Can someone just explain to me how, exactly, we're all going to stay just as wealthy when half the workforce stops working? Are goods and services going to produce themselves? Or are low-skilled, unemployed men going to turn into skilled workers overnight?

Don't worry about that. God will figure it all out.

Do these people have ANY IDEA how impractical that is? Has she ever left BFE and traveled beyond her tiny little life? Has she even looked at a map? How on earth can she think that every single person in the world would be better off living as she lives?

This is why reading books is important. Because they can take you to places you may never go, and into the minds of people who aren't like you, allowing you to emphasize with people who are different.

If men are so great and women so incapable, why would a company hire any woman?

I'm sure Kelly and her ilk would probably say something along the lines of "pressure from man-hating feminists" and "affirmative action policies".

Hahahahahaha.

It's comical how little these idiots know about the workplace. Does she really think men are falling over themselves to be office juniors, teaching assistants, lollipop men, school dinner assistants, beauticians etc?

Having had a couple of these jobs (unsurprisingly, not beautician...) I can tell you that the men *hate* it. They check their watches ostentatiously in meetings, impatient for the day when they will be the ones saying "20 copies of this for the ABC meeting at 10am today" instead of the ones making the 20 copies (for the next 40 years). They won't sit with the admin staffers at lunch, because inferiority cooties. They wear the sharpest suits they can afford on their measly pay and remind everyone, continually, of their qualifications and how they are destined for better things.

This is SO true. I was a half-admin assistant/half-research associate in my first Big Girl job in grad school, and one of my colleagues was this charming (really) and really nice guy I'm friends with to this day. However, one fine day I had to go to a conference, so he - as the only remaining "junior" staffer in the office - had to order lunch for a 10-person meeting. I came back after my conference to a diatribe of "I WENT TO SCHOOL FOR HOW MANY YEARS FOR THIS!??!?!?!", and I just lulzed. Welcome to my life! And he's a really nice guy, too; imagine if he were a total douche!

I still don't understand how her proposal would work in Reality on Planet Earth , but I do find it hilarious that the woman who feeds 11 people 2 chicken breasts is trying to teach us all how to FIX this country's financial woes.

Kelly's such an idiot! Love how she creates a post based on the opinion of a man who is clearly a misogynist (save some brain cells and don't read the comments to his "exposé on "Women, Work, & Freedom") as if it was some well-researched journalism. Who the hell is Nicholas Farrell?! She's so eager to jump on his anti-feminist bandwagon that I'm sure she probably didn't even read through his site (let alone the article) to really get an understanding of who this guy and his ilk are.

Who is this Nicholas Farrell? Only one I found was an English actor. In other words, he is just a random person no one knows about and writes articles on a random website based on his opinion, not fact. The teach the difference in primary school.

Is she a socialist, or does she actually think that the Invisible Hand of the market will make every job a family-wage job by magic wand? The family wage, where/when it existed, was the direct result of union activity.

That's Barry HUSSEIN! Obomba!

Women have worked outside of the home since the beginning of time. Some worked because they wanted to, some worked because they had to, and some worked for both reasons. And I hardly think our economy will get back on track and there will be nothing but milk and honey all over the land if no lady worked outside the home. The economy didn't fall into the toilet because a bunch of uppity women got selfish and greedy and wanted to compete with the menz! Our economic meltdown is a bit more complex. Kelly needs to access some real journalism, like Matt Taibbi's articles for Rolling Stone, not some commentary by Nicholas Farrell (who?). Kelly needs to see documentaries like "Inside Job" and "The Heist." She needs to Google the term "Powell Memo" and find out how corporate overlords hijacked public policy, political discourse, and our elected officials so they could have complete control and fuck over workers and the citizens of the United States.

Oh, and Kelly should also Google the names of Brooksley Born, Sheila Bair, and Elizabeth Warren. If we had more women like this in the workplace and in positions of power, maybe our economy would be stronger.
