Spiritualizing Movies = Kool Aid with Poison...

I think I've seen a few Ludy snarks in my time as a lurker, but I don't remember seeing this blog entry of Leslie Ludy's ever popping up. :)

"Many of us have seen pastors or Christian authors rely upon movies (rather than God’s Word) to illustrate his or her point. Because Hollywood can so poignantly and artistically capture human angst and emotion, it is all too easy to “spiritualize†movies, blending ungodly messages in with our pursuit of Godly Truth. But God’s Truth will not be discovered through profane images, no matter how profound Hollywood’s messages might seem."

And...

"Remember that cult leader who gave his followers Kool Aid to drink, and they all died? Kool Aid by itself is harmless enough. It’s a sweet, refreshing beverage that can be safely enjoyed even by kids. But when Kool Aid is mixed with poison, it changes from a harmless beverage into a deadly toxin. In the same way, when Truth is mingled with the poisonous ideas of Hollywood, it brings about death, not life.

Paul writes,

For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? (2 Cor 6:14-15)

Pretending that God showcases His Truth or His nature through ungodly channels is just a clever excuse for participating in worldly allurements. Scripture makes it very clear that our Holy King is not found amidst worldly glitz or man-made fame. He does not share His glory with men or idols. Christ makes it clear that we cannot love both Him and the things that charm and ravish this world. We cannot be dazzled by the images of pop-culture and captivated by the King of all kings."

Really? If someone uses a story that is in a movie or somesuch for illustration purposes they are "pretending" that it is truth? And it will bring death? Hyperbole much?

The whole thing is worth a read - but only for snarking purposes. I don't know how anyone could take it seriously...

The best part is that the Ludys are CONSTANTLY using worldly stories and allegories in their teachings - most of them end up being terrible.

Oh the Ludys. Snarkalicious. Good catch. You're right that they are constantly referencing pop culture, sometimes modern and sometimes vintage.

They advertise their brainwashing training center as being "a cross between Lord of the Rings and Jane Austen". I remember one article in Set Apart Girl where she asked young men to describe the christian women they admire the most, and one chose "Leslie Ludy because she is the perfect combination of Audrey Hepburn and [some christian missionary lady]".

Because it's not Jim Jones-like or anything to in encourage your young followers to fawn all over you.

Planning on scheduling my ankle surgery around Trump's Georgia trial - if I'm forced to be off my feet, I might as well be entertained.

And yes, the Church actually has a blessing for beer.
      Amen.

      Stupid loneliness!
Kid 1 went back to college (yeah! But sad foe me, she stayed with me all summer. It was nice to start a new phase in our mother/daughter relationship)
Zero prospects on dates. (Not that I have tried online dating, scared of that but I have reached put to a new group at church, etc.
I asked a friend to go to dinner the other night so I wasn't eating alone, again. The friend had plans, all my friends always have plans. I see stuff on social media, I'm never invited. I'm single, I'm the 3rd or 5th wheel.
My one parent friend at kid 2's fall sport won't be there because their daughter made varsity (Yeah for her!!! Seriously happy for her. Sad for me for another sport I basically sit alone, did that majority of spring and summer sporting events.)
And now I'm crying as my mom told me 2 different funny stores that former teachers remembered about my twin. Both stories were about how they got a crack out of my twin's antics (my parents went to a funeral today and saw former colleagues). Teachers remember me (after all I was a twin and teachers' kid) but none would have memorable stories of me.
      I feel invisible.
Don't worry, this will pass,  it always does. I just need a pity party for a few days. I'm not in anyway going to harm myself. As lonely as I am, I have a very full life I (usually) love. I just needed to vent and cry for a moment.
If you are still reading this, thanks Fjer. 😊

Absolutely awful about the fires on Maui. In 2019, I stayed in Lahaina. I liked to sit on the sea wall, which is the only structure left now, and watch the water. People are receiving help, but many had to leave pets. Please donate to the Maui Humane Society, which is leading efforts to find, treat, and reunite pets.

Nebraska’s new football coach, who is involved in an organization called Man Up Ministries, labels certain players “Alphas” and sometimes “extreme Alphas” and the local paper has a nice piece on why people objecting to the term “alpha male” are wrong and it has a “nice ring”. 🤮🤮🤮🤮
