I hope Josh goes fundie-lite. If he goes on to have bazillion kids, Mackenzie might just have to give up her jewelry box!

I wouldn't give them too much credit. All the Duggars have changed to be more marketable to the general public. The littlest J'slaves also wear skirts above the knee, with only sheer tights underneath to hide their defrauding knees, not like the long homemade skirts and baggy cotton bloomers that the first set of girls had to wear. They're selling out but they justify it by claiming that they can proselytize more easily if they can blend in with normals.

They are still double shirted, but it's not so in your face. They are adorable kids and I hope they don't get more than a couple more siblings.

Do you think it is like that with Josh and Anna too? I mean they tend to seem quite oblivious. (Not just thinking about all the crap that Josh tends to post on Instagram) I think it is more likely that Anna is thinking "oh that's cute, I'll dress them like that today". I think that in some ways they become more and more fundie-lite, they have after all been very exposed to the outside world.

That is very cute though :)

Those are cute outfits. I would assume the double shirts are because it's not quite warm enough not to have a coat. I layer constantly because I get cold easily.

I don't think the Hello Kitty shirt is double layered, I think it's a one piece tunic, with the skirt and long sleeves attached. I think the leggings come with it as part of a set. One of my nieces has a similar one - just not with the sports team.

Yeah, I wouldn't read much into the Hello Kitty clobber. Hannie and a couple of her sisters have been photographed wearing it. And I completely agree they probably believe it’s better not to stick out like sore thumbs when selling their nutty lifestyle to the general public.

I think all kids are cute so don't shoot me for saying this, but I think Michael and Mac are both pretty ordinary looking children.

If anything Josh has shown that he'll idolize material possessions while preaching whatever pops into his warped head to us lesser people. That kid has had his nose in some sort of Apple device since the 2nd or 3rd Duggar special. Josh and Anna probably think they're making sound financial decisions filling their house with stuff and and closets of cute kid outfits, but as long as it's "buy used and save the difference" it's a-okay!

I think there has been a slow evolution of the Duggar appearances since the first appeared on TV. They used to wear those ugly frumpers, now they have stylish and modest clothing. The girls used to have those ugly hairstyles, and they were uniformly the same. Now, they have a larger variety and more modern hairstyles. It doesn't surprise me that the younger kids are dressed in modern clothing either. I doubt if the Duggars even buy used clothing much anymore. They make enough money to buy Walmart and Target stuff, plus the TV show may even give them help with wardrobe. I'm not going to read too much into little kids wearing Hello Kitty shirts, but it's definitely a step in the nonfrumper direction. I hope this is a signal that Josh and Anna will turn towards fundie-lite too.

Funny to see that little girl wearing a Razorback shirt when she'll never set foot on the campus since she's a girl.

The transformation seems incredibly quick to me. How strange would it be to go from frumpers/bloomers to completely normal clothing in just a few years ?

I wonder if the fame doesn't seem as strange to the older kids as it would most people, because I'm sure they used to stand out just for the odd clothing, before they stood out for being on tv.

They are sooooooooooooooo adorable! Duggar kids always are pretty cute.

I bet the Duggar kids were soooo happy when they were allowed to dress like someone from this century. Surely they were aware of how normal people dressed, from trips out to the supermarket and stuff, and noticed that people are staring at them. I think if I had to dress like that as a teenager, I would have died of embarassment.

So sad!

I think this family would have a better chance of going fundie lite if TLC ends up dropping the show from regular programming. If Smugger and Anna feel the need to keep popping out babies to compete with J'chelle and Jim Boob and keep the show going on, there's little chance of them reevaluating their lifestyle and goals.

The best thing to ever happen to the J'slaves might well be the show. Without it they would still be in their frumpers and bad perms, and not one of those kids would have a cell phone, let alone a smart phone! They would have never been to all the places they have been, or exposed to other ideas and lifestyles. They'd all still be as sheltered as they were before, and there would be far less money to go around, especially with every birth from Jackson, on!

Do I LIKE the show? It's a love/hate thing, hence my name; MorbidAwe. Do I wish they would cancel it? Yes, for the sake of the kids. Now that they have had some exposure to the outside world, they are a least slightly better equipped to make better decisions and leave the fold, if that's what they choose.

I think it's pretty easy for children to jump styles. The clothing styles of young girls to teenage girls can vary greatly and we see that transformation in a matter of years. When I came first to this country from China, I dressed very differently. It didn't take that long to change wardrobe (it helped I was growing so fast my mother had to get me new clothes anyway!). I didn't find it strange or jarring.

The Duggar girls were probably exposed to new, modest clothing with their TV shows and photoshoots and interviews. I can totally imagine them taking a liking to what was offered and bringing that style home. A few years is a pretty long time to change young girl's wardrobe, especially for kids entering their teen years. I can imagine the Duggar girls dropping their frumpers as the years wore on, liking the variety offered in stores and on the show.

Now be fair. None of the boys will be allowed to attend college either.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I agree, the Duggars have changed for marketability reasons and they know a good portion of their fan base are mainstream Christians. They know they have to "fit in" with the crowds at the megachurches they speak at. They still don't completely "fit in" with the mainstream Christian crowds. The Duggars still admit to believing that women should only wear skirts and they don't keep with certain aspects of popular culture or even aspects of mainstream Christian culture. The Duggars would have hard time blending in at a mainstream/fundie lite Christian conference like Passion and I can't see them at a Christian rock festival.

That is true. Boob and Mullet have pushed their anti-college attitudes over the years. I do hope Josh and Anna will change and allow their children to have the option of college. Maybe Anna will wise up about that unaccredited Christian college that she attended. I think overall, the whole Duggar family will be in for a rude awakening later on when Boob finally realizes that he can't set up all of the boys in businesses.

I think a lot of it is money. It's quite easy to look "modern" when you don't have to make your own dresses and cut your sister's hair. With money came skirts instead of dresses, shirts purchased at goodwill. With more money came trips to stylists and malls... The "sewing room" is now a closet cuz they don't sew no more!

I think Josh and Anna's kids will be better educated than their aunts and uncles. We've seen Anna reading to them and Josh must have realized how his SOTDRT education limited his career choices. I'd be surprised if he could prepare an effective resume without help. I wouldn't be surprised if some of their sons were allowed to attend ultraconservative colleges towards careers in politics or business management.
