more likely to move toward normalcy without the pressure of a camera. But that might just be wishful thinking on my part... :(

Jill quitting midwifery makes me sad mostly because I thought that was something she really loved doing. You don't just abandon something you've put so much time and energy into. It makes me think that maybe she didn't like it as much as she was letting on like she was doing it to play house, but now that she doesn't have to play she has no use for it.

I am not sure how interesting a Jill/Derrick show would be. Jill doesn't go to school or work and they have no kids. I am not sure they would be any more interesting than any other newlyweds off the street and are likely to be less interesting becuase they don't engage in activities most of us do. Half the show would probably involve Jill having the family over for dinner. Will she be able to cook for such a large group on her own? Or Jill and Derrick take her siblings to the water park and we can hear again about modest swimsuits. Will Derrick be able to control all the howlers? They could end every episode with Jill peeing on a stick and we can stay tuned to see if it's positive. I mean, what could they so to keep the show going. I have yet to hear anything about Derrick that makes him extra interesting other than that he married into crazy town.

Well, they could start with a going to the dentist episode...I mean, Derick can't be officially part of the Duggar circus show until he's had a dentist appointment filmed and telivised on national TV. ;)

It's all very Jane Austen...

I think she may have actually loved it, but she's been taught her whole life that married women aren't supposed to work that it's a sin. She's also been taught to put her personal happiness aside. In her mind she's making a sacrifice in order to be a godly woman.

Assuming she has quit. Maybe just maybe she hasn't.

Posted

I reckon she has quit and really, we shouldn't be surprised. I think we all thought that because Derick is fundie lite she might adopt some of his beliefs but it isn't the case.

Posted

I wonder if maybe she is taking some time off to help care for Derick's mother. I could see how she would feel a duty to jump right into that role at this point. And good on her if she does, but I'd hope she returns to her career as soon as she can.

Posted

Truthfully it would e more surprising if she kept up her studies. As for Derick I'm not sure I can classify him as fundie lite. I too was originally exited about him going to college and having a female family member that wore pants and had short hair, but there are many hardcore fundies that disguise themselves as fundie lites or even regular folks.

As for a Jill ad Derick show no thanks. There is nothing spectacular about them at this point. I'd rather watch a show about Lawson Bates trying to make it as an artist.

Honestly, it wouldnt surprise me if she quit being a midwife. BUT I would be surprised if she didn't go into nursing at some point. I think she was a midwife because:

1. it got her out the house

2. it was Gothard approved

I think she may take a break from studying. Getting married, getting used to being in on your own, etc is a lot of adjustment and not conducive to learning. Plus, as someone else stated, she may be taking care of Derick's mom. Or at least spending a lot of time with her.

I think once she does go back to studying, it will be a real nursing degree. She may even attempt a pre-med degree.

I was gone for a few days and had sorta hoped I'd come back to this thread and see pictures of Jill with pants or a haircut. Oh well, she has a right to live a fun die lifestyle if that's what she likes.

In Australia home births are still quite uncommon though they have gained some popularity in recent years. Also in Australia I have never heard of a mid wife apprentice. You can only get your degree at University and you do pracs/placements in hospitals. You can do a straight Mid Wife 3 (?) year degree or a 3 year RN Degree with an extra year (I think) to become a mid wife. I know a friend of a friend who dropped out of her mid wife course because she was required as part of her learning and or prac to participate in abortions. This went against her religion. I don't know about the USA where home birth is more common and therefore you can choose to work from home and pick your clients rather than in a hospital where god forbid you may have to treat or deal with anything against your ethics This is one reason why IMO I do not see Jill getting her RN.

Another reason as does she have the IQ to? Being homeschooled to a year 9 level does she have the smarts to complete for example university chemistry?

Reason three aren't they frugal? Why spend money on a degree that you won't use when you pop out a baby?

Anyway they are some of my random thoughts, 2 cents worth I have had whilst reading this link and watching the show.

Not surprised if she quit! I read in their "book" (don't look at me, I'm ashamed) & she specifically said it was something to do while she was single.

Would love if the reason is to help take care of her new MIL.

Random, but for some stupid reason, it really bothers me someone gave them that red tote picnic basket thing as a wedding present. It says "The Dillards" with razorback symbols on it. How stupid?! I know the Duggars are Arkansas razorback fans, even tho NO ONE went there. But to give it as a gift to the couple where 1 didn't go to school at all, & 1 went to OSU? (And I'm assuming he's a pretty big fan, being the mascot & all.) That just pisses me off.
