Kidist, spoiling for a fight?

Kidist is taking comments on her new blog, wall of logorrhea. Surprisingly, she's letting some criticism slip through. One from yesterday - possibly an FJ-er?:

I'm not sure which is worse, this blog's content, or it's visual design. Reclaiming beauty, right.

I think she moved out of Toronto and to the suburbs. Maybe there aren't enough offensive immigrants, Asian-White couples, Muslims, or gays to keep her rage at a steady simmer, so she's courting fuel for her fire?

If she moved to the 'burbs she'd have to go pretty far for a sparkling white neighbourhood (does she mention moving anywhere in that mess?)

Also see she's got a speech by Larry Auster posted.

Where have all the intelligent men gone? I would hazard a guess that they took one look at her ravings and ran far away, very quickly.

Kidist's answer would be that the ebil Asian women ensnared them with their wiles, I bet.

I wonder whether, if Kidist and Michelle Malkin met, they would scorn each other for not being white? (Michelle Malkin is a US ultra right wing pundit who is anti-diversity to the point of white supremacism; her parents emigrated from the Phillipines and are ethnically Filipino).

I have to admit, every time I go to Fran's I look for Kidist :? Anyone got a pic of her? We get such few opportunities for fundie-watching here.

As for the comments opening...this is what we call a golden opportunity, my friends.

Dear Kidist, I have a very intelligent man. Sorry, he likes a feminist with a mind of her own. ;p

I've looked around Eaton centre a half dozen times and haven't seen her. Then again, I have always wondered how she could afford downtown on a shopgirl's salary. Maybe the Asian-filled burbs are just conveniently cheaper?

Oy, Kidist. She's such a mess, it's almost a shame to shoot the fish in this particular barrel.

But the movie buff in me would like to make a few points.

I also admire all three of the actors she mentions, and in those roles. And the warmth of intelligence (or a twinkle of humor) in a man's eyes moves me greatly. But her examples are way off, and their appeal has nothing to do with leading or taming women.

Astaire and Rogers built their fame on two things - their amazing dancing and their banter. The dancing could take the form of romantic numbers in which they magnetically interact, and which could look like he was leading her.

But, of course, most viewers know that she was working as hard as he was, and some of us know that Hermes Pan had as much to do with which way they were going as Fred did! :D In any case, a kind of equality, a look of being perfectly matched and neither partner being the one that drew your eye, was a big part of their appeal.

And, of course, in numbers like this, from Top Hat, the movie Kidist mentions, nobody leads - it's more like a conversation or competition:

dl6FLfHTC68

As for the banter, it was pure smart-ass. Either Fred and Ginger were the second leads (even at the height of their success they did this in several films), the sarcastic snarky pair, or she was rejecting him quite firmly and with some crushing take-downs. Sometimes both! Her characters were generally smart, tough and sexy, and were never led, tamed or conquered by his.

On to Greg and Jean. If I remember The Big Country correctly, her character is very strong, a woman who owns a bit of land, with some much-needed water, that two nasty men on either end of the social spectrum want, and who is struggling to do what is right. Not only does he not "tame" her, he's the only one who takes her seriously, and possibly the only man for miles without "must prove my manliness" issues.

His character is not, as Kidist claims, courting hers -- he is engaged to another young woman who turns out to be flighty and selfish, He becomes friends with Simmons' character, falling in love with her in spite of himself. At no point does she become his wife, a ranch-frau, or anything remotely resembling "tamed."

He doesn't even tame a wild horse - just faces his own fears by riding a difficult horse from the ranch.

What's even funnier is that the particular picture Kidist posted is from a scene in which he is treating her like a fellow . . . well, fellow! They are competing for who has the grossest story of something gory they have seen! Her story gets so horrifying that we are not even allowed to hear it -- the music takes over! Here it is:

That movie, BTW, also contains one of the best anti-macho fight scenes ever, between Peck's character and Charlton Heston's. Rather than a dramatic, exciting fight, it's a slow, clumsy, dirty, dragged-out mess, which neither man wins.

A basic theme of the film is trying to stand up for oneself without going looking for violence and fights, in fact. It's actually a pretty good choice for the appeal of the intelligent man, but Kidist seems to have missed the point.

And Columbo dismissing his wife? Hardly. It's a long time since I've seen an episode, but it always struck me he was just incorporating his wife's requests, and stories about her, into his "I'm so harmless and annoying that you'll let your guard down" act. For all we knew, she was a Harvard professor!

At some point, she described her neighbourhood and make it pretty obvious that she lived in the apartment building at the corner of Jarvis and Gerrard.

Actually, Mrs. Columbo had her own series. IIRC, the series ran for one or two years, and she was played by Kate Mulgrew (Commander Janeway in "Star Trek Voyager"). If someone thinks I'm wrong, please feel free to correct me.

The suburbs are at least as, if not more, multicultural than Toronto. She would have to move to Timmins or South Porcupine before she started hitting lily white areas.

Your right, and I knew that. But, in the original series, I don't think we ever learned anything substantial about her. I could be wrong.

I almost added something about that series, but my post was already riding the teal deer. :D

You might be surprised. My husband drives downtown to work every day - so we're close enough for that to be do-able, but the town where we live is populated by human Aspirins.

If you scan Kidist's original blog as well as her current Reclaiming Beauty crap, you'll find she lives in Mississauga now, where she is besieged by the sight of Moooslims and other objectionables. She does, however, enjoy her local Irish pub, where she hangs out and writes articles about beauty while sipping a Harp lager and marveling at the decor.

Kidist is a wreck but I can't stop rubbernecking. I thought of FJ when I read a couple of the comments on her blog...

also, hello :)

Bumping to report that Kidist is getting a run for her money:

Anonymous April 8, 2013 at 4:54 PM

The most irritating thing about you, Kidist, is that you act as if your opinion is objective fact. Even your strangest fantasies are portrayed as eternal, immutable truths. That kind of extreme arrogance would be tolerable if you were as knowledgeable as you pretend to be. If you keep slipping up and revealing your ignorance, people are going to pick you up on your mistakes. It's your own fault.

But never fear, she has a devoted leghumper who reassures Kidist that

"these personages of low refinement merely advertise to the world their own lack of dignity."

If she's moved to Mississauga maybe she got transferred to a different store (assuming she was actually still employed), otherwise why would she subject herself too all that multiculturalism?

I couldn't help it but lit into hitting home the fact that Larry her hero was nothing but an abhorrent asshole, her stalking her neighbors and being escorted out of the ballet school by security, and other incidents proves she's a total loony. I also threw in the fact that she will never be white, her name is as foreign as they come, and the white race doesn't want her. In fact she makes white people laugh with her self hate being a minority herself. Let's see if this makes it through, but if not at least she sees it and knows people think she's total troll that needs to go back under her bridge.

Hmm, that explains a lot. I wondered how she could afford the downtown core, but that's actually a pretty low-income, low-rent area because of the social services providers around there. (I also lived on Jarvis for a while, so no judgment from my end)

Well, imagine if she suddenly didn't have anyone to hate on. What would she do with herself then?
