I wonder why. The forums will remain open until May 31st. I guess won't I have to choose between that and FJ. FJ is better anyway!

The reason for the closing down was pretty basic: Despite creating laudable sites, there was still not enough traffic and, therefore, a difficulty monetizing the properties, especially in the wake of increased competition since the pair were first founded.

So what happens to the huge amount of content in the archives of both DailyCandy and TWoP? It will all be saved in the digital ether, but not be available to the public. One small caveat that should please no one regardless: TWoP’s popular user forums will be kept open until May 31.

Sounds to me like if you want access to anything over there, you should make your own backup now.

They should have toned down the heavy handed moderation , maybe then they would have been getting enough traffic to stay open

As far as "why," I really think the recaps had gotten worse in recent years. The over-reliance on Jacob Clifton, aka Mr. Dramarama, was really irritating, as one example.

TelevisionWithoutPity.com will cease all editorial operations on April 4 and the site will be taken offline.

However, the forums will remain open until May 31 to continue to provide our members with a place to debate, discuss and deride all the shows we love and love to hate.

Obviously, we are all sad about this, but we are keeping the forums open for a grace period so that you can contact your fellow posters and perhaps find new places to continue your conversations. There may be some technical glitches going forward as most of the site is shut down, and we ask for your patience as we figure things out.

I popped back in here because of TWOP closing. Free Jinger is an offshoot and that is how I got here. :) I wanted to see what you all were saying, but I guess I knew before you.

Their insane rules are why I never created an account. I think it's because their message board rules and mods were so fucking anal that no one wanted to buy the property.

I found FJ through the site as well (I went all the way back to Dawson's Wrap). Once Bravo took over I kinda lost interest.

I don't like the mods at TWoP, but I am really rather annoyed about this. I like going back and reading recaps of shows that ended awhile ago. I also found FJ through TWoP.

Their constant system "upgrades" made it unusable for increasingly large amounts of time. In addition to the heavy moderation, they had other policies that made it harder to post. Recently, they instituted a new thing where they automatically made any thread that hadn't had a post in a year into a "read-only thread." If you wanted to post in one of those threads, you had to PM a mod. That didn't make it easy if you recently discovered an older show and wanted to discuss it, or you wanted to post news about an older show coming out on DVD.

Still, I am upset about this. It's part of my evening ritual to check the threads after new episodes of shows I like, and the old 7th Heaven recaps cheer me up on a bad day.

I haven't read there regularly in a long time, I felt the overall quality of the reviews went down a lot once they sold to Bravo and they started trying to do far too many shows. They just weren't funny anymore. But it was my first "Internet home", if you will, and the first forum I really participated in regularly. I loved The Amazing Race recaps (GOD IS IN THE TUB) and the early American Idol ones. So I'm a little sad about its passing.

I recently booted my college laptop (purchased circa 1999) after I found it in a box of junk I was cleaning out and it has TWOP wallpaper and screensaver. So that tells you how much time I wasted on there, exactly, at one point in my life.

So, I don't post often, but figured I'd post about television without pity closing down. Even though I've stopped participating in forums a while ago, I still feel nostalgia at the idea that TWOP is going to be gone for good. TWOP introduced me to freejinger, and I have enjoyed many hours of reading on these forums. I learned a lot too.

I used to love reading the recaps of reality tv shows on TWOP, they made me laugh when my life was miserable.

I guess it's time for it to close down, the moderators went crazy and became so full of themselves, and the internet world changed.

I still feel sad, though.

It takes a while to vet new registrations. They need to just be patient for a few days.

With the news of the site closing, I'm setting up this thread so that we can gather ideas about where else to find show discussions and/or recaps (for shows that I didn't set up a specific thread for). Please keep that discussion out of the thread.

Also, don't do any bashing of the site or our corporate parent, because you'll be banned. If you criticized the host at a party, you'd probably be thrown out. Same here. Don't rehash the decision, either—what's done is done.
