Yes, because apparently a woman asking for respect from her students after beginning her transition deserves her story to be publicized by one of the most loathsome journalists ever, Richard Littlejohn. Sending a load of prayers to the family and a big 'fuck you' to Richard Littlejohn.

I'm American, but have been under the impression that the Daily Fail is about as reputable as The National Enquirer or The Star. Fuck Littlejohn. Bashing people who are transgender is unconscionable. I'm sure Miss Meadow's students were perfectly fine with their teacher's change. Kids are resiliant and far less judgmental than adults.

As bad as the Enquirer and Star are here in the US, I think the Fail is worse. I don't know, I have nothing concrete to back up my opinion (except maybe this latest horror story), but it just seems to me like they're in a class by themselves when it comes to things like this. :?

I think it was in the comments of the article reporting her death that said that the Fail removed the article from existence to make it seem like they had nothing to do with it.

I think a problem with the DM is that it is a heinous wolf in very fluffy sheep's clothing. It isn't quite "full of lies, misinformation and bullshit". If it were it wouldn't be so popular. It also has a lot of celebrity reporting, tv guides, sport, weather, holiday guides etc, and has a very readable Saturday and Sunday supplement, often with exclusive inteviews on new TV Programmes, and full cover recipe supplements from Delia Smith, Jamie Oliver etc. It fills a gap between the intellectually impoverished left-wing Daily Mirror, and the more high brow Guardian etc. There isn't a liberal/left wing equivalent to appeal to people in that gap and so it has an appeal to people like my parents who don't buy into the bullshit wholesale, but who are nontheless very susceptible to the evil whisper in their ear as they think they are reading 'the news'. It drives me apoplectic with rage at times because it does what it does so well. :evil:

Unfortunately there are proportionally a lot more Mail readers than Tea Party supporters. That vile rag has always been good at what it does; it was the first newspaper to sell over one million copies in a day as early as 1901 and has an estimated circulation of over 2 million these days. That's more than 3% of the population who actually buy the paper version. add to that the fact that is gets roughly 45m individual hits on its website per month, 43.5% of mobile traffic in the UK and is the number one online newspaper world wide and the problem becomes far, far bigger.

Parents of friends read it. Educated, kind, loving people. And they believe what it says.

There used to be a website through which you could link Mail articles without giving them traffic, because "friends don't link friends to the Daily Mail". DM had that taken down swiftly.

That's horrible :( my prayers go out to that family. Whether or not you believe someone is right, surely at least basic human decency would call for us to be respectful?
