Feminism is Wrong Because of Jesus

But, ironically, as women, He set us free in another way too. Many feminists rant about the oppression biblical teaching places upon women; but, Christianity is what freed us from that oppression! Why then would we want to place upon ourselves newly forged chains of egalitarianism? Chains that strip us of the very protection that Jesus intended us to have. While claiming freedom and equality, the irony of the deception is that they are heading for slavery!

Those of you who are religious can take on the writer's take on scripture. She doesn't quote any feminist who is 'ranting' against Christianity so it is impossible to know what the context of her complaint is. Of course, being vague prevents people from arguing against her.

I'd like an example how wanting equality will take someone-anyone- into slavery

As a result of the teachings of Jesus Christ, women enjoy far better treatment than they have ever before known. But even today, in countries where Christianity has very little influence, women are treated as animals and slaves—sometimes even worse.

Muslim, Hindu, and Buddhist countries are known for their shameful and degrading treatment of women.

Any time religion moves toward extremism there is an effort to hamper women's rights. We see a similar move in our own country when it comes to women's rights. Remember the owner of Your Sacred Calling is a Christian Reconstructionists which means that she believes in the recreation of Old Testament laws. So, stoning and slavery are okay as long as her own specific sect of Christianity does it.

Time to play the switch-up game...

Feminism was a bandaid that carried it’s own germs, and caused a new infection in our land. Jesus is the great Healer.

Doesn't sound so pretty now, does it? Justifying oppression of others for how they are born never does.

Muslim, Hindu, and Buddhist countries are known for their shameful and degrading treatment of women.

Muslim, Hindu, and Buddhist countries are known for their shameful and degrading treatment of women. Not only is polygamy, “temporary marriage,†clitoral mutilation, foot binding, and female slavery still practiced in many of these countries, there is an attempt to revive the barbaric practice of “suttee†(the burning of widows) in India. To this day, there are reports of unpunished public beatings, abuse, rapes, and even murder against women.

As my boyfriend was born and raised in India, I must step in here. Polygamy is not actually legal there and they don't have temporary marriages, though they do have arranged, which is not any different than the advocated courtship people like her promote. They don't have FGM and to my knowledge foot binding is not practiced in China any longer. Female slaves exist here in the US, just look at the fundie culture she's in. Anyway, suttee is not legal in India and yeah, some do want it back, but there's great resistance for it and feminism and women's rights movements are growing in India to help stop the rapes and abuse and public beatings.

India is changing for the better and actually, China is too, despite the old laws. They are slowly working on a growing respect for girls and women and valuing their education more and more. It takes time. Change doesn't happen overnight. Look at the US, we are coming up on 100 years since women gained the right to vote and women are still second class citizens. Over 150 years out from the civil war and there's still racism against those with darker skin tones, even if it is more subtle, it's still there. There are many people all over the globe working toward better education for everyone, but especially for girls, as the access for them is so much less than for boys. Many men and women, not Americans trying to stop it, but within their own countries are trying to work on law changes to prosecute rapists and murderers, to stop female genital mutilation, to give girls more rights within their culture, to give them hope, to offer them an education, which is their only change, only ticket out of the cycles of abuse and trouble.

Why is educating women such a negative thing. Think of all the potential we are not taping into by not educating girls and women to be more than wives and mothers. So much brain power going to waste. Just imagine what we could accomplish by treating women as equals with men in potential and worth and giving them the same opportunities too. Think of all past potential we have lost too and it's awful. So much talent and opportunity we let sour. With all people in the world at equal footing from the moment they are born, I bet we could cure so much sickness and disease and think of the technology and scientific advances that await us with all that extra brain power at work. I long for that day and hope if I have any daughters I can teach them that they are not dumb at stem fields because they are girls. They can be the wife and mother and the doctor or scientist or whatever they want to be with hard work.

I am thankful for all the past feminists who helped provide me with the opportunities I have been given as a result of their sacrifices and hard work and fighting. I am one woman who will not stop the fight either because I want any future daughters of mine to be given equal freedoms and even more, taping into her potential as more than a sex object and slave for a man. Because they and all girls and women are more than just sex objects and servants, they are people and deserve to be treated as such.

Rant over, got into a little tangent there. :embarrassed:

A glimpse into the past, into Ancient Rome, reveals that sexual faithfulness in marriage was virtually unknown—at least for the man. (Roman lex Julia de Adulteriis) While a man could divorce his wife for her unfaithfulness, it was not considered wrong for a man to commit adultery, unless the act was committed with another man’s wife (property).

I swear this people have never read their own Bibles or know their own history.

And apparently Paul's words are now Jesus's...interesting.

If present anti-Christian trends continue one could see a return to the previous pagan abuses of women. Those advocating pornography, sexual permissiveness, homosexual “marriagesâ€, legalized prostitution, lowered age of consent and the decriminalization of adultery are not offering us progress but only a return to pre-Christian paganisms. – Dr. Peter Hammond

What a dumbass. Pornography and wanting to lower age of consent are all men's doings, not feminist doings, but they are not pagan. They are all cultures and all religions to date with a history in past centuries and yeah, that totally includes Christianity as they are not one bit better in how they treat women. Majority Christian nation and still all these problems. Adultery isn't criminalized, but certainly damages reputations and ruins marriages and lives. It's not the sex that's the bad thing with adultery, it's the lies. It's behind their spouse's back and lying. It's the betrayal of trust, the break of vows and promises, that's why adultery's reputation is so bad.

Comparing homosexual marriages to legal prostitution, the oldest profession in the books and having sex with young teenagers, that's so fucked up. 14yos are too young to knowingly consent to sex with someone who is legally an adult. 16yos can because well, if we let them legally drive a several ton machinery and put them in that dangerous situation and they can legally consent to dropping out of school, well, I guess it would be stupid to say they are too young to consent to sex with someone else.

Yeah, these people are not very bright ones, but preaching to the choir here.

The only thing Jesus ever said about women's roles:

(Luke 10:38)

"Now as they went on their way, he entered a certain village, where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 39 She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to what he was saying. 40 But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to him and asked, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me.†41 But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; 42 there is need of only one thing.[l] Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.â€

In other words: Martha is busy busy being the perfect hostess, while her sister sits with the teacher and learns from him exactly as his male disciples are doing. When Martha complains that Mary isn't helping her with the "women's work," Jesus points out that they both have choices, and Mary is entitled to hers.

So the chains of egalitarianism are . . . totally nonexistent. Jesus treats his followers without respect to their gender. I have no idea what "the protection that Jesus intended us to have" is supposed to be. The only time Jesus talks much about protection is when he's comparing himself to the good shepherd who lays down his life for the sheep. The sheep being, I have to assume, both male and female or there would be a dearth of new sheep.

You just cannot use Jesus's teachings - anything actually said by Jesus in scripture - to advocate gender discrimination. It doesn't stand up.
