Erin Bates's Wedding - Part 2

I think it's because they want to promote a happy/sex-filled marriage as a reward for chastity. So it's like, "Look, fundie boys and girls, if you just tow the line till you've got that wedding band on your finger, you too will be sucking face and gallivanting like these folks!"

They have the television ON in one of the pictures. LOL

Ah! The forbidden TV. Maybe it was on the hutch channel?

Eta: Church Channel!

Did we really need to see pictures of the beds? I think we're all smart enough to figure out what was going on...

I heard that she achieved her very tight curls with foam rollers (they looked it) but you need them in overnight (used to use them) so not surprised that the curls are gone now that she's married. Don't think Chad would be keen on curlers in bed.

I predicted this would happen once they became an official couple. Do you think Chad wants to see those things on his wife during sexy times?

I don't really understand kissing pictures. I think the only kissing picture my husband and I have is from our wedding. I don't get "Hey, lets take what should be a private, intimate moment, pose, snap a picture with one hand and show it to the world." mindset that seems to be very popular nowadays.

We take kissing pictures, it's just we don't post them on blogs or Facebook or any other social media! Unless it's a cheek kiss it stays private!

I'm less disturbed by the kissing pictures though than I am by the bed picture - look ma, I broke my hymen on this bed! You might as well be displaying a bloody sheet for the village to see.

His signature makes me laugh every time.

...for her Only

Now that you are married, you had to add that too? In case we had forgotten.

At least it doesn't say "Ribbed, for her pleasure…"

Oh wait, they wouldn't have any way to know that phrase, would they?

All this singing during weddings reminds me of an episode of Four Weddings I saw last week. This woman wrote an opera for her vows and one of the lines was (and I quote) "I will carry your seed for you, and raise it to fear the Almighty."

Erin looks different in these pictures, and I don't think it's just less poofy hair. Is she wearing less make-up? She looks almost tired. It would make sense for her to look tired since they planned the wedding in about 3 months and I know jet-lag is a killer.

I, too, think she looks a little deflated. It's like her smile doesn't quite go all the way down her eyes. It's too soon to make judgments about it, though.

I am so jealous, they can kiss now that they are married. I mean, single women like myself, who live on their own and support themselves are not allow to kiss a gentlemen caller. Oh wait.......

Are we supposed to be impressed? This is called trying to hard to prove it is worth the wait. It's almost like fundy porn for all the little SAHDs.

I get the feeling it is to prove 1) their courtship was successful and they are truly in love, even if daddy picked hubby and 2) a way to prove they have consummated the relationship without showing them in the act or waving bloody sheets.

It's the sex. :D

No, seriously, I can never help but think about the sex aspect when it comes to these fundie marriages. I'm sure some are lucky and able to enjoy sex right off the bat, but for the the others it must be a nightmare. They've been taught to repress their sexuality their whole lives, yet are expected to transform into sexual beings overnight. I can't imagine how painful, embarrassing, frightening, and/or disappointing the beginning of marriage must be for these women (and many of the men).

That's what happens when the how-to manual your husband received from his in-laws (barf) a fortnight before your wedding doesn't even include the clitoris in the diagrams.

jmho, but I think Zach and Whit's honeymoon photos are completely different from Erin and Chad's. Zach and Whit just look so relaxed, comfortable and happy together, whereas Erin looks uncomfortable and not that excited. She looks like she's icked out by Chad touching her in most of the photos, especially in the one of him kissing her. But maybe I'm just looking too much into things.

You figure that Erin has had that "purity" crap shoved down her throat for her entire life. So...now it's ok to do those things and she's probably more than a little squiked out. Whitney may have been a virgin, but I wouldn't be surprised if she had kissed a boy or two before. She didn't have her head played with regarding sex like Erin did.

Apparently it is very much like that...

Thank you for the link to that blog! I hadn't read it before and found it extremely interesting, especially the article "Who are the Real Babies? House-Proofing and Modesty" where she goes into the contradiction of babies having to control themselves in fundie families via Pearl-techniques versus men not having to control themselves - with babies they are expected to see objects of temptation (like a glass bowl they might want to touch) and not act, with men the woman are expected to hide objects of temptation because it is seen that they can't control themselves. Has this contradiction been discussed on FJ before? It's a pretty amazing point to make.

I thought Erin looked different too - not tired but actually a little sad, but maybe that's me confusing it for tired. Also she looks tanner? Maybe it's just in comparison to Chad looking really pasty lately.

I agree that Erin seems to have lost a little of her sparkle in those honeymoon pics. Could be jetlag (going East is the worst direction); could be the shock of sex being scary/not all she was promised in life. I guess time will tell...

I agree, Erin does look not too thrilled. No wonder IMO. Of course they spent some time together during their courtship but in their honeymoon it's the first time just the two of them. There might be a lot of adjustments, maybe the first argument, changing moods, stress etc.
