Parents put gay 16 year old daughter up for adoption

Satire or not. I bet you any hypothetical gay 16 year old would be adopted super quick. In a way I wish any child who would be rejected by their family for their sexual identity had the opportunity to be loved and accepted in this way.

In Florida, gays cannot adopt children, but they can become foster parents. One of my childhood friends became a foster parent to a gay teenager who had been repeatedly beaten and ridiculed by his parents. The young man is now in his mid twenties and my friend is in the process of adopting him.

I just don't understand how parents can do this. I know, I know, it happens, but how can parents like this live with themselves? How can they go on for years without contact, without knowing or caring how their own flesh and blood is doing? Ugh.

I don't get it either. My friend is awesome. He and his partner have been together for years and are very happy, productive citizens. They are great people.

His brother and one of his sisters have been in and out of jail, have a number of children they don't see or support, and have been on or are currently on various drugs. They still get invited to Christmas dinner.

It boggles the mind, really.

I don't think the blogger will mind the link from FJ at all but I disabled it just in case. It is not uncommon for parents to throw away teens. They just don't put them up for adoption. They throw them out, they leave them somewhere and they turn them over to foster-care. They rarely go to the effort of placing teens for adoption, though it can be done.

There was a girl in Texas (I think) not long ago whose principal suspended her for missing too much school and it came out she was working four jobs AND pulling As in school while homeless because she came home one day and her parents had simply left with her younger siblings and left no forwarding address for her.

Doggie - 1st the link from Pravda, and now this?

Please do us a favor and do 2 sec. of research on a source if a story seems particularly fishy. There are plenty of genuine stories that deserve our outrage - we don't need to waste energy on fake stuff.

I could not tell on my iphone I was pissed when I read it and in bed. I used the fark app to view it and I emailed myself the url and never went too it.

Exactly. Once, I saw a bumper sticker that said, "If the fetus you save turns out to be gay, would you still fight for its rights?" My belief is that if there were a way to determine sexual orientation during pregnancy, those who are anti abortion now might change their views.

Except that those people will never believe that being gay isn't a choice. They don't think it's possible that a fetus could be inherently gay.

Exactly. These people believe that homosexuality is a "lifestyle choice" or (if they are truly whacked) a form of demonic possession. There are some who consider homosexuality a mental illness requiring reparative therapy. But even then, they don't treat it as a condition that the child was born with. These so-called Christian therapists usually blame Dad for not having a healthy relationship with his son or for letting his daughter do "boy things."

Actually, kids in the foster care system are more likely to get kicked out for being gay. There are some organizations hoping to place these kids with parents who will accept them. But, it's a sad reality that most areas do not have such resources and many of these children are shuffled from home to home because people dont want to have to "deal" with "such children" when "they dont have to."

Tyson travels the country giving lectures to students ranging from middle school to college about the dangers of homosexuality and liberals.

Loved this bit.

This is one of my big pet peeves - folks who don't bother to actually read and think critically before spamming everyone they know. It comes across as the liberal equivalent of "OMG here's proof that Obama is an ebil Muslim socialist born in Kenya - pass it on!".

Just read the topic title - do they have any takers? Because my TSU and I would love to have another young'un, the house is too empty with all the juniors now gone.

And we're Christian, though evidently of a different sect than her folks, never matter. Now I'll go back and read about her, but yes, send her here. We've got two unused bedrooms and the high school's within walking distance and well-rated. Welcome, sweety!

ETA: It was a satire! I'm so disappointed. I'd even have gone to SC to pick her up - we could've spent a couple days on one of the islands off Charleston!

Spend some time in the south, or for that matter any smaller rural area, especially if it's highly religious. They absolutely believe it. It's somewhat terrifying and very, very sad.

Things like this are why I'm hesitant and afraid to live in the bible belt like I just can't wrap my mind around a lot of the homophobia and racism that people are almost proud to be open about in the south. Not stereotyping all Southerners, but traveling through the south makes me uneasy as a woman of color and being bisexual. I would hate to be in the wrong place at the wrong time with some homophobics or racists who wouldn't put it past them to assault me physically or verbally. There is something wrong there if people are still having segregated proms in 2013 like they can't and won't move out of life after the 1960's.
