I have never seen the bride and groom walk down the aisle together in any of the many catholic weddings I have been in or attended (probably 20-25 over the years). My dad accompanied my sister down the aisle just last year. It might be a regional thing?

It is most likely regional thing. Should have mentioned that I grew up in the South of Germany, not the US. My bad. :embarrassed:

I disagree. They might seem boring but did you read their bio pages? They were witty and quirky. It sounds like they have fun.

Did someone say fun? That rules out any possible courtships with the Maxwells...

A family almost as boring as the Arndts, but with actual personalities and fewer penguins...

Re Catholic weddings and walking down the aisle: There's no "Who gives this woman to be married to this man?" in the liturgy, so I think that whether the bride comes down the aisle with her father or with her husband must be personal preference or local custom (non-religious in origin). In most American Catholic weddings, the bride is escorted by her father, but I've heard that the bride and groom enter together in many European ones.

I read those and three years of blog posts. My opinion stands.

What I thought the most interesting is that if you click on Melissa, it says that she really loves sewing and actually made that ugly tshirt wedding dress that Anna wore. What poor girl Anna must be that she can't even get out of the homemade clothes on her wedding day!

From their political blog:

Parents homeschooling through the local education agency (not through a church-related school) are required to have a high school diploma or GED to teach all grade levels, not just K–8. The old law required parents teaching grades 9–12 to have a bachelor’s degree or obtain an exemption of this requirement from the commissioner of education.

If they are homeschooling through a church, they can basically do what they want. But if they aren't through a school, the government actually monitors the homeschool to be sure the kids are learning. Shouldn't everyone be monitored to prevent the nonliterate high school students (even ones through a church)?

The youngest Smith, David: 11smiths.blogspot.com/2008/02/david.html just got engaged to Rachel Corbett: thecorbettfamily.org/rachel/ Rachel is otherwise known as his sister Anna's sister-in-law. What is it with Smiths and marrying into the same family?

Edit: Melissa, the oldest who just got married in February, is pregnant:

If the blog is the eleven Smiths, why are there only nine in the photo?

Anna is married, and Jonathan is at Oak Brook College of Law, so they were not at home for the photo. If you look at the side bar, you can see bios for the family.

They did seem like a sweet family until I read their political blog. It isn't that I am shocked or anything because it is pretty much what I expected but still. Also unlike the Maxwells they actually seem to get out of the house regularly and actually do things besides clean ceiling fans and make bean burritos.

UNACCREDITED Oak Brook School of Law (you can only take the California Bar and practice there.)

Oak Brook is by correspondence with only a week at the beginning of first year and a week or so at the end of the first year required physical attendance.

Brother Jonathan has started a blog where he discusses the Gothard scandal. http://jdsmith91.blogspot.com/2014/03/g ... abuse.html

Edit to add: In facebook, he adds: "Last month [February] OBCL removed Gothard as Honorary Chancellor (or whatever his title was), removed all IBLP members from it's board, and removed the Basic Seminar requirement for admission."

Yay, go Jonathan!

The more people speaking out against Gothard's abusive teachings and molestation of so many girls, the better!

I thought Brother Jonathan's blog post was incredible: he has tactfully, and in a non confrontational way, utterly destroyed every argument put forth by Gothard apologists. Every. Single. One. It was so good, I posted the blog link over on the Gothard Part Deux thread.

That said, the deep subtext was, God doesn't suffer fools, and if you believe Gothard is innocent after all this overwhelming evidence has been laid out before you, you are a fool. But like I said, nonconfrontational in a gosh, aw shucks kind of way, and letting the evidence speak for itself.

I couldn't find a topic on this family here or on Yuku, though it may exist. Someone in another thread mentioned the 11Smiths blog so I went to check it out.

Turns out these Smiths (definitely IFB) live near where I grew up and visit places I frequented as a child. There is even a photo of them outside a cemetery that contains a goodly number of my ancestors. But that is not why I could not stop reading.

Seems that 7 of the 11 are adult daughters, one married 4 years and the other (oldest) just married. There are two sons, one kind of cute in a redneck way and the other at Fake Brook Law School. So FIVE adult SAHDs and one adult SAHS. They seem to own a chicken farm and babysit various children, some of whom are girls in pants. They play boardgames. They kill chickens. They make stuff and put it on Pinterest. They go to church. They vote for Mike Huckabee.

They are so boring they make the Seven Sisters look like Naomi Campbell on a bender. I can't stop reading; I don't know why.

Hi David. I actually like your family. I read their blog from time to time. And although your sister married a man much older, they seem very happy together. A lot of your family members seem very nice.
