Thank the 'Whinergod' she has stopped trying to be political because that was just torture to watch. Also no whining and happy with the laundry this time!

She's really good at the whole house thing and really should stick to that  That is a really beautiful home.

Warm and fuzzy until...........

Unfortunately, as I was finishing this post, we got a call from our agent telling us that another offer is coming in on the house. That, of course, means a bidding war :/ And it probably means spending more than we want, but we will hope for the best! Prayers appreciated :)

I suppose this time it is better than putting an offer on a house in another state based on a job your husband has not got. Or on that very same basis selling your own newly re-furbed and pooled up house to rent. I am totally not complaining the whining was epic.

I do though wish her luck, buying and selling is a pain even if you have Real Estate Tourette Syndrome as she appears to have 'GOT TO HAVE IT!'

US people. How does a bidding war work?

A bidding war may or may not be a big deal. It means that more than one person is willing to meet the asking price, so the next stage is, if the potential buyers are willing, is to up the ante and go higher than asking price. This becomes relatively self limiting, because there is usually a limit to what people are willing and are able to spend on a house AND because if you go much higher, there are other houses at that higher price that are likely nicer than what you had been shown.

What i found interesting was this sentence.

""He will be giving notice to his current employer this week, and is planning to start with the new company in the next couple of weeks. "" Real smart to post that your husband is leaving his job before he gives notice. (I haven't been reading this blog, but unless his boss was ditching him, her blogging about his job search was pretty poor form and could have cost him his existing job.

I love house porn. Love the built-in bunk beds, the porch/sunroom and the laundry room.

Never noticed that. They seem to make very loose decisions based on this type of thing quite frequently.

ETA The legalities for contract law here is very different and heavily controlled. So does this bidding just go on and on like an auction? Here if there are more than one interested party a closing date is set and the highest offer would be presented to the vendor. The moment an offer is accepted, that is it, even if in the interim a higher offer is made. In Scotland anyway. It is different elsewhere in the UK.

I've never read this blog before and I've always wondered who Whiner Lady was. I'll have to look at the blog further, but..... I LOVE THAT HOUSE!

I like that house, but I can guarantee that whiner lady will be complaining before too long. After all, it isn't "grand looking", no cathedral ceilings, no hearth room, no formal dining room, and limited (by her standards) storage space in the kitchen.

*flails wildly* Oh, my GOD, I want this house. That built-in in the dining room is the perfect place for all my vintage Pyrex. And the laundry room, I'd almost kill for that.

The thought of what Whiner Lady will do to this place makes me ill.

You can make your offer more appealing to the seller without upping your price. If you can be flexible on the closing date, or if you don't need a contingency for the sale of your current house, or if you're stupid enough to forgo various inspections, your total package might end up looking better than the others.

House-porn at its best - a truly drool-worthy house. Can I copy-paste the built-ins in the dining area and put them in my hypothetical dining area, when I finally get one? (just have room for a smallish table in the kitchen, no dinner parties chez the Clouds).

However, what's with this "we need room to roam"? I can't wrap my brain around the concept of being completely car-bound. As gorgeous as the house is, it's isolated. The kids can't walk anywhere on their own. Friends can't drop by when they're biking to the corner store. You can't pop in to the dollar store or the grocery store or Canadian Tire when you're cooking/doing projects around the house and need tomato paste/drill bits/a greeting card right there and then. I realize everyone is different and that I'm a city girl down to the core and seven generations back, but it's very restrictive to have one form of transportation to rely on, which requires enough money for maintenance/gas and good health for driving, rather than having a choice of train, bus, biking and walking in addition to driving a car, depending on the weather and circumstances.

Loveday, you will have to pry my vintage Pyrex out of my cold dead hands. I inherited some from DH's late grandma, other stuff comes from thrift stores and is my absolute favourite.

In my hypothetical dream house, the stairs are *not* the first thing you see when you come through the front door. I have this setup in my current house. It makes smaller entrances, like mine, very cramped, and it's a huge space-waster in larger entrances. I would have absolutely loved the layout of this house.

However: t'is not good to have a door straight through the work area of the kitchen. You want to keep your main work area as interference-free as possible. I don't care for the basin sink. They look gorgeous but are uncomfortable to use and clean. Screened porch is fantastic, and thank goodness there's a pool - poor lady had to give up her, the horrorz. The game room, oh my lord, that game room. And the built-in bunks. That's it, I'll never think about buying anything like that as the cloudlets would never leave.

Does anybody know how this family can afford this spread? It seems pretty atypical for a fundie family to be this affluent.

Not sure Fundie would fit the bill. Whiner lady is in a class of her own really. You would need to read her blog to get a sense I suppose. Anybody got a decent title for her?

I think her parents are very affluent and help out some. Can't really make a comment on that ...Mine are the same wether I want it or not.

This! Especially given that they're home schooled. It makes those who can't drive (the younger ones) so isolated- they're completely reliant on family to get them places.

There are LOTS of bidding wars on houses where I live. The highest bid doesn't always win, like you say, you can sweeten the pot by giving up inspections or contingencies or other things. Around here it can drive prices 50, 60, 70K over asking price. Things aren't as bad as they were 5 or 6 years ago, but the market is starting to come back a bit.

I like the house but I find it odd that she would post pictures before they even have the house - especially with a bidding war. When we were looking for a new home a few years ago we only showed family pictures once the deal was done. It all seems a bit premature to me.

I don't know about this house. I personally love it and would move in yesterday, but it seems a bit small for Whiner Lady. From what I've seen of her other houses, this one lacks the grandness that she normally craves. If she does buy it, she'll be complaining about it in no time. Plus, wasn't she complaining about having too few bedrooms in her current house? The new house just has 5 bedrooms.

Not sure about what brand of Fundie, but I think she has stated some Tea Party leanings, along with the gay's caused Hurricane Sandy, her NRA love of course not to be over shadowed by her 'Bible tells her so' love, etc. She's nuts.

I want the house though, minus the upkeep .

I love the house. I like the built in bunks although I think it will be hard to make the beds. It seems small for her family, doesn't it say only 3 bedrooms? Or maybe it was 3 bedrooms upstairs. How many kids live at home?

I just got into this lady after another thread about her earlier in the week. For those that also just started reading her, my understanding is she has 8 children, most of whom still live at home. She's not exactly fundie like some of the other families we've seen, more like fundie-lite in practice. Make no mistake, her politics are very fundie. However, she pushes her kids to attend college, they read stuff like Narnia and Harry Potter and the girls wear pants.

Her family's affluence is probably because they are not the anti-college, isolationist fundies and so hubby still works for corporate America. According to her website, her husband is VP of physician relations of some hospital, but given his recent job changes, I'm not sure if he still does that. It sounds (and looks like) hubby has had jobs in various executive positions.

I'm in the minority here but I don't like her potentially new house. It's too "country" for me and the location sucks as it appears too far away from the city. I'm a city gal but don't mind the 'burbs. However, if I can't see another concrete building outside my window, I start feeling lonely. :~)

The Whiner Lady have lived in beautiful homes. I liked her last home where they installed the swimming pool and it has a nice, upper middle class suburban feel. I actually don't mind her decorating style, although we part ways on some of her ideas (roosters?!).

The Whiner Lady is more like your typical Tea Partier with a "I got mine, sucks to be you" attitude draped in patriotism and God. Despite her family's affluence, I have to wonder why they made such dumb financial moves like selling their house and planning a move to another state before having a definitive offer on the table. I also don't know why they were so quick to start looking for another home while her husband was still interviewing. I guess she has a lot of confidence in her husband's ability to job hop.

They got the house.

It's OK, IMO. Kind of blah. Too much beige and white, but that's changeable. I agree, though, seems kind of small compared to the mini mansions they've been suffering through.
