RIP Lou Reed

Was announced yesterday, so it's old news.

Just last week I was listening to Transformer and thought to myself I hope he has one more tour in him...I've seen most bands/musicials I admire (and I'm fortunate to have done so) but Lou was on my short list of ones I wanted to see.

I remember Heroin blowing my fucking mind when I was in my early 20's. I had never heard anything like it....and I was transfixed.

I loved the grittiness, darkness and taboo-shattering music.

To me, he embodied New York of the 1960's/1970's.

RIP Lou.

I read about Lou's death on Sunday. He was one of the greats although he was not perhaps as well known as some. He will be missed.

Rest in Peace, Lou.

I've had a lifelong crush on him. Saw him in concert in the 80s.

My poet friend Merry Fortune wrote:

What Lou Reed meant to me was enormous. He held a place of purity for the dark part of our experience. His lyrics were tender, straight-up, unflinching, brash, and trouble. His music occupied a world that did not give up, especially and even when the seeking soul took its less than illuminated turns. His creativity favored accute honesty, revealed many incarnations of beauty, much light, and many possible ways of transforming.
