Some theists want the right to be open with their faith and have no one complain. Fair enough, but some don't want to extend the same rights to nonbelievers.

Quote
A banner that was recently hung in a public space by a local atheist group in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania got chopped down this week by a young man who cited the massacre in Newtown, Connecticut as his reason.

Local news channel WNEP-TV filmed the man, who identified himself as Joe McDonald, climbing 30 feet up to where the banner was hung, cutting it down, and replacing it with an American flag.

“I just think in the light of the elementary school massacre in Connecticut, that we shouldn’t be divided as a country over petty stuff like is there a God or isn’t there a God,†McDonald reportedly said. “If they wanted to put the sign down here with us, that’s fine because we’re united. But to put it above everybody? No, it’s symbolic.â€

The banner was placed in a public space where other groups have erected holiday displays like a Nativity and a Menorah. The Freedom From Religion Foundation paid the city $50 to hang the banner for one week.

I just love that its the Atheists, Jews, and Liberals (depending on who you ask, one could also include "the government", Israel, and some other random groups) that "caused" the massacre. But, guns, Guns are so not to blame for the ability of one man to mow down dozens of human beings.

I want to go to sleep and wake up only when sanity and logic are in the majority.

Didn't you know that free speech is only to be bestowed upon Christians with a right-wing POV?

If it's so petty, then why does he care?

This is not unheard of when atheists put out banners and erect billboards. There have been ultra-Orthodox Jews in NY, Muslims in Michigan, and Christians in a few places who have torn down atheist banners and messages in "their" areas. Apparently only the free speech of atheists is not protected by the Constitution.

Yup, this stuff is common.
