Well I just finished, and wow. Those last three episodes are something else. I feel like Piper's character has finally hit her stride as, you know, an entertaining shithead. However... I gotta echo a lot of the internet criticism that the gritty realism this season bordered on exploitation at times, and the writing staff could use some black voices.

I still love this show though. In my opinion, from best to worst seasons it is 4-2-1-3. Parts of season 3 were so cheesy I felt embarrassed watching it. But the most compelling part of this show is the character backstories, and season 4 nailed several so so well. It was largely a scathing take on our treatment of the mentally ill in the US and I really didn't predict how far they took that and how deep it runs within things like class, age, gender, private vs public services... so many chills.

I was just heartbroken by Suzanne's episode -- and Lolly's. 

And in the future, when I'm trying to describe "Christian" behavior (as it should be), I'm using Sister Jane as an example.
