Ban Bossy... Another reason fundies will hate Girl Scouts

Using the term "Ban Bossy" in this context is just a bit of alliterative shorthand that they put on the campaign to label it. It doesn't actually mean they are trying to get people to quit using the word bossy (they also use aggressive, angry and "too ambitious" if you want examples of other words). If you actually read the website, the leadership tips to girls have nothing to do with being domineering, but with actually being a good leader. They include things like: raise your hand and speak up in class, be confident, challenge yourself, ask for help/advice when you need it, improve communication skills, etc. No one is trying to teach kids to be bossy...why on earth would they want that?

OTOH, if it honestly HAD to be one way or another, I'd rather see girls err on the side of "bossy" rather than be overly meek and compliant. It takes kids (boys and girls) awhile to really understand the distinctions of a good leader. Lots of adults don't even understand it, which is why many of us end up with terrible bosses. But I think it's easier to modify existing leadership skills than rebuild years of beaten-down self-esteem.
