I see such differenced between the two clans - yet such similarities too.

Confusing. Seems like they are little cults of their own. Yes even the southern raised.

It's sort of like cherry picking what they want to follow - "yes yes we can hug men" "yes we can take pictures with men not related to us" "yes we can fellowship with non family members" "we must be modest" "we must wear skirts"

anybody else on my wavelength?

Well, I get the feeling that the Reiths are not totally hard-core fundie given their love of jazzy bluegrass music, plus they will play at secular venues and conservative but non-fundy churches. They are very musically talented and if you ever listen to them on youtube, they are a pleasure to listen to compared to the likes of the Duggars, whose caterwauling masks as singing and then there are those awful screeching violins. Both families live in the same general area (Ozarks) so not surprised that they know each other and consider each other good friends, but I can't help but think that it's simple goodwill on part of the Reiths to participate in a joint concert though. Duggars are not in the same league.

Sure, the girls wear skirts but their outfits really remind me of what country music stars wore in the '80s.

The Reiths are far more talented (and successful) musically than the Duggars.

If it's a goodwill gesture on anyone's part I think it's the Duggars. Their music is appalling, but they have name recognition that the Reiths don't and will pack the pews.

Quite true that the Duggars have the name recognition and will likely increase the attendance. It's just that I see the Reith family as fairly low-key folk, who are content to have their traveling bluegrass band and the success they have with it. They probably don't really need the Duggars to promote themselves but who knows. Since the families are long-term friends, it struck me more as a nice thing to do, because even to the Reith's highly trained musical ears, the Duggars' singing and playing must have the effect of hearing nails on a blackboard.
