eta: I love how Teri is pointing the washer fluid right at the baby.

First, me too. That aimed window cleaner is the first thing I noticed. How strange. I wouldn't even have had it in the photo.

Second, "She decided we girls could take an hour...". "We girls" are how old? Mom is still deciding how they can spend an hour of their Saturday time (I was going to say "weekend time", but, a la the Dowager Countess of Grantham, these "girls" don't live in a normal world and therefore have no idea what a weekend is. Sundays, yes, they know Sundays because they can escape Maxhell and pester the elderly for a couple of hours, but weekends, no. They don't know weekends.) But, back to the "she decided" thing. I don't think they even know how strange that sounds to the rest of the world who, once past puberty, don't have their moms having it laid on their hearts to grant their adult/near adult daughters an hour to do...anything.

I really wouldn't want to rejoice in a toilet, clean or not. There is only so far you can push fundie speak...and that is too far. Blessed with a clean toilet, how precious it is to have a clean toilet (mind you with a 10 year old son I am sort of empathizing with that...he pees on the seat all the time :( )

I wonder how much intestinal fortitute it took for Terified to PERMIT A DEVIATION FROM THE SCHEDULE. Will there be a butterfly effect from allowing that one precious hour to be directed elsewhere? Just imagine if originally they were supposed to clean the ceiling fans but by not doing so, a microscopic layer dust was allowed to accumulate. Then, next time the ceiling fan was turned on said dust--possibly containing a common cold germ--flew off the blades and was inadvertently inhaled by Steve who then came down with the cold, lost his voice and was unable to conduct family bible time. Deprived of their normal routine, everyone went off the rails. Joseph said "fuck it" and moved into his heretofore empty house where he hosted all night keggers, disturbing the neighbors until they called the police. John discovered that he had an adoring mob of lonely hearts females and began bilking them out of their dowries with promises of marriage. Anna expanded on her talents at burrito making by setting up her own Taco Bell franchise, whereupon she lost all control, snarfed up every gordita in sight and developed a weight problem. Sarah discovered that the reason she was so content to sit around waiting for Jesus to send her a husband is because she really wanted a wife. She met her one true love on a solo jaunt to Kansas City, they married and moved to San Francisco where they live happily with their 3 children and 27 cats, supported by Sarah's career writing porn. And Mary? Mary went to college, became a doctor and opened a clinic providing health care and all forms of reproductive services to the women of Kansas and beyond. That just about covers it, right? No! Wait! Jesse! Remember Jesse? That's okay, no one else does either, including, apparently, his family (have you noticed how frequently he's NOT mentioned on the blog?) Well, no one knows what happened to him.

But do you see, Teri? DO YOU? Look what can happen all because you had it on your heart to deviate from the schedule. You never NEVER mess with The Plan.

P.S. I'm just glad the adult children don't still have to wear their Chore Packs. Or do they?

I wondered how good a job the ladies could do on three houses in one hour, even if there were six ladies. BigMamaJuneBug used to say, 'There's surface clean and then there's deep clean' and let's see.... six ladies spending 20 minutes to clean all of a house's windows, inside and out? I'm calling that "surface clean,' as in, they'll see the streaks when the sun comes out again, and the corners aren't well done.

I said a prayer for Melanie's family when they wrote of how wonderfully Bethany ran to get a broom and dustpan for bugs. Yes, it's wonderful she knows how to clean, but even more "yes" I want her to know how to do more. With Melanie's family and gifts of toys like the play doctor kit they gave Abby some time ago, A,B&C have a chance at not withering like Aunt Poor Sarah.

I think BigMamaJunebug and my Yiayia (grandmother) would have been besties if they had ever met in real life. Unlike Terri, they would have also been plotting a world takeover while analysizing levels of clean. Those women believed in multitasking.

My niece is Bethany's age, her current favorite toy is a kiddie toolbox (loves the toy hammer) and her current favorite word is "NO!"

Makes my fingers shake imagining her in a Maxwell house being taught how to act like a young lady. :angry-banghead:

I thought I read that they did this on three separate Saturdays so an hour on each house. Maybe they don't have as many windows or the size windows that I have but it still would be very quick window washing.

I bet she asked Steve for permission to deviate from the usual schedule before deciding the "girls" could take on the window washing. I was floored that Teri decided her daughters would do this. She did not appear to ask them if they would mind doing it. At least she helped them.

I pay a cleaning company to come in and "deep clean" my carpets, tile and windows every couple of years. $350 and well worth it. I "surface clean" them the rest of the time.

Indeed, indeed. My very bad! It's clearly stated that they did the process over several Saturdays.

BEcause, you know, you couldn't have done one house on Friday, one on Saturday, and one the following Monday.

It took me 'til Letgo and sparkles pointed it out to re-realize that these are 19- , 17- and 31-year-old women whose schedules are still so rigidly set and maintained by their mommy that it was a remarkable event to have an hour's window-washing per weekend in the usual scheme of things!

In the past some of us have blue-skyed about what it would be like to free Poor Sarah to experience life as we know it. At this point, it seems plausible that PS wouldn't last 24 hours, without a schedule setting out her expected location and activity hour by hour. For an adult with special needs (delay, traumatic injury effects, emotional fragility) I can see where that would be a comforting thing, providing stability and structure. For grown women with no apparent, life-altering mental or physical conditions? -- almost unimaginable.

It's SNOWING!!!!!!!

Hope it does not get on the windows

Wow; my comment wasn't edited, and even complimented! And right after I went to a family funeral and told my cousin(who's a pastor) all about them. It just happened to come up when he mentioned the next sermon he's preaching is on those verses in Titus 2. He's preparing for a lot of "healthy discussion". And he would NEVER have his daughter, who's now a young teen, be like Sarah. He's all about his kids being who God wants them to be, even if the letting-go is a struggle for him and his wife. We'll see if they, or any of their homeschooling parishioners, end up going to Steinbach.

It's only three hours, they could have done that in a single morning!

I thought it was funny that they are postponing cleaning their own windows until after their trip.

I'm sure she asked Steve for permission, and he probably had to pray upon if before he gave his blessing.

*meh* When the log's in someone else's eye, you never notice the mote in your own.

Or in this case, in their windows .....

Who wants to make book that while they are gone, sweet Melanie and dear Anna MARIE surprise them by cleaning windows on HQ? Who wants to say it's a no-brainer that Steve would never ever ever give a set of keys to anybody outside The Immediate Family (Which Nate & Chris Aren't Anymore) ????
