Kate's Book & The Duggars

I'm not even half way done with the Kate Goselin book but, it has me thinking about the duggars. TLC planned everything on that show and then had an excuse for how it just "happened". Jill and Jessa courting and their book coming out at the same time did not happen by chance. I wonder if TLC started Jill & Derricks courtship. It sure made for good tv.

I've always thought that TLC might have started Jessa & Ben's courtship to drum up more interest in the show, and then Jill and Derrick's courtship happened, and was way more interesting and genuine.

The courtships and the book release were orchestrated by TLC. I do think Jill/Derick were supposed to be the featured couple then Jessa/Ben. But, Derick couldn't get out of his missionary duties. It's obvious to me that Jill/Derick had been courting before his mission trip. They looked too comfortable around each other. And their first meeting at the airport? That is the type of reaction you see when people have been apart for a while.

You're talking about the expose book right? I've been reading that too and thinking a lot about the Duggars. Especially when they talk about all the FU Internets moments that we all know happen on 19KaC.

If TLC were orchestrating courtships, why would they start so far down the line with Jessa? Why not hook Jana or JD up as they're next oldest? I don't doubt TLC has their fingers in everything, but I feel like the courtships probably started or the couples were chosen by themselves (or JB gross enough).

You can read a majority of it in the "look inside" feature. The parts about the contracts and TLC owning their life and being able to dictate EVERYTHING down to style of dress and behavior of the kids is sad yet not surprising.

Interesting read, but so sad for the Gosselin kids. Kate sure is a sneaky mastermind who only cares for herself (the most recent VSE on TLC proves this even more...)

I started the Kate book last night and there are definitely a lot of questions that it brings up!

I didn't mean TLC put the couples together. I meant they have mislead viewers as to which couple began courting first. Sorry I didn't make that more clear.

Right... I'm guessing Kate's approach was relenting to any coo-coo craziness TLC wanted out of her. But I'm guessing Jim Bob negotiated something more along the lines of "We love Jesus so we're not going to let you dictate WHAT we do (except for a trip to an organic farm, but whatever), but we'll sure the heck put you on Speed Dial for anything that happens (say, if one of our grandchildren is being born on a toilet)... and if you want to toss chronology to the wind and edit the timing, that's fine (since the Bible also loves to play with timing)." :?

Oh my- just reading the Publishers Description and the Reviews it sounds like this is a real humdinger of a book! I have a relative who has triplets that are three years younger than the sextuplets and she just thought Jon and Kate were just amazing and was contstantly posting stuff about them.

Then after they got divorced- it was radio silence. I think Kate lost part of her audience because even TLC couldn't hide her extreme control issues. It's uncomfortable to watch her kids take that kind of emotional abuse (her husband- I really didn't feel that bad for him. He seemed to enjoy playing the part of the long suffering martyr). I think some jumped ship when she got divorced- I really don't know how they couldn't see it coming. And then I think some of the interest naturally drops over time. I feel terrible for those kids.

TLC: jimbob you need to have some of the girls courting before their book comes out about relationships. Not all of them maybe two ?

TLC: who do you know the girls ages that is single. Let's make a list.
