Public libraries cannot be liberal. Or conservative. As "public" libraries they represent everyone, they are neutral and they are there to provide access to any and every type of information you can want. That is why you cannot hold religious meetings in them because that would give the appearance of supporting a particular worldview (which another blogger complained about awhile ago), why they cannot censor their internet (something my brother deals with at his job - where patrons are actually watching *real* porn on their public computers and the library is not allowed to filter it even though there are obviously kids who come into the library), why it would be unfair to petition a library to remove/censor the Pearl books, etc. The library providing any type of information, or not allowing religious meetings, is not a symbol of their endorsement or rejection of that information/group. It is simply a function of the library being a neutral place where people can come to learn and decide for themselves what they believe. I guess that is too much for fundies, but to me that is what makes libraries so wonderful.

And the poor daughter looks miserable in the thrift shop skirt pictures! I hope they at least donated all those DVDs instead of throwing them out. She probably could have made some money selling them to a store like BuyBacks.

The poor daughter is quite possibly suffering from mental illness...depression and maybe BPD (I say this as a person who has both). "Privately hurt herself", to me, means she cuts. And this woman's remedy for this serious, diagnosable, treatable illness is to lay hands on her and cast out demons. :pull-hair:

Please God, let this girl get away, run far and fast, and find good friends and a good therapist. I can't imagine what she's been through growing up in a home where obviously the reason she stuffed everything is because any manifestation of feelings or thoughts that aren't "WE LOVE JEEESUS" weren't allowed or were punished out of her. :(

DD1 has always been the "tough" one in the family. Every hurt and pain she ever had, she would stuff it all inside. She never once worked through the grief and pain of losing her daddy when she was five. Any time she had a heart ache from anything at all, she stuffed it all way down inside. She was like a dam holding back a large lake from drowning everyone below. Needless to say, this would manifest in her behaviors growing up.

It sounds like the loss of her father was very traumatic (duh), and she was expected to cope with all that by...praying and going on Journeys to the Heart? Ugh.

I was excited to learn that 3 minutes of Michael of the American Life League droning on about "homesexuality" and "sexual intercourse or 'having sex'" was pornographic. Alas, the video failed entirely to make me horny. My partner also watched the video and is now having fits of laughter. Is there something wrong with us?

Anyone else find it fishy that the American Life League's name was on the prison's rejection form? I have the feeling THEY submitted a fundraising letter for "It's Perfectly Normal" to every institution they could think of and made a video about the ONE institution that rejected it. Mr. Minerva raised the point that the form could actually be a freedom of information request, but the zoomed out picture of the form is blurry, and neither of us knows what a freedom of information request looks like.

Also, calling illustrations of naked and/or wanking kids "child pornography" is an insult to the real children hurt by actual child pornography. I realize that anti-choice groups specialize in minimizing the suffering of the victims of horrendous crimes, but wow, they really lack compassion.

When I read about her feelings toward this girl it made my heart hurt. She sounds like a child who needs someone to listen to her without judgment or punishment. When someone holds negative & hurtfull things inside of them without an outlet for too long is when someone does something drastic to let the pain out. Children (much less adults) don't have the emotion skills to cope with what she has been through without help

She doesn't need more god, she needs professional help and a supportive family :angry-banghead:

I am so glad you guys got tripped out by these guys like I did! My mom (who was corporate at Wal Mart for a a decade or so) lives near these people and the Duggars. It drives her insane (she and her husband are inching from Democrats towards socialism). She says there are groups up there even worse than these people! I guess they don't have blogs.

Check out their crazy vacation. Part of me feels really badly for them and applauds their ingenuity, but then I recall that Proverbs Dad is very sick, but Proverbs Mom, while able-bodied, does not work because Jesus Homeschool. They had to recycle cans to get enough money to go to Taco Bell.
