Bateses start a church

I don't know wether this has been posted already (couldn't find anything), but in their latest blog post the Bateseseseses write that they started their own church with Gil as the pastor. They haven't good a church building yet and instead meet in a conference room in a hotel.

I wonder if this means that they are going to leave their tree cutting service behind and rely now totally on Lawson's income. If thats true, their horses won't be the only ones starving :shock:

Are they going Maxwell? I always perceived them to be people people, you know? Hmm. You may be right, DD.

Also. Maybe their church got sick of their TV shenanigans...

Ugh.

So is it that easy, for real? You can just claim you're going to start a church and you get a tax write-off?

You just fill out papers is all you need to do.

the world does not need more uneducated self appointed extremest fundy mouthpieces. it is all ego driven and not for taxes. I mean they could not declare their house they would have to have a church to declare.

I agree!! Why or why did they have to start a church?? Did stuff start at their old church that make them realize they have to control their worship as well as everything else. I think that is how the Maxwell's started their church. Their old one was getting to secular for them for Steve-o started his own so he could controle how his kids worship as well as everything else they do!

Yet another thing they used to say they wouldn't do, but are doing anyway. They are identifying their church as IFB. This weekend, my BIL's new girlfriend was talking about how she was raised IFB. She attended a school run by the church. At one point, they punished children who touched the opposite sex--she got demerits for tapping a boy on the shoulder to ask him to retrieve a fallen pencil. She ended up getting a scholarship to a state university. Once she got there, she had repeated panic attacks whenever she encountered anything different from what she was taught. She panicked when the orientation leaders announced that condom machines had been installed in the bathrooms. She panicked when guys on her floor were passed out drunk in the hallways. She panicked when her Catholic roommate hung a rosary over a desk. She ended up dropping out before Welcome Week was over. Today, she is agnostic, has a masters degree, and is dating a Jew.

Maybe Gil is going to give the tree service to the a few of the older boys to run and Gil will need a new source of income. Plus can Gil do trees till he is 70? It does seem like part is hard labor and he will have to work till at least 70 if they are still trying for #20. Does Gil have to pay into SS for retirement being self employed? would he have enough quarters of work from his nabsico days to get a monthly check and medicare.

One of my oldest friend's husband left a great career to be a pastor last year. His salary is 1/5 of what it used to be but my friend is surviving on the free casseroles, hand me down clothes, free medical advice from a NP who is a member and used her fireplace a whole lot last winter. I can see Gil loving these type of benefits of being the pastor, all the freebies the adoring members will give him.

I really admire your BILs GF! It's so hard to get over the crap and religious abuse (there would have to be some kind of abuse to induce panic attacks because their are condom machines!), she must be a strong woman.

I think it is because they can't find a church that fits their brand of crazy.

I'm all for cake! Can we have an online church? No building necessary?

I'm ordained also (yes, internet church). About the forms, is it the simple registering as a non-profit?
