I just read in People online that Derick's Mom could not attend last evening rehearsal dinner because she has cancer :( I can feel for he and Jill; my husband's dad had passed when he was 16 and his Mom was battling cancer when we were married. I am praying for his Mom, that she can be with them today.

Here's the quote from People: I want to ask everyone to pray for my mom," Dillard told PEOPLE. "Anyone who has been through [cancer] knows what it is like, and if everyone could think of her, I know she would really appreciate it."

I hope she can attend.

I love that picture of them. How symbolic, he's helping her break free and she's running!

My mother-in-law was also battling cancer at our wedding. She was not sick when we got engaged and set our date, but she ended up being diagnosed a few months before our wedding. We debated postponing the wedding, but she wouldn't hear of it. I'm really glad we didn't postpone because she was doing fairly well at our wedding. Her health began declining shortly after our wedding and she passed away 8 months later. As I stated on the Jill's wedding thread, thinking about our wedding is always bittersweet (even 20 years later) because it was the last really good time we all had together. I really hope Derick's mom is well enough to be at the wedding today. He has such a small family anyway. With his dad already being dead, I think it will be really hard if his mom isn't able to be there with him either.

I hope she is able to attend and is able to fully recover. I was really glad from what we have seen of Derick's mom that she might be a good more normal mainstream influence on Jill as a wife and mom. I was hoping Jill would get Michelle advice & Derick's mom's advice and land somewhere in the middle. I also worry if she does pass away it might make Derick get further into the Duggars beliefs.

My husband came from a larger family then the Duggars. His dad passed away when he was 16 and his mom died very quickly(3 weeks after dx) from cancer when most of the kids were in their 20's. Some of the kids turned away from religion all together but some dove very far into religion.

Have we ever found out or know if Derick's dad death caused him to get more strict about his beliefs? The timing seems about right.

Me too. I thought it so sweet on the engagement episode when Cathy said she was going to spoil Jill. Michelle didn't look like she appreciated that comment, but Jill deserves some spoiling.

Cathy should spoil to her heart's content. Michelle needs to figure out at some point that the world doesn't revolve around her and her ideology. Jill is part of another family now, in addition to her own. How Derick, Cathy and the other members of his family feel should matter, whether Princess Michelle likes that or not.

Yeah, imo Michelle can kindly fuck off with her opinions. She's just never happy if the focus isn't completely on her. Jill has done everything her crazy parents asked of her for the last 23 years, she deserves a little spoiling and then some.

I'm happy for Jill and Derick. My heart sank when I heard about his mom. Hope she is responding well to treatment.

Wow, Derick has had a rough life. He and his family seem like such great people. I really hope they bring Jill more into their family rather than the Duggars pulling Derick in. I also hope all the best for his mom.

On a lighter note - that cereal on the registry thing is really funny. I guess we could interpret it as a weird fundie thing, but to me it seemed like a really normal silly twenty-something thing to do. I can totally see any of my friends doing that

I've been thinking about Cathy coming from the hospital to the ceremony. I'm wondering if she had cancer related surgery (as opposed to treatments); such as: mastectomy, biopsy, hysterectomy? Does anyone know?

I so want Cathy to be around for a long time. Derick needs his mom, and I feel like they will be so much better off with her as an influence.

I agree. Plus, I can imagine how much Derick and his brother need and want their Mom around for a very long time

Remember when Michelle was away from home because the baby was in a hospital far away? I never, never saw that woman happier. Its not that she is a harried mother of 19 and she got time away from her kids. It was entirely because the only other person the cameras were filming was an infant who couldn't talk.

Cathy did well for herself. I hope she encourages Jill to do the same, as I think Jill needs a successful female role model in her life to teach her that being a clone of her mother isn't the only good way to live.

I also hope she is a good influence on Jill- she can see what a woman is capable of. And I assume Jill is ok with her husband being under authority of a woman or nonreligious person? I wonder if she is ok with him working there for the time being, but she eventually expects him to start his own business.

He died of a heart attack in his sleep when Derick was a freshman in college.

That's scary. His dad dies at a young age, his mom has cancer and may not live to see old age. Doesn't bode well for Derick, Jill could become a young widow.

I don't see how they can even work for Wal Mart, considering their belief systems and connections with the Duggars. I was totally shocked when I heard it. Also considering the types of ''colorful'' people seen at wally world should be enough to send the fundies packing. Just visit peopleofwalmart dot com to see photos (also on FB)! There's enough Nike material on that website alone to send the fundies running and shrieking. (Like Hello Kitty panties clearly seen through white yoga pants on a 350 lb woman, or bum cheeks hanging out the bottom of super short shorts) I dunno... the whole thing just seems hypocritical.

Wally world has been caught plastering signs up around the Thanksgiving holidays asking for food donations - for the employees!! Why are the employees not paid an actual living wage where they can afford their own food and medical care? They don't even get adequate shift hours per week. Wal Mart asks for food donations for employees

Associates tried to set up a union and strike for Black Friday. What happened? Wally didn't like that and fought against them. Feds accuse WalMart of threatening employees

Now, if the fundies are supposed to be debt free, how can anyone associated with the Duggars live with themselves and sleep at night when they are knowingly participating in a giant corporation that doesn't give three straws about their employees. What happened to ''do onto others....''?

Even non-fundies deserve the right to be debt-free and have access to medical care, without having to choose between good food, electricity, shelter and being able to afford to see a doctor. :angry-banghead:

Good!! I'm pulling for Cathy. I hope Derick gets many more years with his mom and that Jill gets to see what a real mom is like!
