The caption to this wedding rehesrsal photo reads: Lauren’s father leads her to her gazer

perseverofilms.com/2010/06/the-wedding-of-tim-lauren/

What an odd way for a fundie, Nathaniel Darnell, to label a photo. Have we dicussed this wedding yet? Bradrick and Doug Philips are in it.

Just want to chime in to say that when I first read the link I was reading it as "perverse films.com...."

Was curious which fundy was branching out into porn.

I love this quote, right off the top:

Tim is now the second of the Vision Forum Intern Class of ’03 to enter into what we call “normativity,â€

Which implies that people who are not married, even if they are merely too young, are not "normal" without actually saying that unmarried people are not normal.

Except that "normativity" isn't a word according to M-W.com. They're making this crap up to manipulate people.

It's Dougie's word. Whether he made it up himself or not, I don't know, but he has definitely called marriage "normativity."

I find it interesting that Nathaniel, who must be 30 and is still unmarried, refers to marriage as "normativity" without even a hint of irony.

Yeah--Dougie is one of that group of fundies that says marriage should be a "normative" relationship. From what I can gather, it means it's something that forms you into the kind of adult you should become. Instead of, like, being a fully-formed adult BEFORE you do something as important as getting married. They take the concept of "learning to grow together" to an odd new level.

I can see the photos, but the certificate is expired, which is probably some people can't see them.

Could you explain this a little more? Often I see "Image" rather than a picture on FJ. Is it something I need to fix in my browser? Thank you!

Normative = forming you into an adult? I get the concept, but that's not what normative means. I think they mean "formative". SOTDRT fail.

Doug Phillips is a tool.

Someone with more technological knowledge can explain it better, but it has something to do with the hosting site, I think. It's not you, it's the site the photos were linked from. I get a pop-up that allows me to either accept or reject the expired certificate. If I accept, the pictures show up. If I reject, I get nothing.

Can't see the photos. I work off Firefox/Ubuntu, so it may be that.

I know the term "normative relations" But not "normativity". That's incorrect.

Dougie and his mates are pseudo intellectuals. They think they're smarter than they are.

I think Dougie et al are conflating the concepts of "normative" and "formative." Normative as in "something that makes you into what WE consider the right kind of person" added to the growing-up thing. He obviously thinks that the more Big, Important-Sounding Words he slings around, the more impressed his leg-humpers will be. Sorry, Dougie--I am a Smart Person, and I'm nowhere near impressed.

I had always assumed that "normative"/"normativity" was VF-code for traditional marriage - i.e., not same-sex unions.

I think that "gazer" is some kind of term for people courting one another. They'd like to be close and to know the other person, but the best they can do is to stare at them. They'll be getting married with only information supplied by gazing in the other person's direction for a few months.

If you put the terms "Wedding of Tim and Lauren" into the search bar at the top of the page, it will lead you to the updated post with pictures.

When I put in the keywords, W'edding of Tim and Lauren" in the search bar, I discovered that a lot of Tims married a lot of Laurens. I coudnl't find the particular couple that I we are discussing. If you have a link, could you post it?

I think grazer is a term that the Vision Forum people just made up. On the perservo site, there are two photos of the couple staring at one another. Both photos mention gazing.
