Just a disclaimer on the above post. I do not think what the Browns do is criminal or that people living in polygamous relationships should face jail or anything of the sort. I am for decriminalization. I just don't see how legalization helps women trapped in groups like the FLDS and other extreme religious groups. They are still going to be uneducated, sold to the highest bidder, and thought of only in terms of how many children they can have.

Legalizing polygamous marriage is also not the same as legalizing gay marriage. In gay marriage, you are simply replacing the terms "huband" and "wife" with "partner A" and "partner B" from a contract perspective. All other parts of the contract and how each party relates to the other remain the same.
