Speaking of fat shaming

So society is at hating on normal weight people with no boob implants now? She looks healthy and not fat at all (I'd even be careful with pudgy...).

Let me do some interpreting here. I quote: "She looks thick, vulgar, almost pornographic" Aha. So the point here is that it is negative to look "pornographic". I think this gives away the REAL reason why this perfectly healthy woman gets hated on. They know she is SEXY. They know that men probably think dirty things when they see her in lingerie. Because being naturally sexy is not ok. What you're supposed to be is an androgynic caricature of a woman, and then add some fake boobs. She looks vulgar because she eats in front of a camera, and because her whole look radiates sexual energy. I think the whole sentence combines everything that is wrong with the stereotypical image of modern women. Looking sexy, which is the word which sums up the perogative words used by the writer to make it sound terrible, is not what you're supposed to be.

God help us if men realize how much they'd like to have a woman like that and not the supposed scrawny arm candy who can't even eat their salad with a dressing.

And FYI, I'm not skinny-shaming. I am, in fact, one of those scrawny boyish natural women. I just think shaming THAT women for her weight... What the fuck.

Aside from the thin part... My rheumatologist mentioned osteoarthritis, I'm 29, so that's early onset, I guess... And I'm pale and bruise super easily. I have mixed connective tissue disease. But yeah. Anytime folks have to put someone down to make themselves look better just sucks.

No, we are three EDS in this forum ! I have this diseases too ! Wow, I would not have believed that I would find people reaches the SED (as we say it in France) on freejinger.

What the hell is wrong with that blogger?

Mentally, she's screwed up. Although the site hasn't been updated in a long time.

Said classification decided by insurance companies in order to maximize profits and then decreased from even that ridiculous standard, a measure meant for populations and not for individuals to begin with, for no medical or health reason, in 1997. Millions of people went to bed normal weight and woke up "overweight". So no, 2/3 of the US adult population is NOT overweight or obese by any reasonable standard. Weights and heights have both increased some due to better nutrition, but no one's complaining about a height epidemic. If there are more fat people now, and it's impossible to judge due to the ever decreasing standards applied, at least some is due to over-feeding infants (easier to do with bottles), the increased incidence of numerous disorders which cause weight gain (ie hypothryoidism and PCOS) amoung numerous others.

The actual science has shown repeatedly that if you're going just by weight, the "healthiest" weight category is the "overweight" one, although obviously there are healthy people in every weight range.

http://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/adult.html

33% is obese. the other 33 % of the statistic fall into the "overweight" category. Not all people that fall into the overweight and obese category actually belong there (see athletes and bodybuilders), but the BMI index is a general guide for about 90% of the population.

Weight is measured based on a height measurement. And a person's height cannot be changed once it is reached, so using it as a comparison is irrelevant.

Posted

I think BMI is good for the general population, but there will always be exceptions, and you can't tell how healthy someone is just by looking at them.

Posted

Actually, the BMI is an incredibly lousy tool for the general population.

It just happens to be easy and cheap.

This sums it up fairly well (not breaking because, news)

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/stor ... =106268439

http://www.slate.com/articles/health_an ... d_bmi.html

the insistence on using it is bad science and 'lazy' of the establishment when the evidence for things like waist-measurements is so strong.

Posted

No, there are much better ways to accurately determine someone's weight status with other measurements. I agree there. It's hard in some health care settings to get that kind of information. It's also harder for the general population to interpret. BMI is cost effective (LBM measurement machines can be expensive) and is based on weight and height, information easily obtained by the person themselves. I tried to measure myself for a dress once and the lady at the dress shop measured my waist 4 inches smaller than I did. Some patients also "suck in" during waist measurements because they don't want bad results. You can't trick a scale unless you desire to add more weight.

I'm fat but working on it and my husband loves my curves. I'm 5'9" and large framed so if I get below a size 16 I actually look sick. I figure after 18 surgeries, juvinile arthritis, and years of steriods the last thing I should care about is my weight as long as it isn't affecting anything else. I eat healthy, I exercise, and my doctors are happy and so am I (please note it took 30 years and my husband to get me over fat shamming by my mother and various other body issues).

The cheerleader has not fat hanging off her, but she has a pudgy ab. I would not want to have her body. I am not fat-shaming her. Only saying my opinion.

One of the most beautiful woman I ever knew was the late Audrey Hepburn. By today's standards, Miss Hepburn's slender frame would be considered ideal, but society would expect her to get some huge fake boobs to be considered attractive.

I also think Christina Hendricks from "Mad Men" is gorgeous, and she doesn't look a thing like Audrey. Sure, her big boobs are considered to be attractive, but with those big boobs come fuller thighs and a hips, and that's a no-no among today's chattering idiots.

It's ridiculous.

On-topic: I think the cheerleader is adorable. She has a lovely smile, and she looks like she's having loads of fun! So what if her belly isn't perfectly flat?

Grow the fuck up and ignore me.

The cheerleader looks fine and sexy. Fuck me that she looks like a bigger abs than I want on my body.

Women just can't catch a break.

The women I see at the gym with the "perfect" bodies as would be considered by media beauty standards probably work out more like 9-10x a week (the one gal I see on a regular basis does a morning and evening work out, with once or twice a week fitting in a workout during her lunch break). Not that many people have that kind of time to devote to working out. MHO is that the "perfect" body is as much a socio economic status symbol as a beauty symbol. These women that I speak of who work out multiple times a week are generally from a wealthy background or work jobs that aren't necessary to the family's income (ie husband brings home LOTS of bacon). They also have access to personal chefs or can afford nutrition services to help keep their eating clean as well.

You know what if you were my sister I would slap you, and even youre not Im slapping you!

Dont say women cant catch a break! Fuck the magazines pictures. Do what you can for your body, theres no such thing as a perfect body, only its in your mind about your self. Relax, sister. Perfect is in YOUR eyes. I meaning this 100%!!!!

OK, now that I can see her full body... who is calling her fat? She is a size 8 at the MOST. What's more, she's got zero cellulite on her legs or her belly. I wear a smaller size than her and even my upper thighs have some dimple... I think her body is great.

When I saw her full length, I see that shes not tall like the average comon cheerleaders, so I think the ones who wrote the article of her see her as not "lanky" as the taller girls, so they say fat?? Thats the only thing I can understand. Her body type is different that the 99% of cheerleaders I see on tv.

Oh and before some body puts my on a crucifix, theres nothing wrong with her body for her.

Is this a language barrier thing? "Women can't catch a break" means "Women are constantly criticised by society no matter what they do". You want to slap her for saying that?

I'm going with language barrier/cultural difference. It is possible she means "slap" in the way you would say "I'd like to knock some sense into you" only more affectionately. (then again, I am a Pollyanna about people and life and I prefer to think the best of everyone, so I may be totally off here :) ).

The camera is also pretty deceptive. I met Amy Sedaris at my vet's office two weeks because she was bringing her bunny in, and I brought my cat in because of a tail injury.

She looks so much taller in that Downy commercial when IRL, she was at least 6 inches shorter than me. She was also pretty petite and wayyyyyyyyy prettier. She's very pretty without the Jerri Blank getup, but even prettier in person.
