I think Tiffany's plans are to do hair and nails. If she marries Ezra, maybe she can spruce up the women of Centennial City. Most of them could use a major makeover.

ITA about Michael --- in his talking head shot he said he was going to have to 'ask' wifey to go back to work. Instead, while wishing her a happy birthday, he tells her she has to go back to work and repeats this message, at least once during their night out. :angry-banghead:

Saw this on facebook (both the OP and commenter are southern Baptist).

Pretty sure it was the presence of God, not the absence, that influences the people on the show, but okay...

I wasn't sure I should comment on this thread because I have met several people on this show and my husband has done work for them over the years. I feel like a partciapant observer in a way. As much as a disagree with their lifestyle choices, it is hard to separate feeling when one was a nurse that held my hand as my father died, or when I got sick & was unable to go to yard sales (one of my favorite things to do) two women that knew I loved Gymboree & bought all the Gymboree in my daughters size and left it at my doorstep. Then there are opposite feelings like yesterday when I was at my drs office with an infection and my BP was slightly high(ok I had a fever and was in pain what do they think my BP would be) and now the insurance is tracking anyone that has BP over 80 on the bottom. I have a rare heart condition but have been awaiting list to see a local specialist and everytime I get close to an appointment, there are a bunch more polygamists on Medicaid that bump me down (Medicaid gets preference over private insurance).

The other conflicting feeling I have is that unlike some FLDS or even the Duggars, many women go to college or work outside the home. they have gone to college and work in the "real world". For instance many are in the healthcare and have good jobs. They could easily leave if they were unhappy (and a few have, but few compared to the total numbers), they have the education, the job, they understand how the "real world" works but in general I don't sense unhappiness(and they know exactly what a monogamous marriage is like). Some seem to like the idea of a career knowing their kids have a great babysitter/second mother caring for them, I see them thinking they have MORE options then a monogamous wife. they can choose to stay at home, go to school, work and never worry about their kids. They don't have to sleep with their husband every night (some see this as a bonus, that they can have nights off to focus on themselves, or the kids). The CP polygamists I have not seen many seem or say they are unhappy and I have seen a few leave and be fine. In fact 2 CP women live in my neighborhood. One has lived here for 15 years and one just built a very nice home a this summer. They both have good jobs, nice kids that are fully mainstreamed in public schools with many friends and good grades.

Im not trying to paint a pretty picture but I think I would rather live in CP then be a Duggar but I would much rather be neither. Michael is the one person on the show that creeps me out a bit. He seems like he belongs in Colorado city.

My husband has been just called up to help one of the "the" families. He said he would snap a few pictures, not of people but of the city is laid out, the church, the school, maybe to give a better idea how it really is compared to the show's bird's eye view. I'm tempted to go with him tomorrow depending on how I feel. My husband is very easy going, just doing his work and leaves. I'm a question asker without fear, doesn't matter if it is at CP or in SG at a grocery checkout.

In her interview it does look like a wig. Very weird. But at dinner she looked normal (I dislike bangs like hers though)

YES! There are times on her interviews I think she is in disguise but then she looks more normal on her dates with Ezra. She looks much better without the "disguise." I think Beauty School would be more helpful for her than just mentoring under "a friend who does nails."

see them thinking they have MORE options then a monogamous wife. they can choose to stay at home,

At least in the Cawley case one of the wives did NOT get to choose to stay home-- Michael more or less ordered her to look for a job even though she has a young child and wished to be the one wife staying home. And in Becca's case I wonder how much she "enjoys" being the SAHM when there are 5 children to take care of and she is only 22?

By the way did anyone catch that the Cawley family (22 people) do 32 loads of laundry a week? The Duggars (21 people inc. Mary) claim to do 70-- either the Duggars are a hell of lot cleaner or (more probably) a lot less organized.

Speaking of laundry- am I the only one who noticed that each of the wives do their own laundry- and the wife with the most kids/most loads of laundry also has to do the husbands laundry too?! If I was that wife- I'd be telling the wife with the least amount of kids/loads to be taking care of husbands laundry too!

And Arthur just squicks me out! I can't really put my finger on it- but the way he interacts with the "missionaries" just- I don't know, gives me the ickies!!

And wow- way to be a loving husband, telling your wife "Happy birthday, you have to go back to work"- even though you know she wanted to be the one to stay home and the other wife wanted the opportunity to go to work. Could he have chosen a more insensitive way to tell her this!? What a douche!

The wife with the least amount of kids has been working full time and the wife with the most kids is the first wife who does not work outside the home but takes care of all the kids. Seems only fair that she take care of washing hubby's duds since now, both wife 2 and 3 will be working full time.

Yeah that was a sucky birthday. But she can bring in more money because they said she was an actual teacher and the other wife could maybe "get a job as an aide" so really it only makes sense. Sad since they both have new babies.

Of course it wouldn't occur to any of them to stop producing children. That would be a huge savings.

I would also assume since she is the oldest of the wives that she has the most older kids who do their own and possibly siblings laundry.

(I'm only on page 4, forgive me if this has come up in the thread) - I wish we could get a show that also profiled non-Christian poly families. I know of three pagan poly families with multple kids and parents involved, and well, it'd be interesting. Also, could make fundy brains explode, which is always fun.

I would love to see something like that-I would love to see a reality show about a non Christian family, especially if they are the kind of person there are a lot of negative stereotypes about-like if they were Pagan, or Muslim, atheists, or gay.

Im also interested how a non religious poly family would work-we have already seen religious ones (one man with a load of slaves) but a non religious one would be even more interesting.

I predict this match between Ezra and Tiffany ain't going to happen. I don't think poor Miss Tiffany has sat down and given any thought at all to what it'd be like to have to share Ezra with other wives. She was raised in a monogamous culture, and IIRC, she isn't particularly religious in the first place. It might seem like a minor detail right now, but I'm thinking that when it comes right down to having to promise him she will be OK with other wives so that his eternal soul can get its own planet or whatev, she is going to run like mad. He really would do better to marry within the CP community.

I was screaming at the tv over the lack of seatbelt use. It was very clear when the little girl was on her way to her baptism that she was sitting in that van unbelted. And they showed one of the moms and another little girl in the back of the van, again with no seatbelts. What is with these fundies and their complete disregard of the number killer of children in the US??

Or if it happens, it won't last. The girl is 17 years old! She seriously has no idea what she's getting into. She's experiencing puppy love and thinks she can put up with anything to be with Ezra. I was honestly surprised that he intends to live the polygamous lifestyle. I figured we'd see him hightailing it to Salt Lake to live with his sister.

I agree with all of that. Also, she is ONLY 17. When you haven't been indoctrinated into all of this I think it's highly unlikely you're going to be cool with multiple wives, living in Centennial City, even though you say you are now. She promised him at the miniature golf course that she would accept multiple wives, but come on....

I also wonder how she would handle having baby upon baby. I hope she figures things out before marrying and procreating with Ezra makes her stuck in CP.

There was also a poly episode on last season of Lisa Ling's Our America that profiled non-Christians.

After watching this show I became curious about the people of Centennial Park and just how far from their roots at Colorado City/Hildale they are so I did some googling.

What I found is that Centennial Park is 1 mile from Colorado City. They could have walked to see Grandma. Actually Centennial Park is not a town (I think it’s a ranch). Centennial Park Medical Clinic has a Colorado City address. I got the impression from the episode that it was pretty far away. Maybe that was on purpose. They want us to think they are far removed from the lifestyle at Colorado City and they really are not. I’m wondering what the split was really about? I get the feeling it had more to do with control and power on the part of the brethren than we know.

The Masada school they are saving money on by building it themselves is listed as an Arizona Charter school. All I have found so far is that AZ funds charter schools with state money. I also found that the school the woman pointed out in the Colorado city episode with the goats was an AZ public school that went bankrupt after Jeffs pulled all the kids. Yet all of the teachers, administration, and school board kept their jobs and continued to get paid until the school went bankrupt. They were all members of the FLDS. Do states fund religious schools? I ask because I am thinking that the schools at Centennial Park are run by all members of the group at Centennial Park and my guess would be that they are teaching based on their beliefs which are religious. Also if the money came from the state to build the school are they pocketing state funds by building it themselves to save money?

Also when I brought up Colorado City on google maps I saw that there is a branch of Mohave Community College there. I had to find out just who is attending this Community College in Colorado City. On google images if you search “Mohave community college colorado city az†the 10th row down I see a picture of a girl who looks an awful lot like Becca. I wish I could post links, but my rural internet connection is painfully slow.
