Down with DOTs!!!!

THANK YOU. I'm so tired of not being able to access content because of this. I know most people aren't aware of what causes the problem, but my browser/internet can't fill in the blanks and it's frustrating.

I'm anti-DOT, also.

Here's another way to look at it.

It's to the advantage of the poster to take off the http instead of doing the DOT, since it enables more people to read what they have to say.

There is so much to read here, I often don't bother with the "DOTted" broken links. And I can't get to them at all if they are long and have an ellipsis replacing the middle. I suspect I've missed some valuable things due to that.

Also, it is just less work. You can highlight everything in the address bar except the www. or what ever and copy that, rather than copying the whole thing, replacing the . with DOT.

I will try to remember to break them your way then. I am not a mobile user so thank you for highlighting challenges when using a mobile. So whatever works for you, anonymous person I don't know and don't care about ;)

Well, there's no need to be so smug.

Yep -- easier for the person posting, more likely to get their input read and respected, and considerate of the people reading. Seems like a win/win to me!

I can't get to the ellipsis'fied ones either. I did miss a valuable blog post because of that and I couldn't find the post after searching for it on the blog itself.

Simply taking the "http://www." part off is sufficient, and at least in Chrome I can easily access it if I copy/paste. The DOTs make it extremely annoying since I don't catch them right away.

Am I the only one who read DOTs as "Damage Over Time"?

NOpe ;)

There was a reason I had to re-read the OP several times.

Friends, when we want to break a link, let's pledge to keep away from the CAPS LOCK key. No "DOT" in place of periods/decimal points

The option is so easy:

Copy/paste the link into your post, like so:

http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com

Delete the "http://www." Or if there's no "www.", just delete the "http:"

Your readers will only have to copy/paste the resulting info into their browser bars, hit "enter" & they'll get right to the page. OK, they might have to key in the "http://www." - no big whoop, am I right?

It would be so appreciated, especially by speshul snowflakes like myself who do most surfing on a smartphone.

That's my one request for allyall. Kthxbai!

+3

(That's for me, my husband, and my daughter. So they don't have to hear me curse as once more I have to pick through a link when all I want is teh lulz.

Agreed that the DOTS are annoying and that's coming from someone who has a dumb phone and surfs from a desktop. I just can't see or aim well enough to get rid replace them in one try.

I wondered what Mama JuneBug had against the Dept. of Transportation.

I agree! Accessibility rooolz! If you want to share the lulz, why not make it easier on yourself and everybody else.
