Holly Biffle, child abuser and homophobe (Updated: Hoax)

Regretsy* posted a Facebook scan of a lady who said [link=http://www.regretsy.com/2012/09/16/holley-biffle/]"My hand and his butt"[/link] will be sore after she caught her son walking home with "The gay kid across the street."

At first they were thinking Poe, but turns out she's a real person, and there's a Facebook group with more than 200 people defending her.

I'm stunned.

*Regretsy seems to downplay the mom's threat of violence or at least think she should be let off the hook so she "doesn't become a martyr." I know that is not the opinion of many FJers and I'm not endorsing that view, just posting a link to where the screencaps are collected.

UPDATE: Regretsy says this is a hoax:

I apologize for inadvertantly smearing Biffle's name. I do not retract my statements about Regretsy's comments, though.

What an asshole! (Holy Biffle) But why is this person not acting like the real problem was her abusing her child? And how is a group called "Proud Homophobe and Child Abuser" in support of her? It sounds like maybe people went there to support her against the people who made the group.

Of course Holy Biffle shouldn't be pummelled for pete's sake. But this person didn't make the case at ALL - ignoring the child abuse and saying she has a right to be a bigot. Neither means she deserves physical harm to come to her but man I hope someone makes a better case than that.

Yeah, usually I love Regretsy for calling bullshit when they see it, but I don't get this. I don't get the "Child abuse shouldn't be prosecuted in cases where it might be controversial" conclusion.

This is one of those threads that makes me so sad it hurts.

I know, she seems absolutely proud to spank.

Um, yeah. Say what you will about the homophobia (in this context, I mean the general "you," not you, Glass Cowcatcher; and, what I would say about that kind of homophobia is unequivocally that Holley Biffle is douche nozzle that probably shouldn't be allowed to talk to children with that kind of irrationality streaming out of her), but when someone straight up announces, "I will beat my child until he is in pain all night long," um, yeah, SOMEONE SHOULD CALL CPS regardless of her bugnutty reasoning. And whoever was the friend who commented "Yeah! Tough love!" ... I think they should promptly go fuck themselves and refrain from reproducing as well.

And the reason why. I hope her son isn't gay/bi, for his sake.

Me too. After what's happened to him for just associating with a gay kid, if he was gay/bi I think he'd know that it's not safe to do anything but hide it. But people like her don't deserve any kind of child. I hope her son gets as far away from her as humanly possible.

I like Regretsy, but I don't like the discussion going on under that topic.

I think Helen Killer and the rest are just flat out wrong. Beating a kid IS CHILD ABUSE.

And beating a kid just because he walks his gay friend home...I have no fucking WORDS.

ETA: I was pleased to see they were posting on the weekends as it's usually reruns, but now I'm wishing we had got reruns.

There's NO proof in the posts that the kid is actually gay, or the mother just perceives him to be effeminate.

They are usually so good on charity and social issues, but I really am beyond frustrated with this one. They have totally pansied out. I'm surprised/disappointed how many of the comments take her side.

Basically Helen Killer is saying, "Child abuse is OK if the abuser shouts loud enough on the internet to cause a controversy.

Imagine if she said that a rapist shouldn't be prosecuted, because he might be made a martyr. Or a racist. Or a bigot.

What a bitch. I can't believe people are defending her for it. I'm a spanking mom but the "offense" is just NONsense.

D:

You mean you're a hitting mom, right? You hit your kid when you think the "offense" deserves it. This lady is no different. She hits her kid too...she just has different reasons than you. Both of you are violent. Stop hitting your kid. There is no "offense" that gives a grown ass adult the right to hit a kid.

Ps. Can I just go ahead and take a wild guess that your child has an issue w/ running out in the road or touching hot stoves and that you KNOW they wouldn't be here today if it weren't for you hitting them *sigh*

I'm not exactly too happy with Hellen Killer right now. Holley Biffle disgusts me. There is something sinister about parents who are proud about hitting their kids.

There are so many things wrong with this fb post I don't even know where to start. A few things right off the top of my head so shocked it's spinning...

1. How does this Holly person even know the kid across the street is actually gay? Maybe he just doesn't like football, or WWF, or Nascar, or whatever else Holly deems as something all red-blooded American men like.

2. Most of these homophobes believe being gay is a choice, so where is her 'love the sinner hate the sin attitude?' Why does she have to beat her child for being nice to 'one of god's children?'

I'd like to place a bet on "I was hit as a child and it never did me any harm!" Or possibly something about the alternative to spanking being not doing anything to correct your child at all.

Caito, read a parenting book. One that doesn't have Michael or Debi Pearl's name or the word "Babywise" on the cover, and doesn't endorse spanking. Figure out how the rest of us do it without hitting.

Now, that said, WTF Regretsy. I loved it over there but I completely agree the ball was dropped and someone over there really needs to pick it up.

As to #1. I think it's actually worse for her child that Holly doesn't know if the kid is gay or has much of a reason. Because then her kid has to worry about the "appearance" of being gay. So not only does it really suck of her child is gay, it also sucks if he likes dance or art or something his mother doesn't deem manly enough. He will have to play the role of the red-blooded American manly man, whatever that may mean, or he'll have to worry about being beaten some more by his mother.

As to #2 maybe she thinks it will lead to her son liking less manly things? Either way, Holly doesn't deserve to have children, and she shouldn't be anywhere near any child of any kind. She appears to have such a narrow definition of what's acceptable, and it must be hard for a kid to fit into that box.

I definitely agree with you about it being terrible that her son will have to avoid the appearance of being gay. That may be why she beat her son for walking with a possibly gay child. She doesn't deserve her son who seems to have empathy for a boy who is different, whether it be because he is gay or perhaps just likes poetry. I am sad that rather than being proud of her son for this, she is going to try to beat it out of him.

She's also discouraging him from expressing any kind of solidarity with kids who are at risk of being bullied. I think kids' instincts for justice and fairness ought to be celebrated, not beaten out of them.
