It's mostly pablum except for this one.

Quote
1. Say yes to sex, even when you're tired. Michelle says a friend gave her advice to live by before she and Jim Bob married in 1984: "She said, 'In your marriage there will be times you're going to be very exhausted. Your hubby comes home after a hard day's work, you get the baby to bed, and he is going to be looking forward to that time with you.'" — she's talking about sex, just so everyone's clear — "'Be available. Anyone can fix him lunch, but only one person can meet that physical need of love that he has, and you always need to be available when he calls.'"

At the time, as a young bride-to-be, Michelle says, she couldn't imagine ever not wanting to "be available" for some quality married nookie. But with kids, she soon realized, exhaustion can easily extinguish romance. So she's made an effort to follow her friend's advice — and with no birth control and 19 kids, it would seem she's succeeded. "That has been such a lifesaver for our marriage," she tells TODAY Moms.

Seems to be working for Jim Bob, too: "We're like a newlywed couple every day!" he enthuses.

Please. Stop. Now.

There is a whole lot more to marriage than sex. If your spouse can't handle an occasional " not tonight, dear", then they are pretty selfish and are only thinking of themselves.

I really could have gone a lifetime without knowing that bit of information.

I wonder of that "friend" was Debi Pearl?

Talking about your sex life isn't modest.

you think she lies back and thinks of Jesus?

Or Lori Alexander.

I have a feeling they're both wild in bed. I don't want that image in my mind though.

Yeah, we're supposed to accept that Michelle needs special black boxes over her oh-so-sexy kneecaps while she waterskis on television because she's so modest, and yet she and Jim Bob always feel the need to inform the public that they are not only having sex to try for #20, but also how often they are doing it.

Because that's the modest, Godly Christian way.

Right.

I really do think a lot of the fundie focus on "sexual availability" has to come from the suppression of sexual knowledge before marriage. Yes, sex is important in a marriage, but God help you if you think that you can save it just by having sex whenever your partner desires. If you go into a marriage with the only knowledge you have of sex being "the man will want it and the woman will want to say no a lot" you're essentially being set up to fail.

If this is what she shares with total strangers, what does she share with her friends? :disgust:

Refuse to read this. Ewwwwwwwwwwww!

She says in one of the books that the friend who gave that sex advice is Gayla Ellenbarger, she of the famous Duggar Homemade Rolls recipe.

Never mind what you want! You are a sperm receptacle and nothing else! Stay sweet!

of course like anyone that gets what they want every time they want it it just leads to a spoiled rotten child that cares nothing but for their own gratification. We see this so much in fundydum.

The modesty!

So is Boob always available for her needs, or is the female orgasm a fantasy in that house?

boob knows as much about the female orgasm as he does about evolution.

It is also easy to be available when you have the your oldest daughters doing most of the childcare especially at night.

I have had my share of serious health issues, and I can say the times when there have been many months that my husband and I have not been able to be intimate brought us MUCH closer together then having sex whenever my man would want (which would not happen). If you think you are going to lose you man because you don't give him enough sex then he is a man worth losing.

I thought this part was really weird, why would the baby's gender affect how long you wait to have sex after the birth?

2. But give it a rest sometimes. It's not all sexytime at the Duggars. They abstain when Michelle has her period, and also after childbirth: 80 days before sex if it's a girl, 40 days after a boy. (The timeline for abstinence after childbirth is loosely based on Old Testament traditions, but is more about what works for their marriage than about observing religious law, the Duggars say.)

From what I've read Jewish law required that a woman ritually cleanse herself after bleeding from giving birth. For a son this was 40 days. However, if the woman had a daughter the time would be doubled because she (the Mom) would be ritually cleansed for both her own bleeding and that of the future bleeding of her daughter. Hence doubling the time of the cleanse with a daughter vs a son.

Have sex even if your tired? Seriously? I'm sure the man will understand if you can't have sex because you're tired. And if he doesn't, he's not worth it.

Marriage isn't just all about the husband's needs. It's also about the wife's needs too.

JimBob also speaks of treating his wife like a queen----that's the key to having a wife wanting to have sex whenever the husband wants sex. If your husband provides well, treats you well and keeps himself in shape; a wife is more likely to want to have sex with him! Husbands who do not provide for their families well, never make their wives feel special and are unhealthy are not very sexy!
