Another Stupid Comment from A Duggar Humper

How is the community service that the Duggars do BS?

When the Duggars volunteer, they do it to either spread Gothardism or advertise themselves. When they go to El Salvador, it's to spread the gospel according to Gothard and hand out Bibles, not to bring anything that would actually aid in the health and well-being of the El Salvadorians (who are already Christian, albeit to wrong kind to the Duggars). On another occasion, they were helping a group called Voice of the Martyrs, whose main purpose is sending unsolicited Bibles to people living in non-Christian countries. When they do things like work or the soup kitchen in DC or work on the Habitat for Humanity house, all of the kids have to be there, including the small children who are too young to work. This forces other volunteers to be diverted from their own work to look after the kids. Staying true to form, the Duggars will show up late, dress inappropriately for the work at hand, and quit early.

Most of the volunteering done by the Duggars seems to be related to filming or photo ops.

If they'd have something on the blog about serving at a food pantry or soup kitchen that was never mentioned on the show, it would help dispel the idea the show leaves that they only do charitable acts for filming.

The Duggars did the charity thing for Arkansas Children's Hospital to gloat about how much they give back to others. They're famewhores. Nothing more.

And the things that they DO volunteer or speak at that without filming are usually anti-abortion rallies or campaigns for extremely right-wing politicians.

I would assume that the soup kitchens and food pantries and Habitat for Humanity would much prefer to have their names mentioned. The value to charities in having the Duggar's volunteer isn't so much the actual physical labor, it's the free publicity and public awareness that comes from having a celebrity promote your cause. Having a couple of older Duggars come and donate a few hours with no publicity is a big waste of resources when you can have free marketing in the form of a bunch of cute little kids helping out and being shown on a nation wide program. I'm sure the charities are more than willing to put up with the hassle of having toddlers underfoot for a few hours in exchange for all that free advertising. Any non-profit manager that turned down that kind of exposure would be a complete idiot. Exposure means both increased donations and an increase in volunteers.

The Duggars, however, could do both and then would be standing behind the principles they say they support and not look solely like fame whores.

this article really explains it well

http://www.lovingspirituality.com/how-e ... istianity/

In the last 50 years a “brand†of Christianity has grown up that has absolutely nothing to do with the actual teachings of Jesus and the Apostles, yet has come, for many in America, to be the icon of the Christian faith — Evangelical Christianity. As a committed Orthodox Christian and a Spiritual Person, I have some very real problems with the identification of Christianity with Evangelicals, mostly because Evangelicals are not teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, or anything close to it.

There are many areas in which Evangelicals betray the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Here are 14 of them.

1). Militarism. Virtually all Evangelical Churches are highly militaristic, celebrating “the troops†and the military as the highest service one can render to one’s fellow humans. This, of course, is the exact opposite of what Jesus and the Apostles taught. Jesus’ teaching was unequivocally non-violent in nature.

This doesn’t mean that Jesus would have necessarily disapproved of a country or people protecting themselves with a military force sufficient to do so. But Jesus would have certainly condemned the way the American military is used — to project our power and impose our will on others.

2). Materialism. Evangelicals are highly materialistic as a group, even preaching that Jesus wants everyone to be rich. This is also the opposite of the teachings of Jesus and the Apostles. The Apostle James warned, in his Epistle, not to trust the rich, and not to give them preference. This is exactly what Evangelicals do. Evangelicals tend to follow the non-Christian teaching of the Calvinists, seeing material wealth to be God’s greatest blessing, and a sign of God’s favor. Jesus, of course, said just the opposite, indicating that it was nearly impossible for a wealthy person to enter the Kingdom of Heaven, and telling St. Joseph of Arimathea to go and sell his extensive possessions and give to the poor. Jesus made it very clear that someone cannot serve both God and money.

This is exactly the opposite of the Evangelical cry of “Greed is good!†Greed, historically in the Christian Church, has been seen as one of the seven deadly sins….at least equal to lust, which is the only “sin†that Evangelicals can seem to think about…night and day and night and day…and night.

3). Hatred for the poor. Evangelicals tend, as a group, to despise the poor. They consistently, as a political bloc, fight welfare, subsidies to schools, jobs programs, food stamps, Medicaid, and everything else that they see as “socialist.†And while Evangelicals tend to be incredibly generous in their Sunday collection plates, the vast majority of their gifts go to build mega-Churches, not to help the poor.

Jesus was very clear about this. He specifically ordered that we feed the hungry, clothe the naked, house the homeless, visit the prisoners, heal the sick and generally take care of our fellow human beings who are not as fortunate as we are. And, in a warning to Evangelicals, he was very clear that those who did not do this would not enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

Jesus loved the anawain, or those who were cast off, oppressed and helpless, not the “pillars of the community.†Considering the judgmental nature of most of the “pillars of the community†one can understand why, once one reads the Gospels and, therein, gains an understanding of Jesus.

Of course, the right wingnut clown Glenn Beck is the disdainer-in-chief of the poor, going so far as to tell his brainless viewers to leave churches that preach Social Justice…which, of course, is exactly what Jesus preached. Yet Evangelicals are much more likely to watch Beck and listen Limbaugh, et. al. than the general run of American…further increasing their hatred for the very people Jesus loved the most. Now, how is this Christian??

4). Self-sufficiency. Evangelicals are the most likely of Christians to preach a “gospel†of self-sufficiency. This is exactly the opposite of what Jesus preached. Jesus wanted people to be “as little children,†and totally dependent on God. In fact, Jesus said that, if we did not approach the Father this way, we could not enter the Kingdom of God.

Evangelicals (and many so-called “spiritual peopleâ€) teach that we are to pull ourselves up by our own bootstraps, and disdain anyone who needs help. Again, this is the opposite of what the Gospel of Jesus Christ teaches. The Gospel teaches that we are to be radically dependent, both on God and on one another. This is anathema to Evangelical teaching. to do so. But Jesus would have certainly condemned the way the American military is used — to project our power and impose our will on others.

Of course they could, and for all we know they do. But I would bet a large amount of money that the charities they volunteer for encourage them to include it on the show. That's just wisely utilizing volunteers talents. Personally I think it would be more selfish to insist on volunteering anonymously. Obviously still good to volunteer, and they might have good reasons to keep it quiet, but overall if they want to benefit the charity as much as possible, it will probably involve making it public.

No wonder the kids act like teens when they get married. That's their maturity level. They were never allowed to have real teenage years and feelings, so they act on it when they marry. This is normal. Not! Smuggar and Anna have been married for over five years, and have three kids. They haven't matured. Anna still looks at Smuggar with that same glazed eye look. it's scary.

She's brainwashed.

How are they getting soup kitchens to allow kids? Where I volunteer, there's a strict rule about no kinds under 13 because of the risks involved.

Most of the teens I know are lovey people (I don't yet have any of my own and I understand they act differently at home) who are smart, articulate and care deeply about making a difference in this world. If US teens are truly the worst in the world, then maybe we should look at the rest of the world and see what we're doing wrong. The rest of the world, like, say, the Netherlands where promoting the type of discipline used by the Duggars is against the law.

I agree! The teens I know do love their technology. But they also know when to put the phones down and are generally sweet.

I'd rather get the rebellious phase out of my system in my mid to late teens (earlier would've been better, bt whatevs.) than have to wait until my early to mod twenties, which is what I am seeing from all these repressed peoples, and children who were forced to grow up too quickly.

This comment seems typical of the leg humpers. Maybe a little more extreme but I wouldn't automatically call "troll" post on it. There are so many people who think in such black and white terms - that teens today are troubled, etc. There have always been those people. Personally, I think that many of "today's" teenagers are ridiculously sheltered and overly parented. However, I know that it's not "all" teens, and there are also lots of teens who are doing drugs and being hellions. There are extremes at both ends and plenty of smart, capable, independent teens as well. There is no one-size-fits all approach to parenting and/or culture. There is no reason to think that every teen other than the Duggars is going to hell in a handbasket.
