Michelle mentioned in the 20 and Counting booked watching a movie in high school that converted her to Christianity. I wonder what the movie was and why it made her give up activities she enjoyed. Why owuld anyone take it so seriously?

Michelle, like 95%+ of people northern Arkansas, was a Christian to start out with and went to church as a child. When she says she "converted to Christianity" she means that it made her from normal to fanatic. In my experience a lot of young people (age 12 - 22) go through a period of a few months where they become much more religious than before or experiment with a new religion, and I think that if Michelle hadn't met and married the Boob, she might have come out of it in her first year of college or work.

I agree with this but I still want to know what movie caused her to dabble in the fanatical.

Michelle is going for the moment she "accepted Christ." She's in one of the groups that doesn't accept anyone as Christian, even life-long Christians, unless they can proclaim their acceptance moment along with an appropriate "testimony." Can I tell you how much I hate testimonies?

I wonder if the movie was A Thief in the Night. It came out in 1972 but it was shown regularly in some churches after that. Another one came in 1978 called A Distant Thunder.

I had not heard of this before and also would be interested to know which movie it was.

Poor Michelle, I think A Thief in the Night sounds like a bad science-fiction flick, but if she actually believed this, it must have been pretty terrifying.

I thought it was Jim Bob and friend's visit that "saved" her?

Do they accept Amy as a Christian?

You would think she would name the movie. After all, it might get other people interested in watching it, and they might convert too. Wonder why she hasn't?

Amy claims "born again." Uncle Jim Bob even baptized her.

I had to watch A Thief in the Night in youth group. It was scary. I'm not surprised it scared Michelle if that's the movie that she saw.

Did Kirk Cameron have anything to do with this? ie Michelles fears :nenner: :nenner: I remember when Joshie and the gang were excited to meet old Kirk. They acted like he was some kind of God. I should get a copy of Deep Throat with Linda Lovelace ( who turned Christian after numerous sexual escapades) and send it to Michelle. Come to think of it maybe Linda Loveless Movies are a learning tool :pink-shock: for the Gothard Men when they go to those little retreats they have at their Christian Camps. Guns and Porn sounds about right for Jim Boob, Gil Bates, Joshie and all the rest of those scumbags who call themselves Men of God.

[bBvideo 560,340:20fj0wgq]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5CznQnoRR0[/bBvideo]Oh man...I had never heard of 'A Thief in the Night' and looked it up on youtube. It is amazing....ly terrible. Christian rock bands, complete with white go-go booted back-up singers! Hair, feathered like a the wings of the majestic emu! Acting and production values that makes me forget what I'm watching and makes me wonder 'Um...when does the sex start?', actors in desperate need of a dentist and orthodontist, a dude inexplicably bitten by a cobra (in Des Moines, Iowa??), a cowboy hat the size of which would make George W. jealous, and muttonchops, muttonchops, and more muttonchops!

I kept expecting Tom Servo, Gypsy, and Crow show up to watch it with me.

The Left Behind movies are too recent. It was something that came out when Michelle was in high school.

I'll put my money on A Thief in the Night, too. My mom went on and on in the early 1980s about how much of an impression it made on her. I haven't seen the movie , but I was afraid of being ~left behind~ for years, just based on her residual terror.

To this day, she frequently reminds me that the rapture can come at any time, like a thief in the night.

That movie sounds terrifying. My evangelical mother also loves to talk about us living in the end times: bad day on the stock market, hurricane in the Carribean, running out of toilet paper, etc. signal the end of our days! :wtf: Left Behind should be a banned phrase on FJ.

Is this one of those movies that's so bad it's unintentionally funny? Because that type of movie is right up my alley!

My sweet pup was diagnosed with a brain tumor in September. She passed away in my arms on Thanksgiving morning. It all happened so fast. She didn't want to eat anything the day before, but prior to that was ok. Knew it was near time and had booked an appointment to take her next week. However, she decided for me. She was only 8 and really was one of the best dogs. She never met a stranger, human or dog. Life isn't the same without her.

I made my first Granny Square! After nearly 30 years of knitting and crocheting this was a project I never did. Until now! I needed something to do with my rest of very colourful yarn and now I am very happy. I need to try different needles with my yarns but I think I found something nice for the future.
I needed only 3 different youtube videos until I found a person who explained the concept slowly and repetitive and with words I can understand. I hate when these tutorials make me feel dumb.

Someone please remind me to buy peanut butter. Seriously, I have been meaning to get some for at least three weeks, and everytime I remember, the shops are already closed!

We had to put our 14 year old dachshund, Trinket, down today.  She was fine Thursday, but by mid-morning yesterday, it was apparent that something was really wrong,  She had zero energy, lost her appetite and began walking into corners.  By morning I knew it was time for her to have her final visit to the vet.  She had lost about a pound and a half recently.  RIP, Trinket!

Horrific! A 6 year old boy was murdered, and mother severly injured, in a hate crime in Chicago. Reports say they are both Palestinian Muslims and were specifically targeted because of that. Thankfully the man who did it is in custody
      This is pure evil
