Article:Leave the DUggars Alone

I thought this needed its own thread. This is the second article seen in which the writer thinks the Duggars are being accused of the wrong. The article on Daily Beast never accused the Duggars of anything. It just pointed out the Duggars associated with Phillips and still associate with Gothard. They still promote this lifestyle. And ,of course, it ends with the tiresome the Duggar kids are not in jail and running the streets. If Obama got accused of associating with such people, conservative Christian GOP would call for his impeachment.

I've seen a number of comments on various articles like this. Essentially, why are people trying to tie the Duggars to all these scandals when they are innocent little lambs and not involved at all. I have seen some pretty good responses, but leg humpers are not going to get it regardless of how good the response may be. Hopefully, the public at large that only sees the Duggars on tv may "get it" though.

I'll leave the Duggars alone when Josh stops working for a hate group whose mission it is to have laws change to reflect their religious beliefs.

I will also leave them alone when they stop promoting the heresy of Gothardism within the Christian community.

Are we cool now?

Leave them alone yet they're selling books, traveling, on a tv show, and have their personal lives public :hand:

Exactly. And it's not just that they're putting their lives out there for everyone to see, it's that they're deliberately courting attention to be able to promote their agenda.

I'll leave them alone when they stop trying to determine what women should do with their bodies and their sexuality. You wanna have a zillion kids? Fine. But stop insisting that we need to do the same and conduct our sexuality in a manner that is in accordance with your personal standards.

As women, our bodies, our uteri, our business - not yours, Duggars.

Well, the Duggars appeared at Dougie's Titanic shindig (right?) and Michelle received an award from him at the Baby Conference. They are absolutely the face of Bill Gothard's ATI; they have sent their daughters to his indoctrination camps and now he is accused of sexual impropriety with other young women in similar positions.

Yes, it's not appropriate to insinuate that the Duggars are responsible for sex crimes if there is no proof of that, but they should be asked why they support and use their fame to promote these kind of men. They always claim that they agreed to do their show as long as they didn't have to hide their faith, but they do their best to hide the specifics of it at every opportunity. If they want to be honest about their beliefs, answer a damn question once in awhile.

They opened their lives to cameras and love every second of it. There are consequences to televising your life. Nobody has to like you, want to watch you, or have one nice thing to say about you.

You don't lay down in the middle of the street and then claim you're being harassed/bothered when a truck runs you over.

I'm sorry, but I couldn't continue after the bit about their marriage being "tender and loving." Yea, it's tender and loving all over the minigolf course.

Also, when the page loaded, I got a pop up that said we need to "return to conservative news" or something like that and listed Fox as too liberal. FOX. IS TOO LIBERAL. *sigh*

The Duggars actively promoted both organizations. I hold people responsible for the products they promote.

Can I ask for a link or info about when the Duggars have been promoting Gothard and Phillips? I haven't seen anything, but I haven't been looking. My impression was that they continue to support ATI since that is their homeschool program of choice, but I never got the impression that they were standing up for Gothard. I feel like that would be similar to a situation where I attended a church, and the pastor was found to be guilty of adultery. Then would I be guilty of wrongdoing for staying in the church if the pastor stepped down/was removed from his position? I don't think so. In fact, I think it would say a lot about me if I left the church and my beliefs all because of a specific person who didn't live up to the standards they were setting forth. If I still believed in those standards, you better bet I'd continue believing in them - not in the person that fell short. To me it seems silly to expect them to change their belief system because 1 man (who happened to be running the whole darn thing, I know) was found to be sinful and untrustworthy. I actually thought I saw an interview where Jim Bob basically said this - that they aren't worried about 1 person - they are worried about God and their faith. I realize that they all probably put Gothard on wayyyy too high a pedestal, but I think it shows their beliefs are strong and not based just on Gothard if they stick with it when he is gone. All this can be taken with a grain of salt of course since as I mentioned, I haven't done a ton of research. I would be totally shocked if they were actually sticking up for Gothard and Phillips (as opposed to the name of their belief system)

Of course that belief system could never have been setup to groom victims or anything. If the inventor of the program claiming to be a lifelong virgin giving advice on running a marriage how to raise your children while i those said children it may be time for a change. False prophets and all

All you have to do is Google and you find plenty of associations. Phillips was the one who gave Michelle her Mother of the Year award. They are key speakers at most ATI events. ATI consists of more than just homeschooling. It hosts seminars and 'indoctrination' camps. While they are not standing up for any of these men, they still associate with them indirectly or directly. The thing is they take many of their beliefs from these men and the Christian Fundamentalism views the men promote. Many of these teachings are based on legalism and preferences and not anything biblical. They are following man-made institutions which seek to control and destroy This site has plenty of info on Gothard. http://www.recoveringgrace.org/

Bullshit the Duggars aren't involved. I fell down this rabbit hole directly from links on their website. ATIA, Vision Forum, Wall Builders. I was a constiuent in Duggar's district trying to figure out where the hell he was coming from on the political front.

So michelle and bob can have as many kids and can have a choice what they do but others can't? Hypocrites

Aren't the Duggars/Bates etc.,complicit by assoc. in this whole thing? By not taking a stand one way or the other, aren't they guilty by association? That's the way I see it.

If I were even remotely involved with either of these men and their affiliations, you can bet I darn well would speak out,and let everyone know I DO NOT agree with what was done to these young girls!

It's not just a matter of saving face,it's a matter of doing the right thing.

It's time for the empire Gothard built to fall, and high time his followers face the music.

Gothard IS ATI, you can't separate him from it. ATI isn't just a "homeschool program of choice", it is an entire lifestyle that borders on being a cult. By supporting ATI they are supporting Gothard. Their belief systems and lifestyle were designed by Gothard and this belief system made all these horrible things possible. So even if they did suddenly decide to throw Gothard under the bus(which they have not even spoken out against him at all, if they really were no longer supporting him they would have said something negative about him) just by supporting ATI they are supporting his dangerous belief system.

On the topic of the Duggars and Gothard, I remember it was said that Jana was going to be doing an internship at the Gothard HQ near Chicago. But it seems she didn't last or she never went. I wonder if shit went down there.

When was this? Hopefully it was recent enough for them to have heard that Gothard is a dirty, foot fetishizing pervert and stop her from going :( I don't want Jana to have been one of his victims :(

My sweet pup was diagnosed with a brain tumor in September. She passed away in my arms on Thanksgiving morning. It all happened so fast. She didn't want to eat anything the day before, but prior to that was ok. Knew it was near time and had booked an appointment to take her next week. However, she decided for me. She was only 8 and really was one of the best dogs. She never met a stranger, human or dog. Life isn't the same without her.

I made my first Granny Square! After nearly 30 years of knitting and crocheting this was a project I never did. Until now! I needed something to do with my rest of very colourful yarn and now I am very happy. I need to try different needles with my yarns but I think I found something nice for the future.
I needed only 3 different youtube videos until I found a person who explained the concept slowly and repetitive and with words I can understand. I hate when these tutorials make me feel dumb.

We had to put our 14 year old dachshund, Trinket, down today.  She was fine Thursday, but by mid-morning yesterday, it was apparent that something was really wrong,  She had zero energy, lost her appetite and began walking into corners.  By morning I knew it was time for her to have her final visit to the vet.  She had lost about a pound and a half recently.  RIP, Trinket!

Horrific! A 6 year old boy was murdered, and mother severly injured, in a hate crime in Chicago. Reports say they are both Palestinian Muslims and were specifically targeted because of that. Thankfully the man who did it is in custody
      This is pure evil
