Wow, that was... something.

It wasn't my first time reading that, but Addie's posts never get old. She is a walking self-parody! Addie may well be the most naive of them all.

Wow, just wow! :pink-shock:

Shame no one thought to have the car park elsewhere so the dramatic gallop wasn't framed by vans and mini buses.

Saved for all time and posterity. This is what patriarchal fundamentalists think of women.

The worst part is that it was Katie's own idea. Talk about kool aid...

It annoys me that they use foot washing as a way to show the subservience of a woman to the men in her life. That's not at all what it signifies in the Bible. Jesus washed his disciples' feet to serve them as a sign of humility; he didn't make them wash his feet to show that they're beneath him.

OUr church has a ceremony on Holy Thursday to celebrate this. The priest is the one washing the feet of (in our church anyway) a collection of children and elderly parishioners.

John 13:14–17, 14 "If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet." 15 "For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you." 16 "Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him." 17 "If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them."

I think the fundies are kind of missing the point...

My face, it is palmed. (But I do love that dress.)

OMG. This is...something. I like how the Cap'n starts in on THE SOCIALISTS right at the beginning. Imagine my disappointment when I got through all 20 minutes only to find that the site you're directed to for the rest of the video no longer exists. :(

Thank you! Now my husband thinks I'm insane because I'm watching a man who looks like he might bomb an abortion clinic someday pay 50 shekels of silver to a Captain for a woman named Kressant.

This video is awesome, thanks for sharing.

Michael always seemed a bit awkward and creepy compared to the rest of the Mortons, who are all happy and cheerful (at least in pictures). The video seems to confirm this....

That beard and awkwardly combed-over hair do not help. Combine that with that case of crazy eyes he has going and the generally stern and unsmiling expression he seems to have in every shot and I'd half expect his mugshot to show up on TV someday after driving a U-Haul full of fertilizer into a federal building or a Planned Parenthood.

I just saw that video and it is something else. The part that really struck me: Mr Morton says that Katie was almost incapacitated when she had to choose to marry Alan or not - her father had made every big decision for her before that and it was a huge shock for her to make such a big decision on her own. Mr Morton goes on to say that he prayed and then "advised" his daughter and then she was able to be happy and at peace. In effect it seems that she was so crippled by his upbringing that he had to make that choice for her too. Presumably her husband makes all the big decisions now.

I think I'd have been pretty lost too if the first big decision I had to make was deciding if I was willing to be married or not. It was just so much easier the way my parents did things - gradually letting me take on more and more responsibility and allowing me to gradually make more and more decisions on my own - so that by the time I was an adult I had quite a bit of experience in making choices already.

Wow. What a complete & utter perversion of Scripture. Sickening.

Thank you for the YouTube link. Never could get their stupid-ass website to work long enough to watch it.

Its squicky on so many levels when you start thinking about consent and submission. Did she even want to marry him in the first place? Is she just playing out what she thinks she was supposed to do? Some many levels of wrong in that and he's BRAGGING about it.

Another gem:

Katie and her mother discuss the benefits of homebirth. I

OMG that is horrible :(

If you have an adult who is completely unable to make life decisions on her own because she has always had other people make decisions for her, you have done something very very wrong.

If you cant make decisions by yourself, you are not mature enough to marry.

HOLY SHIT at those videos. And Katie gave birth in her fathers bed? That grosses me out for a reason I can't articulate based on their relationships with their father.

The blog is 90% written by Adeline, who is 21/22 and the middle daughter of the Mortons. The older two girls, Katie and Dorothy, are married already. Addie's been writing the blog for a couple of years now, with occasional guest appearances by other Mortons. Addie... is a special little duckling. She thinks she's a character in a Jane Austen novel, but, you know, wordier. Her posts often point out some of the racism and cultural insensitivity that must run rampant in the Morton household.

Someone better than me can correct the order, but the Mortons children are:

Michael - Married to Kressant Smith

Wesley - Married to Rachel Smith

Cleve - Married to Lise (not Smith).

Katie - Married to Alan Smith

Dorothy - Married to Noah Sanders

Adeline

Martha

a gaggle of younger boys - Sam, Paul, Edwin and maybe another.

The first three Morton children to marry (Michael, Wes, Katie) married siblings from the same family. Michael and Wes live on the compound with Kressant and Rachel; Katie and Alan seem to live relatively nearby. Dorothy lives with the Sanders family, and Cleve and Lise are a bit of a question mark at the moment.

Anyway, I do feel for Addie. She is going to lonely without Martha.. Rachel and Kressant are probably busier than they can imagine with their own broods of children. I think Rachel has four and Kressant six?

I am also knew to these families and all i can say is wow. From my brief reading of their blogs, it seems like they are more into dressing up than Dougie.

Do you have any particular examples of the racism? Is it more ignorance or blatant?

They're a mix of both. They're all about the Confederate flag (viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2090&start=40) and they've been guilty of bigoted language (oriental?). They seem like pretty typical "south will rise again" types.
