Not that crazy. A LOT of adoptees are using it to try to find their families these days. I know a few who have.

I'd really like to get this done one day, even though I am in contact with both my bio families. I'd have to have the money to get one of my bio dad's sibs to do it too, though. Even though I found my bio dad (sadly deceased), there is some suspicion that HIS dad is different from his brothers and sister. Both the parents are dead, so no other way to find out.

I found an entire family my mother never know her fathe had doing this. So yes to echo not surprising.
