Nom Nom Nom? - Homemade Soy Sauce

How was it discovered she lives in Israel - she's always very careful to be mysterious about where she lives. (And what her religious beliefs are.) They live below the poverty line, btw, and she's pregnant again.

Yeah, she even scribbled out the brand names in a photo of her groceries. So weird.

Speaking of which, I'm almost certain that's Sugat brand sugar in the photo, which supports the claims she's in Israel.

Edit: Oh, hey, I could have just done a quick Google search. Apparently it's an open secret that she's in Israel. She even discusses it on the old boards.

Okay so did she get her inspiration from Emily? Or did Emily get her inspiration from Penniless Parenting? I am a frugalista...but this is extreme even for me :o

I found a link here from a fermenting website. The webmaster uses the same method as the PennilessFrugal lady. The webmaster even consulted with the makers of Kikkoman soy sauce, so the way Frugal is using the mold isn't wrong (just gross to look at).

Here in the US, gluten-free soy sauce is $5 a bottle, but I'm betting that her price for gluten-free soy sauce is a lot higher. If you don't live close to a gluten-free soy sauce manufacturing site, the shipping adds up really fast.

Plus, every other kind of gluten free product is also really expensive. A pound of pasta? $3.75 One loaf of bread? $5.50. I'm allergic to peanuts so I eat almond butter. $6 for 16 oz.

Being gluten free is expensive--anything you can figure out how to make on your own helps you afford the products you have to buy.

My Soybottle actually has the name of the mold on it, so I do wonder if it will work with different kinds.

At the same time, I think she is right in saying, that it was donelike this a long time.

I think she is nothing like Emily- right now she is pregnant and she put a pause on the frugalty and shopped for food she liked.

I do hope she does not have a fourth child in two years. She seems really nice and caring. But she also keeps her private life much more private than Emily.

I actually exchanged some emails and I quite enjoyed it. :-)

All I want to know is whether or not she named the mold. Therese? Is that you?

 You know you only name it if it's kefir.
