Vomit inducing yahoo article on Jessa Duggar's Courtship

This showed up on the front page of yahoos site. I read it and wanted to throw up and my eyes rolled out of my head.

Not breaking because its Yahoo ( seriously, how did this get front page on their site?)

http://shine.yahoo.com/parenting/jessa- ... 00802.html

According to the author, being under a headship ( whether you like it or not), not being able to pursue higher education, not being allowed to LEAVE THE HOUSE ALONE at age 20 is more in line with feminism than a pop star choosing to wear little clothing and to have sexually themed performances.

Seriously. The author said Jessa Duggar was more of a feminist than Miley Cyrus.

Yes, not being allowed to make your own decisions and deferring to the 'greater male sex' is the epitome of feminism.

It really makes me sad that women in this day and age ( who were not born/brainwashed into the cult) think like this. However I think if the author was truly forced to live Michelle or Jessa's life for a week she would go running for the hills.

Ugh...once again fundagelicals with the either/or--because there is no middle ground between acting like Miley Cyrus and not holding hands prior to marriage. :angry-banghead:

The RSOC woman posted an article on her blog titled "Will Jana, Jill, Jessa, and Jinger marry? Will MY kids marry?" It was also vomit inducing. She seems like a nice enough woman, but her Duggar worship is nauseating.

I found it insulting that she objectified Jessa by calling her the prettiest of her sisters and implying that most others feel the same way. All of the Duggar daughters are lovely. Really, who's going around saying this except for the author?

Is this the article with Ben and Jessa posing like characters from Twilight? Why won't they just admit they don't trust their kids? Going out alone with NO chaperone and still managing to not have sex or kiss will be a true test to this "self control" they keep bragging about. I've read fundie blogs where the couples actually went out alone for a few months and still remained virgins. Of course we know stories like that are "rare" because most of the fundies we snark on always has someone close by during courtship. My point is they have NO bragging rights with me for staying "pure" because someone is ALWAYS around. It was Josh's idea to save the 1st kiss for marriage. After that, his sisters thought it would be a good idea as well. Suppose he had wanted to just kiss Anna's hand or cheek? If he had a longer engagement...could he have held out longer? It's easy for fundies to brag about this because courtships and engagements happen so quickly. So maybe it's a breeze to wait a month or two before kissing for the 1st time...and all the other "firsts" that follow. Sorry for all the rambling, but I'm getting SO sick of these people getting praise for something they have yet to prove! Let them go out alone and have private conversations. Let them prove to you they are capable of "self control" on their own. If JB was confident, he would allow this.

I also don't get the Miley Cyrus hate. She isn't any worse than the Christina Aguilara of early 2000s ( maybe a little a little more raunchy) but she's living her life and making her own choices...unlike some right wing christian groups who do all they can to keep women barefoot and pregnant.

I'd take 1000 Mileys over any 1 michelle duggars

Why the Miley Cyrus hate but not the Bristol Palin hate?

Bristol Palin paid for her sin by being a single mother. Miley Cyrus fucks without consequences.

So, according to the article women are either chaste or sluts. Yahoo, why did you allow this to be posted?

The people in the comments section are so fucking ignorant of how destructive this shit is.

And here's how it would go if one of us explained that the Duggars are in a cult:

"Just because Bill Gothard molested some teens it doesn't mean the Duggars aren't good people/don't have a strong faith/mistreat their children!!!!!! ELEBENTY!!1!"

"ATI isn't a cult, it's a wonderful homeschooling curriculum for those who don't want their daughters to grow up to be Miley Cyrus and their sons to be Justin Bieber!"

"Bill Gothard didn't molest anyone, it's the EBIL FEMINISTS who want us to believe that!"

This is like one of those puzzle questions. Would you rather....? I'm having trouble deciding whether I'd choose to expose my kids to ATI or have them turn out like obnoxious Bieber. Gahhh! Both options are full of parental fail.

This is basically the old "Madonna/Whore"-dichotomy ("can everybody say DICK-otomy!") in new framing, which doesn't make it anymore right or true. Ofcourse there are a myriad other ways to be a woman than to be a Jessa Duggar or a Miley Cyrus.

But I do agree with this one little snippet:

"Embracing the objectification of women doesn't make you clever. You are still objectified, and that gets to the heart of what I want to teach my kids."

I'm so sick of this idea that seems to permeate pop-culture at the moment that everything a woman does is "feminist", no it is not and a choice is not necessarily valid just because someone made it.

For a good piece on the problems of "sex-positive feminism" or "choice feminism":

or this one about "Cool Girl feminism" and aligning yourself with the patriarchy:

(Not breaking links as it is a news site, please correct if wrong)

I am an old woman who loves classical music. I watched Miley Cyrus in an interview with 'Graham Norton' and I absolutely adore her!! Perhaps she doesn't make wise decisions, I don't know about that, but at least she is a very original and fun spirit!!

This!! It's like people who are impressed I gave birth without drugs, Hello! I had a home birth. It wasn't like my MW carried an epidural kit in her car. I'm much more impressed with those who go drug free in a hospital when they're practically begging to give you the good stuff.

It cant be empowering for Jessa if it wasn't her choice. If she had decided on her own not to have sex or even kiss before marriage, good for her, but she did not decide that. Her parents may claim they let her decide, but it was a very loaded choice-they tell the kids that people who have sex and kiss before marriage are impure, slutty evil people who have ruined themselves for their husband, and courtships are good and keep your purity and are what God wants. If Jessa decided that she did not want a courtship, she wanted to kiss Ben before marriage and go on dates alone, I think her parents would be mad at her, or at least judge her horribly and call her a slut in front of her siblings and everyone she knows.

I don't understand this fundie logic. If babies are a blessing, then how is getting pregnant from premarital sex getting what you deserve?

I saw the article this morning and was just so  And the comments I saw showed how people are still taken in by the "wholesome Christian family" schtick and have really no idea what they are really about. Somehow I think there's a few that would stop the fangirling in a heartbeat if they really knew.

Totally this. The parents carry on about how this is her choice but considering her upbringing by parents who have reinforced negative ideas about sex and romance before marriage, about purity, about saving oneself for marriage, then how is that even close to a choice? In fact, it's really a subtle form of coersion by the parents, they don't need to openly push their kids into toeing the line, they ensure it by drumming it into their kids over the years. And coersion is not the same as free choice.

Trust me I despise Bristol Palin. Miley I don't care one way or another. At least Miley isn't preaching abstinence while fucking 3 guys in a five night span.

Because babies are the natural consequence of sex. If you have sex(even with contraception, because many of them teach that it doesn't work--and to be fair, no method is 100% effective)you should expect to get pregnant. Play with fire, and you will get burned.

I like her too. She's passionate about her music, if nothing else. She also has great stage presence imo and her laugh is infectious.

Don't forget Bristol's speaking fee for spouting that shit. She didn't repledge her purity to the lord, she went to the plastic surgeon and had vaginal rejuvination.

My sweet pup was diagnosed with a brain tumor in September. She passed away in my arms on Thanksgiving morning. It all happened so fast. She didn't want to eat anything the day before, but prior to that was ok. Knew it was near time and had booked an appointment to take her next week. However, she decided for me. She was only 8 and really was one of the best dogs. She never met a stranger, human or dog. Life isn't the same without her.

I made my first Granny Square! After nearly 30 years of knitting and crocheting this was a project I never did. Until now! I needed something to do with my rest of very colourful yarn and now I am very happy. I need to try different needles with my yarns but I think I found something nice for the future.
I needed only 3 different youtube videos until I found a person who explained the concept slowly and repetitive and with words I can understand. I hate when these tutorials make me feel dumb.

We had to put our 14 year old dachshund, Trinket, down today.  She was fine Thursday, but by mid-morning yesterday, it was apparent that something was really wrong,  She had zero energy, lost her appetite and began walking into corners.  By morning I knew it was time for her to have her final visit to the vet.  She had lost about a pound and a half recently.  RIP, Trinket!

Horrific! A 6 year old boy was murdered, and mother severly injured, in a hate crime in Chicago. Reports say they are both Palestinian Muslims and were specifically targeted because of that. Thankfully the man who did it is in custody
      This is pure evil
