Peter Lucas Moses, Jr., 27, of the Black Hebrew’s cult, surprised many in Durham County Criminal Superior Court when he admitted to killing four-year-old Jadon Higganbothan and 28-year-old Antoinette McKoy.

 

Moses also agreed to testify against his co-defendents, one of whom, Vania Sisk, was Jadon’s mother. She moved to Teller County after allegedly killing McKoy. By pleading guilty, Moses avoided the death penalty, The Durham Herald-Sun reported .

 

Sisk had previously lived in Colorado Springs, where Jadon was born in 2006.

 

North Carolina investigators believe that Moses shot and killed Jadon in October 2010 because he thought the boy was gay

This is so tragic! I really hope the authorities get the bottom of this and find the bodies. I also hope that this tragedy will help dissuade anyone else from getting sucked into the cult.

I first heard of the Black Hebrews in a comic novel I read about 40 years ago. Heaven Help Us! was about the difficulties that a single rabbi has in his first congregation. He gets wind of this nearby Jewish family that doesn't belong to his congregation or any congregation that he knows of. He goes to visit the family only to be greeted at the door by a black woman who explains they're not Jews, but Hebrews.
