Not really. He just doesn't buy Young Earth Creationism. There's much more to the creationism vs. evolution debate than believing in science and believing the earth (and rest of the universe) can't be any older than 6,000 because some people counted backwards from the genealogies and lifespans given in the Old Testament. Most people who are creationist but not YEC believe that Genesis is a more or less accurate account of the creation of the world, but the process took what seemed to us to be a long time but was in fact still 6 days for God.
