In yesterday's segment of 700 Club, Pat told a woman that she wasn't marriage material because of her character that causes her to choose abusive men. That's right folks, it's not the guy's fault if he abuses you-nope, it's your character that causes him to abuse you. If you had good character, you wouldn't pick a man who's abusive.

Pat Robertson tends to sound like a senile old fool, but I think there's a subtle distinction between saying that someone tends to choose abusive men vs. saying that there's something about someone that tends to cause people to abuse them.

If someone has had a string of bad marriages or relationships, it does make sense for them to take a step away from finding a new relationship, and exam with a counselor if there were any common elements or patterns. There could be subconscious bad choices made, for example, by someone who is repeating the dysfunctional patterns of their family.

His word choice, as usual, sucked. It's not about character. It's about identifying and breaking bad patterns.
