Duggars By the Dozen - General Discussion - Part 7

I doubt they would do any maintenance downstairs. I wasn't sheltered and I knew people shaved and waxed their lady bits, but it wasn't until I was 16 at boarding school (after boarding for two years already) that i realised how common it was. for girls as sheltered as them, I can't imagine they would have any idea that it is something that is done.

i can't imagine they even shave their legs/underarms.

They shave their legs and under their arms, you can tell cause we have seen them wear short sleeves and skirts that show their legs.

I don't know whether they shave anywhere else, but its not like their parents would know if they did. But I imagine for a fundie, touching down there is a huge sin.

I'm sure Jill and Jana (and Jessa since she apparently attends births to photograph them?) are at least aware of pubic hair grooming because they see women who I'm assuming aren't all sheltered fundies. Whether they do it or not, who knows. I know I started way back when I started menstruating--before I knew that anyone did that--because since I used pads back then it felt cleaner.

I apologize, but what the fuckity fuck?

 Oh god, that mental image! I'm pretty sure she means inserting the cup in the champagne flute to visualize how it should be inserted. There's a youtube video demonstrating that.

Tampons are a no no. You have to have your hymen in contact for your husband. As for shaving their privates I thought it. Touching yourself down there is dirty and a sin.

??WTF? Tampons do NOT break a hymen. If you were just being sarcastic that is fine, but in no way do they physically do that. YES, fundies and other religions and groups believe tampons are ebil, but if a hymen breaks when inserting a tampon - you're doing it wrong.

I'm hoping she was being sarcastic as well. Tampons are perfectly safe for virgins. Hymens can break doing anything - playing tennis, riding a bike, climbing a fence. It's not that difficult. But yeah, I'm sure fundies believe it's akin to having sex. The duggars (and religious people in general) aren't even allowed to masturbate. There's no way they're allowed to shave or use tampons. Or even a diva cup for that matter.

Gothard forbids tampons. It makes a young virginal girl "impure" A tampon goes inside your body. It risks breaking your hymen, even if having a hymen proves nothing. The hymen can break doing anything. So it's "bad" to put it up there before you've had sex.

Ok I feel a lot better. But I still like my disposable tampons! :wink-kitty: I've never even heard of a diva cup.

Are women who are giving birth really that well groomed? My daughter was born in June and I could barely shave my legs with my huge belly little less anything else.

I certainly wasn't. But I stopped shaving all together by the time my son was born. At one point they used to shave you bc they were crazy and thought moms body would infect the baby with stuff on her pubic hair :cray-cray: I'm pretty certain Michelle was shaved for Josh.

Was it at all visible when Anna gave birth?

I would never have been able to reach around my belly to shave when I was full term, but that didn't mean I hadn't kept up with my bikini waxes!

(If you stop, it hurts just as bad as the first time once you start again.)

I grew up in a very sexually open household. (Example: At age 12, I asked my mother was a rim job was cause I heard the phrase in a movie and she told me calmly with a factual approach what it was). Yet, I hadn't even considered shaving until I was like 16. I started doing it cause I was dating a girl and, well, ya know. My mom had no idea I had a girlfriend though and she asked why I was shaved (one bathroom house!) and I was like "Uhh....so it doesn't get gross and sweaty during softball games" (which was actually a bonus benefit).

I wonder if these girls do this shit all the time. I especially wonder if they masturbate. I know they're not allowed to by party lines but it is something that some girls discover on accident.

I assume some of this start shaving after marriage -- their husbands get to choose how they wear their hair, right?

It's a thing for a lot of women. My sister got a full brazilian before giving birth, and when her OB saw her, he laughed and said, "Why do women do that? You don't think birth will be painful enough?" (He said it totally playfully--not rude at all--and he and my sister had a good rapport.)

Totally off topic but I have been wondering this for awhile. I doubt anyone would know but do you suppose the older girls shave or shape their pubic hair? I remember specifically that I did not realize other girls shaved their nether regions completely until I was 14 and went skinny dipping with some friend in our pool at night and they were bare. I had many friends only shave once they found out their peers were doing it. With their emphasis on modesty I am always curious as to what sort of intimate details are discussed amongst the sisters or their friends? Any thoughts or am I the only one who wonders this?

In addition, what about feminine products? tampons allowed? Im not familiar with any sort of fundie practices in these areas.

Send those girls to the "vagina Booth"

They probably think only harlots and porn stars shave down there.

OK, I have to share a story I heard recently. I'm in my mid-40s, and a similarly-aged friend told me about a friend of hers (also our age) who was back on the dating scene after a divorce. She's had a few dates with younger men (in their 30s, I guess). Anyway, these guys... who I guess normally date women in their 20s and 30s... have all been surprised that she's... got hair there :-). I didn't realize the younger women were all ... um... landscaping so completely... ;-).... as opposed to us middle-aged ladies who do a little weed-whacking around the edges but leave the lawn in place...

I think it really depends on where you are, too. I didn't realize so many women didn't shave until I went to college. It was the norm there to not shave anything. At all. I finally stopped shaving when I was 22. And honestly, I prefer it. Shaving takes so much time and effort. Totally not worth it. At least for me. Occasionally I'll shave my underarms for a special event (I shaved for my friends wedding. She never said anything but I knew it bothered it and since she wasn't a complete rude bitch about it like some people, I volunteered.) but I find that tedious as well. I have more important things to worry about.

Keeping up with my children and the house and my projects and my reading and myself is hard enough sometimes. If I have the time to take a relaxing bath, I want to do just that - take a bath. I can't imagine fundie women - who arguably are busier than I am* with more children and baking bread from scratch everyday and praising Jesus and the bible and submitting their husbands - even have the time or energy for shaving.

*I stay home and homeschool my children as well, but their favourite foods are peanut butter sandwiches and pasta, both of which can be made quite easily and quickly. I don't make bread all the time and I never make pasta. I have a dishwasher and a washing machine and I do let my kids watch some TV. Plus I only have two, so I'm guessing I'm not AS busy as a fundie woman without teenage daughters.

The Duggars wedding nights must be so awkward! Going from not kissing, even holding hands, to full on f******. How weird.

The more I think about this, the more I think it's a lot like a first date that ends in sex. You hold hands for the time (putting on rings) and then make out (you may kiss the bride) and then go to dinner where more hand holding and kissing happens (reception) and then you go back to the other person's house and have sex (wedding night). Of course, people who have a first date like this usually have already experienced these things, but still. Since they're never allowed to be alone together, it pretty much is the first date.

Don't discount the possibility that those men's expectations came from watching porn and not from real life experience with actual women. Not to get all TMI, but I'm in my early 30s and my, err, personal style is pretty variable, and I've never been with a man who commented on the presence of hair.

Unfortunately, I have. And they're pretty dickish about it, too. The porn industry has really ruined sex for a lot of people. So many men think that as soon as they penetrate, she's orgasming. I've actually heard of many women in their 20s and 30s refusing to date men their own age bc "porn has ruined them". They just expect too much. From the women and themselves. It's quite sad, really.

True. I've actually had this kind of thing happen with a few guys I was involved with -- the usual insecurities -- "My dick isn't big enough" or "I don't last long enough" or "I'm not [whatever] enough." Normally I tell them that real sex just isn't like that and I either sit with them and find some professional porn that is genuine (rare, but possible) or amateur/homemade porn and watch it with them.

I've never been with a guy who commented negatively but I have been with some that have gently asked me to shave because they don't like the sensation. As long as they're not jerks, that's fine. If it it worth any hope though, I've never heard a partner or male friend act like pubic hair was disgusting, they just refer to it as a variable they don't care about either way or one that they prefer one way or another but is never a dealbreaker.

The Duggars are allowed to hold hands during engagement. The ring on the finger is not the first time they will hold hands.
