I'd never heard that before. My understanding is that having a parent with schizophrenia increases the kid's risk. Regardless of if it was mom or dad.

That's what our genetic counsellor told us (that genetically schizophrenia is passed maternally). He also said that that is partly why schizophrenia and mental illness in general was often said to be the result of bad mothering in the past - because the mothers of schizophrenics often had undiagnosed and untreated mental illness themselves.
