[link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_n-q_0qej4]Pat Robertson: Husband Cheated But "Well, He's A Man" (VIDEO)[/link]

A viewer of the 700 Club writes:

"I've been trying to forgive my husband for cheating on me. We have gone to counseling, but I just can't seem to forgive, nor can I trust. How do you let go of the anger? How do you trust again?"

Pat Robertson's replies:

"Here's the secret. Stop talking about the cheating. He cheated on you, well, he's a man."

"Does he provide a home for you to live in, Does he provide food for you to eat? Does he provide clothes for you to wear? Is he nice to the children... "

"Give him honor, instead of trying to worry about it."

"Recognize also, like it or not, males have a tendency to wander a little bit. What you want to do is make a home so wonderful that he doesn't want to wander."

"Think of the temptations that are out there, the internet is filled with pornography. The magazines are filled with salacious pictures of women. Anywhere you turn around there’s some solicitation to the senses to entice a man."

"What you have to do is say, ‘My husband was captured and I want to get him free."

I see that he's using "man" as if it de facto means "cheating asshole."

Isn't that what G.W. Bush would call "the bigotry of soft expectations"?

Again, WTF?

Would Pat give the same advice to the husband of a woman who is cheating?

Can the cheated-upon wife demand that condoms be used during sex? Does she have the right to worry that his behavior directly increases her risk of disease? Is her gynecologist not recommending doing Pap smears as often because she's in a monogamous relationship, and would that change if it was revealed that her husband was cheating?

I pretty sure Pat Robertson died years ago and has been replaced by a bobble-head.

I'm starting to suspect that myself. I haven't heard that anyone's seen him in public around here in southeastern VA for quite some time.

Women don't want sex, silly. I'm not certain if we even exist if a man isn't in the room.

Was he the one who advised a man to divorce his Alzheimer's-stricken wife because "it's like she's dead already?"

I thought about posting this but he has said it a lot in one form or another. i mean it is always the woman's fault so it is getting pretty old and stale.

Yup. That would be the one. ;)

Yes.

To give a bit of credit where credit is due, Nathan from the CF Husband blog slammed him for it.

Pat's logic, while faulty, is at least consistent. Wives are for sex, and if they aren't able to satisfy their guy, he should be free to go elsewhere.

The Christian Broadcasting Network has released a statement (quoted here) about Robertson's advice concluding thus:

His intent was not to condone infidelity or to cast blame. We regret any misunderstanding.

Okay. So he blithely insults people because he's incapable of saying what he actually means, then? Keep digging, folks.

I'm beginning to wonder if that man is in the early stages of dementia.

I knew someone that I don't know anymore, who's husband was a notorious cheater. And is, to the day. Not only was she forced to marry him at age 19, every time that man cheated on her people explained to her how it was her fault (her cooking sucked, she was fat, she wasn't obedient enough, and so on), and when the man wanted to leave her they told her to have another baby to save her marriage and cook better.

The way he says the "what he did with that stripper in the motel room 10 years ago" makes me think he was speaking from a personal experience.

I saw the video with this blowhard. I always wonder with him why he defends husbands that cheat. It seems whatever a man does it is fine, yet he had said in the past that women ought to be slapped so they stay in line. Me thinks he is hiding something.

That's horrible. But doesn't Suprise me he said!! Would he advice a woman to do the same thing.

I hear complaints about how feminists and liberals 'hate' men, but this type of thing seems way more hateful towards men than any of that. Lots of guys I know would beg to differ...

Come on, you guys! You sound like those people who think that a great deity came down from the heavens and gave a list of commandments to some guy telling people that they shouldn't cheat on their spouse! Oh, wait.

wow, thanks pat. my exh told me it was my fault and blamed it all on me, but i wasn't sure. thanks for the clarification. ugh, gross. i'm sure it wouldn't be his fault if his wife cheated on him.

One really has to wonder if his ass is jealous of the shit that comes out of his mouth.

Great first post!   Welcome to FJ! :text-welcomewave:

My first husband cheated on me constantly. No, it was not my fault. He was a dick and had no self control or respect for me or our marriage. When I think back to how humiliated, sad, and scared I was that he was running after any woman who would look at him, and the unbelievable pain of thinking if I just did more "tricks" or paid him extra attention I could save our marriage......I just want to seriously hurt Pat Robertson. I just can't express how much his views offend me.

The idea men can not do anything before marriage and has to have control, seems to fly out the window once the ring hits the finger. I mean come on these guys are not suppose to chase after skirts or whack off for years before they get married and they have self discipline. A ring is placed on the finger and suddenly one woman is in charge of every desire and he has no control at all of what he does, I'm sorry that is absolute crap.
