Trust Fund = Duggar?

I read an article on Honey Boo Boo who has established a trust fund for her childern from the TLC $$$$. Does anyone know if Jim Bob has done the same? It would be nice for his children to have money prior to leaving the nest.

I doubt it, I think he sees the children as his property and any income they bring in would therefore be his. In fact I believe what Honey Boo Boo's mum is doing is quite unusual. I've seen it remarked upon as such. I don't think Jon and Kate did anything similar?

While I think June is often misguided in some areas, she is a good person and is definitely doing a great thing for her children in this. You would be an absolute fool not to- YOUR KIDS ARE THE REASON FOR THE MONEY and to most normal people this would be a no-brainer. I wonder who gets individually paid per season/episode/whatever.... Jimboob? Do Smuggar & Anna & Grandma each get separate checks? I bet everyone under the headship has their money all funneled into jim-bob land. :x

I think JB has money put away for the kids for specific uses. I'm sure he has used TLC funds to help Josh, JD and Joseph with starting up their businesses. I bet he would help a child in getting a house IF they were buying one close by, marrying an approved mate, and living the lifestyle fully.

JimBob has said that he has bought his over 18 daughters cars because they do not have businesses like the boys.

JimBob will never hand over the money freely to any of those kids but he also wants to the world to see how well his forumla (courtship, debt free, homeschool, no college) works and he will use TLC money to make it seem like any of his kids that follow this path look sucessful independently.

As for June, I question her motives a bit (I think she likes her welfare queen coupon status). I also would like to see what she is doing to help the kids towards college? if they now all have money for it? Does June have a GED? Maybe she could go back to school(it would make something TLC could film) or visit colleges with the girls. I know my family would take sunday drives by local colleges campus and find some fun place to eat. Im just scared the handing the boo family girls large sums of money at 21 will not turn out well.

According to every story I've seen on the trust fund issue the five girls get their money at 21 or earlier in the case of a medical emergency or school. Which seems fair enough to me and a pretty good incentive for the girls to go into higher education if they desired.

Frankly I'm sad to say that I'm just impressed that she see's it as their money, since we know parents of other 'child stars' seem to have trouble with that idea.

It's easy to snark on Mama June, but honestly, she's one of the smartest women in reality TV. She realizes that the money isn't going to last forever, so she's setting most of it aside for a better future for her girls than she had for herself. They're a really loving family, and I'm choosing to believe that most of the trashiness is just hamming it up for the cameras :D . I doubt JB has set up a trust fund for his children, although maybe he has one for the boys so that they can start their businesses. Hopefully I'm wrong, but I think that once his daughters get married, they'll be under their husband, so any financial burdens are the husband's responsibility. It'll be interesting to see the difference in support once a J'slave marries as opposed to one of the boys.

I agree with that. I can see Jim Bob having trouble years from now, if he tries to set up the younger boys in businesses.

It has been speculated that they make between $20,000 to $40,000 per episode. There were a couple of posters here who work in the entertainment industry or have connections. One of them said that based on the Duggars' ratings, they seemed in the 40 k range.

I'm pretty sure that if a godly Gothard approved young man asked for one of the Duggar girls in marriage JimBob would help set them up with a home and a business - as long as both were close to the TTH.

I actually think that JimBob wants his daughters to marry and continue with the birthing warriors for The Lord thing, but he also wants them to be materially comfortable, and a SOTDRT and Alert! graduate isn't generally going to be able to do that debt free, especially without taking a job. So he'll give them a home as a wedding present and give the headship a business to run, like Josh with the carlot, and just like the car lot he'll ensure that the asset is actually owned by the Duggar family trust.

Boob has 8 more sons after Josh and John and 9 daughters. No way are they all going to be all set up by him. A, it would be too expensive for his cheap ass and B, Money = control to him. He's not going to make it easy for his kids to prosper on their own because he runs the risk of them eventually deciding to run their own lives on their own terms. Personally, I suspect Josh resents his father because he's still beholden to him for so much, yet he's too dim and lazy to do anything about it. And Jim Bob is probably just fine with Josh's lack of ambition because he doesn't trust Josh as far as he can throw him. Boob is going to try to hang on to those purse strings for as long as he’s around.

I can see him trying to set the girls up with men who have stellar Gothard credentials and excellent earning potential. But there's probably a shortage of them for starters and his little darlings aren't in frumpers anymore. How appealing can these opinionated - to the point of being almost worldly - reality show girls be to a good Gothard catch? Catch meet 22.

I remain convinced that Boob can only hold things together until around the time the twin boys come of age at which point the wheels will start to come off the bus. Money, and resentment about how it's spent, will be the undoing of his little kingdom.

For the life of me I wish I could remember which episode has Michelle and Boob giggling talking about their "leave and cleave" philosphy after smugly got married. I call BULLSHIT.

Shortly after the wedding the credits on the show changed to give "thanks" to smuggle's family as well so I would assume that Boob allowed him a separate contract. I doubt highly that any of the slaves are paid individually. The Duggars are a "band". You dont hire each instrumentalist individually, you hire the band to perform. How the lead singer (or manager) divides up the till is their own problem.

Boob can marry a few of the girls off so he wont have to set them up, but the boys are either going to have to get an actual job, work for eachother, or fail miserably. If any of them get their own show, I want it to be Josiah.

I can see JimBob setting the boys down to Josiah up with businesses then expecting them to employ their younger brothers, which will lead to intense resentment down the road.

One of the twins says he wants to be a cameraman, and TLC would probably set him up with an internship if JimBob would allow it.

The Duggars have a "living trust" I think. All their property and whatnot is owned by the trust. I'm not sure what that means for the kids' futures, though...JB&M will most likely be in control until they kick it.

I have a vague recollection from either one of the specials, the show, or the book that they bought the property on which the TTH is so that there would be enough acerage for the kids to build houses there if they wanted.

Legally speaking, once they reach majority they can sign their own contracts. And they have to be paid separately.

Yes he did take flying lessons but you need to go to flight school or the military to get good training. Jill wanted to be a nurse but ended up taking a Gothard-approved midwife class. Josiah wants to be an accountant and Jed wants to be a videographer and I'm damn sure they will end up working for their brothers. Shame on Boob for squashing his kids dreams.

Have you read Gothard's approved medical course? It makes you think that medical school is of the devil. Whoa. :shock:

I believe that's the plan for Josiah. Michelle has said Josiah does not like physical labor at all and is taking College Minus accounting courses. He's clearly not going to wind up at PricewaterhouseCoopers with that education. I hope he has an interest and an aptitude for that sort of work and it’s not just Boob saying, “Fine, you don’t want get your hands dirty? You can do the books then.†Michelle has also said he is very artistic and while I'm sure there are some creative types who also enjoy bookkeeping, I don't normally associate the two together.

Presumably Joseph will continue to work with John.

How they'll manage careers for the howlers is anyone's guess.
